Presidents’ Day 2/20/23…pretty good

Ugg “Little Gap” flashback. I can remember driving through 9” of snow to get my skis out of the instructors shack to ski elsewhere because they closed early that year. I have to believe they’re looking at cold in the forecast and a couple storm signals coming up . Hopefully the base hangs in till then. -

Thanks Planning on last day festivities for sure. Hopefully the weather gets cold soon if not I have a bad feeling about spring or the lack of it. I forget which year but similar to this weather we had a really cold April and May. I have some outside work to get ready for flying season and want to get it done before the good weather kicks in. Last week of April to the first week of May is usually prime time.

Sounds good, been pre occupied with a sick family member. I was waiting for a quality day at Blue. Planning on some mid week days once it’s cold enough for some snow making weather. I’m old and value quality vs quantity . I’ve done my time on ice coast trails.

Don’t forget the $40 for parking savings 🙃

55° @ 5:55 Am 😢

Arrived 8:15 47° and cloudy. Started on Delaware and worked our way from left to right. Everything was groomed and skiing nicely. Lackawanna was the only trail with bumps and they were pretty nice. Hit it a bunch. Went in for Beer and food and when we came back out someone turned up the thermostat. 57° . We skied the Pine tree shadows as much as possible but coming of Wissahickon to sunny Snowbowl was like jamming on the brakes. One last run on Lackawanna was a workout, all the slough piled up in the troughs and stopped my momentum. Nice day all in all.

Be sure to hit “ Juggernaut “ the gnarliest trail ever.

Tonight I found a way to lap Sasquatch , carry speed and arc around the last light pole ( check for traffic off E lift) get some air across lower Brown Bear and go between two pine trees. Ends up above the carpet on Teddy Bear , they blew a crossover under E lift that makes it easy to get to Sun Bear back to F lift. I got my laps down to 8 minutes gate to gate. Nice night , one run on Grizzly bumps. I worked on setting a small bump line on lower part of Sasquatch and lapped it all night. 6:45 close

No , A and B do . Getting to Sasquatch and Grizzly takes a bit of uphill to get to . Getting back to F lift from Sasquatch is not easy either without using A or B then using F again. Kind of a pain as F unloads on a knoll .

Fun Friday Screaming Pizza 3:45 lot filling up… B lift backed up headed to F lift… Ski on till 5:45 Tonights little savages , 3 middle school girls screaming hysterically coming down Grizzly and turned under the lift, at first I thought they were out of control but they were doing fine just having a blast. Grizzly bumps and some on Sasquatch were soft and fun . Timberline had a sea of Oak leaves.

Wow that’s awesome! Beginning can be frustrating and the next day sore muscles. You certainly must have been in good shape. I took an Uncle out for the first time when he was in his 50’s . He really liked it but unfortunately had a serious illness a year later and quit.

I did as well ,first time was in 1970 . Oooff feeling old but my philosophy towards skiing is “I can’t drive 55 “ I counted 12 busses this afternoon. I passed on this evening.

I’ve heard a bit about White Lightning being the steepest slope in Pa. But I think Sasquatch upper section is as short as it is. -
Last day at Blue ....Chinese Downhill ......?

LOL .Thanks for the cameo I'm in the second gate from right . Yeah it was nuts for a week night , Drexel kids and Basket weaving night .

I thought the crowd with ease as the night went along, but it seems to have gotten busier. I had enough I’ll be back tomorrow afternoon anyways. Fun night.

Lapping bumps on grizzly, had had plans of setting some slush bumps but things are pretty firm. Down Samsquanch once
-
Pretty packed tonight, I decided to make a few runs back from being down with the flu . Much faster than I expected but nice.
-
James Bond before James Bond? Sick day find ,this channel is awesome !
-
The liftees on the F chair like to blast music so I think it keeps some folks away LOL. Ran back up around 4:30 and was disappointed that Samsquanch bumps got a haircut . I wish I would have gone over sooner last night, my Son was having fun in the park so we hung over there .

The Bear is Back! Last minute night session, Nice Vanilla Sorbet a little slow at first but sped up as the night went on. A stellar effort to come back from the nasty warm stretch. A few Whales were left alone to play on. Grizzly was probably 8’ high and upper section bumped up nicely. I waited too long to get over to Samsquanch so for my last run had to tuck and skate up. The Patrollers were just starting to close up but they let me past so my efforts didn’t go to waste. I haven’t skied Bear Creek that often but I don’t think I have ever seen bumlps build up on the steep section like I have tonight. Air after every turn it was awesome. Big hand on the effort to rebuild!
