Whew, what a day! Snow cam showed about 4” overnight but it felt at least double that. Visibility was low so I headed down to East River and Dan went up to Paradise. We met up later and decided to do a few laps on the easy groomers off umbrella bar (although still lots of fresh there too). Snow was much lighter today and easier to navigate. At one point it was dumping so hard you could barely see. Then 20 min later the sun came out for a bit. Now back to cloudy and light snow. Supposed to snow all evening again. No action shots but the few pics I took. Dan still out skiing.

Skied once a year on bunny hills growing up. Started boarding early 30’s because my son thought it would be fun if we both learned how together.

Was just saying to Dan yesterday I am so happy I don’t snowboard anymore 😈

I can’t remember the last time I skied powder. First run I was all over the place and fell once. By run #2 I was sort of finding a rhythm, but going slow. After the 4th powder run my legs were feeling it and I didn’t want Dan to have to wait for me anymore so we split up. The snow got easier the more it tracked out but by then my legs were tired. Didn’t want to be all used up on day 1.

Stellar day today! They even opened the lifts a bit early which was awesome! First run top of Silver Queen down to East River. Snow felt really good. Then several off east river than we did 2 more from Silver Queen back to the base. Umbrella Bar for lunch then did some mellow runs from that side. Left around 1:30 and lines were getting busy (for CB). Natalie I’m the bumps this outfit did not look comfortable Umbrella bar looking forward to a stretchy yoga class in a few hours so I am ready for tomorrow.

A girl doesn’t usually get excited about 4”, but since we haven’t had snow here in over 30 days it was very nice! The usual non existent crowds here on a weekday, got in line for the Silver Queen at 8:47 and was 3rd chair. They groomed Paradise Bowl, which I was surprised. No matter, the few fresh inches were a welcome change from the usual hard pack conditions. Few runs off Paradise then headed to East River. Good conditions down there too. Forgot to post this gem from the other day More snow on the way next week!

https://www.skimag.com/news/vail-resorts-record-ski-passes-overcrowding/?utm_source=ski+magazine&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=8db3dd42-0f9f-412a-90e9-f910517a3fde https://unofficialnetworks.com/2022/02/14/aspen-announces-surprise-raise/ I can’t find the Arapahoe Basin article right now but that one outlines how they lowered the number of season passes sold to preserve the skier experience. The current Vail business model is not sustainable. I read how they eliminated a lot of on mountain managerial positions and centralized it to corporate HQ in Broomfield. So they are applying a one size fits all model to snowmaking, terrain opening etc. I feel if Vail insists on paying slave wages that are a joke for mountain towns, they need to provide some sort of employee housing or stipend.

Boulder county finally announced the end of mask mandates this Friday. So glad that when I get home this will be over.

Did a tour up Snodgrass this morning. Shedding layers early on and at 5 degrees in the sun it felt very warm. went about 1.5 miles up, realizing the snow was complete shit, we turned around. It was total boiler plate ice. Made me realize how good the mountain is doing with what they have. Overall a gorgeous morning, the sky couldn’t get any bluer. My goal today was to get some cardio in and mission accomplished.

Loveland is great, I had a pass there our first season here. With all the multi mountain pass issues of crowding etc I think people are realizing what a gem the independent places like Loveland are. There has long been talk of people wishing for a Loveland/ Abasin pass. Glad you had a good trip.

Pictures don’t even do the area justice. Another gorgeous sunny day here. Snowshoed part way up to Snodgrass. this girl was kicking ass, went up that head wall like it was nothing. It is much steeper than it looks.

There was about 6 weeks starting in May we were maskless here. Denver and surrounding counties just dropped the masks last week. Boulder county still holding on for dear life.

Good day today. First heading to the bus stop this morning my neighbor stopped and gave me a ride and close in parking with her fancy country club status. Got 3rd chair in an empty morning. Weather about 3 degrees but the sun was out and it felt good. First run down Silver Queen and tried to head down to East River but trail to access was roped off. Liftee on the Teo said there was a mechanical hold. So up Teo lift then onto Paradise. Some good non committal bumps on the sides (my favorite kind). Did a few runs of those. Then some easy trees back to the base and up Silver Queen again. Ended the morning w some more mellow trees and took the 11 am bus home. Took my ski boots off and took the pooch for a nice long walk. CB is dog paradise! Lots of places you can just let them off leash. Walked into town for a chai and my coffee place just let go of the mask mandate. Dumb as it sounds, felt good to walk in maskless and see peoples smiles. Walked the length of town just since it was such a nice sunny day.

Jealous of that fresh snow! Looks amazing. Zero snow in the 10 day forecast here.

Forgot to mention it felt like skiing the east coast, hard pack ice. We really need some fresh snow

Good day today. Had some friends drive down last night and another one her way tonight. Was the typical frigid morning so we waited until 10 to go. Light crowds and no lift lines. struggled on this run, note my very bad form.

Did some uphill this morning w my neighbor at the resort. She has to be home in time to get her kids ready for school so we had to leave at 5am. Weather forecast was 2 degrees but it was actually -16 She belongs to the country club so she has a locker there. Very convenient if you have kids. Was nice booting up inside. She usually gets to the top of the second lift (Paradise) but we only made it to the top of Red Lady when she had to turn around. We took 2 cars so I could continue but I was pretty tired so I turned around too. Will admit it was a bit scary skiing in the dark with nothing but a headlamp so I just took it slow. I will definitely be getting back out there on my own but plan on a 6:30 arrival so I am skiing down in daylight. I set my Garmin to skiing but it only tracked the downhill

Another glorious morning here in CB! Got in line at 8:47 and was there first person. A few of us gathered waiting to be scanned. Then some guy riding a skateboard thing (don’t know what they are called) blows by everyone and gets right up to the closed sign. So I get up next to him but far enough away that his douchebaggery doesn’t get on me since he is dripping with it. When we get scanned he doesn’t have a pass. He is an instructor and says it in his CB jacket and he is just doing 1 run before work. The guy says he can’t let him ride without a pass. Bye Felicia! It was awesome. Quite cold this morning and I forgot my mid layer puffy like a dummy. First run down Paradise was fast snow but way too shady. Headed down to East River and the sun was already out there…nice. Felt like just lapping groomers today and they were fun. Back up to Paradise and the sun was out finally up there. Then headed to Teo for 2 quick bump runs. Well not exactly quick, but fun. Didn’t realize I only took 2 pics.

Gorgeous day today. Decided to take my dog snowshoeing this morning and save skiing for the w afternoon because…why not? Washington Gulch is always gorgeous and usually empty, even on a weekend. 1 degree when I arrived but felt warm in the sun. Saw this group of 4 skinning up. There is an area called Coney’s that I have had my eye on but it is avalanche prone. Right now the avy danger is low. When my friends come up I am gonna see if they want to check it out. Then in to the skiing after lunch. Lines were about a 5 min wait so not bad. Closer to home lift lines are nuts on weekends. First run down Paradise Bowl and it was surprisingly icy and really scraped off. Decided to head down to the Teocalli Lift which is painfully slow but has good practice bumps and trees. Bump pic for @indiggio The bus is hella crowded in the afternoon, standing room only. Am I the only one who gets paranoid they will eat shot stepping off in ski boots holding skis/poles? Every.single.time
