  1. BB seems to have much less crowds on weekend mornings that JF. Freedom may have some big'ish hits in it but it's still a beginner park. All the boxes and rails are level with the lips. The flat rail and two flat boxes setup now are PERFECT for learning shit. The down rail and down box are good for learning how to hit urban type jibs (coming from the side).
  2. Boulder is real sick, without a doubt. But I honestly don't think it dominates over everything else. The jump line is probably the only thing they have that's worth it there (just barely, once Blue gets theirs dialed in thats 5 jumps in a line compared to 3), Freedom, LOVE, and The Plaza seriously aren't THAT great. Blue is just as good, and I can have just as much fun riding it with the high speed lifts and mile+ park run. I don't feel like traversing all flat sections to get to jumps from jibs, then take the three hit run to a slow lift back up. This is probably going to turn into a 6 page Boulder vs. Blue thread. So let me just save all the typing with this simple list: Boulder Pros: Sick hits, circle coping jibs, big jump line, wide lips, media exposure. Basically an all park mountain. Boulder Cons: Short runs, slow lifts, too flat, no easy access from Freedom to Boulder, shitty lot. Blue Pros: Long runs, 2 high speed lifts, 5 jump line, top to bottom park run (Sidewinder to LS to Lower Terrain), 2 lodges, no holes in parking lot, weekly events (Sunday School), freeride program. Blue Cons: Gapers in the park, more crowds overall, circus jibs, last hit is kinda crappy. All in all ski wherever the fuck you want. At the end of the day we should all be happy, because skiing should make you happy.

    CBK edit...

Do they even have decent hits in their park pass park? I mean if they're going to have park passes you'd think they would have a decent park.
  4. I think they should space the rails out a wee bit more up top. You can still hit them in a line like they are now, but there's no room for error or to get more speed if you land low, fakie, etc. Other than that I think the park flows very nice, but it flows like 3 separate parks. Top to bottom flow is theoretically possible if it was empty enough. If I hit the rails up top to the jumpline and then the last hit, I know I'd get cut off or plow down at least 2 people. They should be putting in a rail or to after the last hit as well, so that should open up some more options.

