Hey all, I got back earlier from a very cold day of boarding Eagle Rock Mountain. I departed the OC at 5:30 AM and it was 31 degrees. The ride was going well and I was able to hold a pretty good speed since the roads were empty. That changed when I came blasting out of the Lehigh Tunnel at 7:30 onto a snow covered road with Blizzard like conditions, it was 14 degrees and I slowed it down for the remainder of the trip. I arrived at Eagle Rock at 8:15 bought a ticket and booted up at the Summit Lodge and then drove down to the Base and parked there, where it was 7 degrees. The mountain has a vert of 550 ft. and consists of 12 trails, but combined forms 6 top to bottom runs. 2 of them, one green on the left side and one green, to blue, to black combo on the right side are both a mile long. They have two side-by-side double chairs that run straight up the center and all of the trails empty out to them at the base. Down the middle they have 3 black trails with a very nice head wall, steeper than anything at BB, but not as steep as the East Mt. at JF. The terrain can be best described as a mixture of a BB and a JF, parks not included. The snow was very hard cord that was not softening do to the lack of sun and skier traffic. I did not stand in one line, never shared a chair and never had anyone closer than 6 chairs in front or back of me. After 16 runs I was getting cold and decided to call it a day. I am fairly certain that next year my family will have season passes there, as I think it is a great place to teach young children the basics with out worrying about them getting plowed over. The base lodge is very nice and parking is available less than 20 ft from it and 100 ft from the lifts making it perfect for unloading a family and all of their stuff. On the way home I busted up a chicken sandwich, cheeseburger, fries and a coke from McDonalds.

Don't scare everyone...

Thanks Ski...when I'm ready I'll certainly take you up on your offer.

Thanks, how is it on the groomers.

If you can't get rid of it I'll give you $200 for it.

If I could snap my fingers and be living and working in the Poconos I would. But at our age, number of years teaching and running a business it would be almost impossible to make it financially. I will buy a weekend home there in the near future and will also sell my business shortly after that. Being just a teacher is like being semi-retired, so I will be able to spend plenty of time in the Poconos.

Ski, I like your old school approach to coaching and parenting. All of the decent parents I have met in my 10 years as an educator have very similar values. Keep up the good work!

Theres been years where Shawnee and CB had to shut down there lots on Sat., and Sun. of MLK weekend.
-
When your stuffing envelopes...are they sales flyers for tombstones?
-
It will be the only place with no lines on a holiday weekend...years ago we spent MLK and Presidents day there, even though we had season passes to BB, JF and CB. Groups of 4 pay only $15 per person for an all day pass.
-
Give it a try on one of the holiday weekends. As long as they have good coverage I think you will be surprised at how good it is.

How about sick time? You are probably emotionally sick after the whole splitting of the pants incident.
-
Have you been by Eagle Rock this year or heard anything about their conditions?

Treadmill Tester.

Are you west of Lake Harmony?

JF is one of the easier places to get to. 476 is always clear and in my experience 940 is also maintained well. Go for it. If I didn't take off Friday I would be heading up.

Ocean City and Mainland are OK...your kids would go to Middle. Not so great.
-
So Ridge is done with skiing? Or just racing? Maybe you should hire a teacher to homeschool your kids while they are on ski trips...

I agree, the high speed would be better if it was more centrally located. Hey Method, where do you go to school? -
Greek Peak

On a weekend the east mt. gets skied off too fast regardless of the type of lift. I think it would benefit everyone who gets out during the week. You could get twice as many runs in. -
Why? How about Ridge? Is he still racing?

Why no Blue today?
