Nice little write up in Feb edition of Powder magazine about the top 20 under 18. Sean Jordan is #1 and Jackie Kling is #19. I remember reading about Jackie winning Big Boulder's Friday night series a few years back. I think she won a snowmobile.

So my son is finally using the crap out of his gopro I got him 2 Christmas' ago. Its full and he wants to make some videos. I have never done this so I don't really know where to tell him to start. What's a super easy format I can download? Thanks

Picked up a new solomon jacket. Haven't had a new snowboard jacket in about 7 years, just kept updating the kids wardrobes and figured mine was fine. Until I held it up to the light and noticed it had about 3 small patches of insulation left. I notice I don't need as many layers now. Under armor and t-shirt and I'm good.

It wasnt a terrible trip. My kids had fun with their friends. Stephen's neck is getting better every day. There is still a bulge but he can move it a little more each day.

Sunday i wanted to get to BC early but unfortunately my neighbor and her 2 kids who came with us are not early risers. Even after me yelling every 5 min to get moving we didnt walk out the door till 9am. its only a 10 min walk to the gondola that takes you to main shuttle station or catch the shuttle there to the village. I was outvoted on walking so we waited 20 min for a bus to take us 1/2 a mile ugh. Waited in line where ticket prices were a whopping 108 bucks. I got mine for 87 with my son's epic pass buddy discount but it didnt feel like much of a deal. My youngest son was in a mood and said his neck hurt and he didnt feel like skiing. So me being the worst mother in the world, left him in the village and went riding. You have to take 2 lifts to get to the summit which took a while. Then i ended up on a mogul run which the pasr's who were at frost last yr can attest to i suck at. So when i finally got down i checked on Stephen and he said his neck reslly hurt. There was a big bulge in the back and be couldnt turn his head. I had some mtn emt guys check him out and they told me to take him to vail ER. So one of the emoloyees drove us back to the condo which was abive and beyond. He had bad neck strain from what I dont know, but he did ski the day before so maybe he did it then. The next day my neighbor and her kids didn't feel like skiing so it was just me, David and one of his friends from Boulder we inherited the night before. They left me if course but I didnt mind. Conditions were scraped off and icy with rocks and branches showing in a lot of spots. I had a previous injury that was acting up so i didnt go back out after lunch. I skipped Vail today because talking to some locals, they said Vail was not much better than Beaver Creek. I dropped off David and his friend (who both have epic passes) and they said it was horrible. Very icy and scraped off so glad I saved my money. Heading home tomorrow and I'm glad because 5 days with 6 teenage boys farting up a 2 bedroom condo is enough for me.

conditions at Beaver Creek the last 2 days have been dissapointing. No new snow and pretty scraped off. At least the trails are super long. Heading to Vail tomorrow, hopefully that wull be a bit better.

Jeff-I told the property manager to price it low enough so it rents a lot. The only rate he told me so far is Christmas week (I'm racing to be ready by then). $375 per night. This is the most expensive week and rates will go down from there. If you look on vrbo type in Winter Park, all the developments come up. Click "Sawmill Station" and see what people are charging. Some people charge crazy amounts like $600 per night for Christmas week. I want it to rent so I'm not gonna get greedy. Next season when I want to use it more often maybe I'll raise the rates a bit. It will sleep 11 when I'm done furnishing it. If you get a decent group of people its not that expensive.

@AngryHugo-The whole "moose" bear, elk, even Indian with horses decor is why I graciously declined to "buy" most of their furniture from them. I think they went to every yard sale they could find and bought something with a moose on it. I did have them throw in the two upstairs bedroom sets and sadly one does have tin moose cutouts on the headboard (ewww). @JFskiDan-It is getting harder to keep the secret since its mine now. But I know as soon as I take them up there they will not want to be going to Eldora and Loveland. @Nick-any time your interested send me a PM. And yes, I can definitely say I have no regrets about moving to Co. I have no idea why I stayed in NJ so long now I know what places like this have to offer.
-
I said I would never buy another place near a ski resort, well never say never. I sold a property in NJ and if I bought another "investment" property I would save a lot of taxes. So that's what I did. I just settled on it last week and am still getting it furnished etc. I'm using a property management company to rent it but they haven't got it up on their site yet since I have no pictures (of it furnished). I'm including a link from the previous owner's homeaway site. If any pasr's are interested in renting it I would offer a 20% discount, but not for prime time (holidays, March etc). If you are interested contact me directly. Since I already signed my son up for the race team at Eldora I am not even telling my kids about this until later. I have spent enough money on season passes this year and do not plan on buying one to WP. So I would like to rent it out this season as much as possible and make some money. http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p7129933h

The gondola is being advertised as the fastest way to get from Avon to Beaver Creek Mountain. A three-minute gondola ride delivers skiers to Beaver Creek Landing, where two high-speed quad chairlifts deliver skiers and snowboarders in 16 minutes to the main mountain. This is all I know since I've never been there.

With the epic pass you get epic mix which keeps track of your stats. I just looked up my son and his best day was 19,379 vert in 10 runs. But that may be low because the other days it only tracked him doing 2 runs per day and they definitley rode more than that. Pretty cool feature though.

Thanks for the replies. On Beaver Creek's website (and I'm sure on Vail's too) they have lodging specials going on right now. If you book by 12/15 you get 30% off your stay throughout the season. I got a 2 BR 2 Ba condo in Avon for $207 per night. But I just realized my younger son's 6th grade ski pass is not valid at any of the Vail resorts (D'oh). Ullr-that parking thing is a bitch. I got a ticket my first week in Boulder for my passenger back wheel touching the line in a municipal lot.

So since my son is having the time of his life in Vail and already wants to go back I found a great deal on a condo in Avon 12/17-12/21. Christmas break out here is 2.5 weeks long! Anyway I booked this particular place because it said it was near the gondola that takes you right to the base of Beaver Creek. From what I've read, Beaver Creek is not as crowded as Vail since its further. Any thoughts on this? I am sure we want to go to Vail a day or two also. Looks like there is a bus from Avon transit station to Vail for $4.00. Anyone ever taken it, is it a huge pain in the ass? I think parking at vail is $25 so I think I would only be saving $5 by taking the bus since I will have at least 4 kids with me. I think I read Beaver Creek doesn't have a day lodge, is this right? If so where do you put your stuff. I plan on packing lunch for the boys. Any advice appreciated.
-
Yeah I will probably go to Loveland since I have my pass there. I spent all my cash on my kids. And POC my kids absolutely love it here even though it was a rough start. The older one fought with me daily for an entire year. As soon as school started and they made a bunch of new friends they were fine. In Avalon they each had less than 10 kids in their class. The middle school they go to now has 600 kids.

Thanks for the advice. His friends to have epic passes and I looked it up and its only $389 for a teen epic local pass. They are riding 4 days so its about the same price as the window so may as well get a season pass. I'm jealous, one kid is going to Vail and the other is going to Winter Park with a friend for the weekend. I haven't been to either place yet.
-
So my son was just invited to Vail this weekend at the last minute and is leaving in the morning. Anyone know a discount site? Vail online tickets have to be purchased a week in advance and liftopia doesn't have anything. Thanks