  6. I can definitely see it happening at Boulder, those chairs crush your legs if you don't lean forward enough.
  7. The right side of the jump line is way too close together. I need to speed check before hitting the second jump if I want to get speed for the last two. The left side is where its at though, once you get your speed dialed in for the first jump you'll be set for the rest except the last one. Everybody seemed to have speed issues on it.
  8. It's not the instructors cutting the lines, it the people in their lesson. Keep in mind they paid more than the average skier for the lesson and lift ticket and they don't have an unlimited time frame to work with. I wouldn't want to spend any lesson, program, or any type of time restricted activity in the lift line.
  9. Quick set epoxy works well. All you need to do is seal it off so no water can get into the core. I have a few decent size hacks on my topsheet and they ski fine, moisture is the only thing you need to worry about.
  10. Depends on how my toe is feeling. I didn't case anything today but for some reason my left toe is black and kills. We'll see in the morning.
  11. I mean theoretically you could hit it and then flow into the jump line if it was built properly. The takeoff is extremely mellow for a hip, if you hit it you would be shot out, you need to be shot up for that thing to not kill you.
  12. I'm sorry, but you either must be a sarcastic motherfucking playing a joke on us, or one serious arrogant blind-to-issues son of a bitch that should not be representing the McDonalds in Allentown yet alone Blue Mountain. It frightens me to know that you are making administrative decisions, being a Blue passholder. Let me explain something to you: Sidewinder is what we like to call an EXPERT TERRAIN PARK. I believe stated in BIG BOLD FUCKING LETTERS, on the warning sign at the beginning of the trail, FREESTYLE SKILLS REQUIRED, along with a bunch of other precautionary statements regarding the unsafeness of the trail and the fact that you MUST be an expert to ski it. If you are unsure of this, I shall be happy to take a picture for you. The stairs were NOT designed for crowd control, although that's what they serve as. They were designed to DISCOURAGE blatently unskilled skiers/riders from entering the park. Having beginner lessons run through the park completely voids the precautions listed on the sign. I don't have too much of a problem of racers going through Sidewinder, but they still need to obey park etiqutte: 1. STAY AWAY from the jump line if you do not plan on hitting the jumps or leaving the area in a timely manner. 2. DO NOT use rail lips as jumps. 3. DO NOT sit, stop, gather, or otherwise block the landing of ANY feature, especially jumps. 4. DO NOT follow ANYONE in the jump line, give them a 2-3 jump lead as a minimum. Cheers! If you have any questions just ask!
  13. Snowing like a bitch here in Philly. Waiting another two hours or so then I'm setting up a rail outback.
  14. I'll be at BB Saturday.
  15. Headed up to Blue from 4-6:45. Woke up at 1, I overslept. After an hour of sitting on the couch I decided to hit up Blue for a PM session. It was super warm the whole night. I didn't even need a jacket. Right before I left it started to get a little cold but that was it. Snow was real soft when I got there. After the sun went down it was a mix of sandy snow with ice patches. I was skiing Come Around to Main Street to Lower Terrain. Sometimes I would hit crazy mile to Sidewinder. Hits weren't too bad. Landings were just getting real dug out early on. I seen Park Crue out at least 4 times fixing stuff, which I thought was real good. Sidewinder seems to be ready to go pretty soon, all the jumps are almost built, and the rails at the top are set in. The rail setup looks really really sick. The first hit is the long ass circle coping box that was originally at the bottom. Hopefully I wont oversleep tonight...
  16. I overslept, again. I might head up now though for a few hours.
  17. Boots should be the most expensive thing you buy. If your feet are uncomfortable you wont be able to do anything, period.
  18. The rain and warm weather might cause some unpredictable snowpack in the CB backcountry. I don't blame them.
  19. http://www.newschoolers.com/web/content/vi...id/895/id/3429/ No entries yet, but I just noticed this today on NS.
  20. Nice! Just don't speed check and flip a little smoother, maybe grab. The scary part is over now. Backflip mutes are the shit.
  21. You can get wide brakes for the PX12 Jibs. Not sure if they'll fit.
  22. They took out the flat box in the Plaza? Ahhhhhh

    Goggles worth it?

I can't imagine skiing without goggles. Sometimes at night I flip mine up but I like to have them there anyway. I can't ski during the day without them though, especially when it's sunny. Hurts my eyes too much.
  24. I was pretty impressed with how fast the parks shot up. The jump was a lot better than I expected it to be. I hiked a bit up on Saturday night towards the snowmaking piles for my drop in. The lip is decent and poppy, but the landing is a bit too short and steep for the takeoff. I was landing pretty low, and it was all ice so my confidence level wasn't super high on that. Not to mention a crowd started to form near the landing waiting to hit the flat box, and the trees kind of freaked me out so thats when I called it quits. The mini pipe was fun as shit. It's better for hip airs though. I just pumped through it and hit the hip to the right. Lower terrain is really nice. The flat down is perfect for disasters. I mean if you even approach it with a little speed you'll disaster it. The butter box was pretty simple as butter boxes go, and the rainbow needs a gap on. As for sidewinder, I'm not really feeling the flat box lip setup. I just don't like it for some reason. And the staircase is pure sketch. Looks too short and has too little of an urban lip for me to hit it.

    boots and skis

I'd go for Dynastar Troubled skis, in 158. I know someone thats about your size and age that just got them, and really likes them. I seen them myself and they're solid solid skis as far as kids skis go. You seem to be on the cusp of kids and adult skis. You seem to be a bit too light and short this year for adults, but next year you should be able to make the transition. http://www.backcountry.com/store/DYN0163/c...-Skis-Kids.html
