Friday WMMR Cardboard Classic day... who's in??
johnnypowder replied to phillycore's topic in Jack Frost & Big Boulder
Hey, today is my kids 6th b-day - we spent Monday at Blue for him. Regardless of the weather it should be packed. Parking will probably be the biggest issue. The slopes should be ok and lift lines shouldn't be too bad. Registration Check In for The Cardboard Classic starts at 9am and the event starts around 1ish so that should move most of the people from the slopes to the tubing area. We are again sponsoring the WMMR Day Off and there is some great prizes for the Cardboard Classic. We even have put together our own creation (a repllica of the A-Team Van with seating for 6!) and hope to take the group division! See ya there! -
Yep, you're right, just a little slip of the finger on the keyboard.

Don't know what skis he rides exactly but i was told that they are sending in a special pair for him as he can't ski anything off the rack. Even though he's not a big guy he destroys stock skis. Skier cross is his thing now. Schedule for the day: 8:30-9:30am - FREE registration for FUN skier cross 10-11:30am - FUN skier cross Daron will Pre-run course, Open to anyone, FREE registration, Challenge your buddies, race your family. Winner of each race is entered into raffle for great prizes from Atomic, Buckman's, and Red Bull. 10-11:30am - Ski with Daron, sign up to ski a few runs with Daron in small groups of no more than 8! 11:30-12:30pm - Autograph Session in the lodge. See you there!
-
Come meet, greet, and ski with Daron Rahlves on Sunday the 4th. All of the details are being finalized but: there will probably be a skier cross competition, there will definitely be an autograph session, and who knows what else. Buckman's will be there, ATomic will be there, Red Bull will be there, so should you! For those of you a little slow on the up take, Daron is a former Olympian and World Cup racer (with over 21 podiums) in DH and GS. He retired from the race circuit after the '05 season and has branched out into freeskiing and skiercross. He was in the finals of the X-Games SkierX this year and was looking good for the win until he got tangled up with another racer and crashed out. His racing experience is making him a force in the skiercross world. Guys like Daron don't get to PA and ski at places like Bear Creek very often so don't miss this! The timing of the events will mostly be in the AM as he needs to leave town by about 2:30 to catch a plane. Watch for more details as they get finalized.

My video guys (New Media Technologies) did a real quick edit for the web showing mostly stuff from the finals and have posted it on you tube at: it does show the "podium shot" of both divisions. In about 2-3 weeks the final edit will be done.
-
it's also listed on SAM click here that leaves ASC with only 3 resorts - Sunday River, Sugarloaf, and The Canyons

Hey guys - thanks for the props! We worked really hard to try to put on a great event. Great to see 3 skiers in the finals and 2 of them placing. After working round the clock from Fri 7am til Sun 2pm I had to take a day off to recover. Now that i'm back in the office i will try to gather the results info and see if i can get the photo of the winners. My video guy is working on a quick web edit which i should have in a day or two and will post. Then in about 2-3 weeks we should have a complete 30-45min DVD edited and packaged which we will offer to anyone interested. Probably will have to charge for it but will let you know. Shouldn't be much. Thanks to everyone who came out and competed or watched. We will do this again next year at least once!

Just a bit of an update - we begin setting up tomorrow morning. one issue with the AA setup was speed - we have raised the tower almost 5' to give a better drop in. the up to down also won't be so vertical. hope to see a lot of pasr's there. be sure to say hi, i will have either a red or black jacket with the buckman logo on the back. i will be going in a bunch of directions all day but i would like to meet some pasr's. i will try to post some photos tomorrow afternoon as we are setting things up.

you'd be surprised what we can pay with trade! but getting back on topic, I'm just looking for someone interested in building their portfolio or someone who was thinking of coming to shoot their friends anyway. if you're going to be there anyway, why not get something for it. not really looking for someone who is in the business. if not interested, no worries on my part.

Anyone interested? I have video covered but am looking for someone who might like to shoot stills. You shoot photos all day and give me copies of everything on a memory stick or DVD and.. I'll ante up some swag and an ALL ACCESS PASS which will get you on the snow, on top of the scaffolding, into the Red Bull Athlete lounge to hang with JJ Thomas and Erik Leines, and entrance into the after party at PJ Welihans if you are over 21. First to PM with a link to some photo samples can be on board.

1 event left - The Montgomeryville Meltdown on Saturday 2/17
-
Here are the Results from today's Amateur Athlete Assault and the standings for the series after 2 of 3 events
-
I have posted some photos of the set up from AA. We have found some things we want to tweak to make it even better. The up to down box was a little too vertical and some riders had trouble carrying enough momentum to clear it. For our event next Sat we are going to make it more of a flat to down. Hopefully we will also have some natural snow on Tues so that we don't have to truck in as much. The timing of the event in Montgomeryville is a little later in the day and it will finish under the lights. JJ Thomas and Erik Lienes are definites and will be hanging all day signing autographs and will put on an exhibition around 5:30. Hope to see you as a competitor or spectator! Spectators will be eligible for a raffle to win some great prizes as well!

Skiers - don't like being excluded? Then check out the Oakley event this Sunday Amateur Athlete Assault set up pictures
-
Both skiers and boarders are welcome at the Oakley Series events! Things are coming together and Sunday should be a great event. The scaffolding arrived this morning and is up. Trucks delivered the snow. The rails arrived from BC Ironworks

not sure about the skullcandy's at the AA event. the montgomeryville event will definitely feature free skullcandy smokin buds to every competitor. this series is set up with 2 classes - open and grom (12 and under) groms can enter the open class if they want to go for the cash and think they can hang with the big boys. skiers and boarders, male and female in the same class. sorry, just how it was chosen to be done if we start breaking out into skier, boarder, male, female then the prize money gets too diluted (or we need to double or quadruple the amount of cash we give out) - and neither option really works.
-
it's the 2nd stop on the Oakley Rail or Bail Series. Sunday 2/11 - Westgate Mall parking lot Rails by BC Ironworks, Snow from Camelback 14' scaffolding tower Cash prizes for Open Class, product for groms. register on-site at this point. then check out our event in Montgomeryville the following week (2/17) for the finale of the series. Erik Lienes and JJ Thomas are confirmed finals under the lights.

jeenyussb is right, you can pick and choose.

Hey, if you can take the day off, Elk is the place to be! It's one of their Elkfest Multi-Shop Demo days. Lift tickets are only $15 for the day if purchased in advance! Tickets are availalbe at Berger

that's the right idea!

Give Kids a chance! We are not looking for beginners! It is just an age thing. If they are willling and able to stand at the top of the 18' tower and drop in then chances are they aren't noobs! In our case grom is 12 and under. It's our way of supporting the younger riders and exposing them to competition giving them incentive to improve and continue to compete as they get older. If there is a rider under 12 who thinks they can hang with the older riders they are welcome to compete in the open class but for most younger riders it's not fair for them to be in an open class. If groms don't get to compete when they are young, then as they get older they will be behind the curve. There will be 2 lines as you drop off the ramp - choose the one that best fits your style and ability. Be sure to bring your A game! Oh, and watch out, I know an 8 year old boarder from Shawnee that probably will beat most of the riders in the open class!
-
the direct link is http://www.active.com/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1393909 we expect to have at least 2 options - one more technical for the open class and something a little less such as a flat box or even a butter box ideal for the groms. as soon as we have the actual features chosen i will let you all know.
-
not sure which model but i will try to find out! i know they retail for $59 or there abouts. see you at the event!
