  1. Here's the latest on the Oakley Rail Jam events being held in Bethlehem (2.11.07) & Montgomeryville (2.17.07): A change has been made and BC Ironworks will be providing the rails! We are working with Andy to choose the best features for our events. For Montgomeryville we also have confirmed that Bjorn and Erik Leines will be attending. We are close to confirming Kier Dillon and David Audbrey (sp?). One way or the other we will definitely have 2 additional pros hanging out for the event. The pros will NOT be competing but will put on an exhibition and will hang out to sign autographs and BS. I am psyched about how things are shaping up for these events. Loads of cash & prizes! Limited to the 1st 100 competitors to sign up on active.com Each competitor will receive a set of Skullcandy headphones just for competing (a value of $59) and just about every competitor will walk away with something in the way of product swag. Of course Red Bull will be hanging out handing out tons of product. The series kicks off Saturday 2.03.07 at Camelback then moves to the parking lots on 2.11.07 & 2.17.07. Oakley + Buckman's + BC Ironworks = a great event!

  3. sounds like the 27th at JF/BB is going to be busy! J4 race, PASR day, and WMGK 102.9 out of Philly is doing a ski day with John Debella (not crazy like MMR) where kids 12 and under get to ski FREE! bet that will get a lot of noobs in the park! They're advertising it for JF but it's good at BB as well. if you have kids and want then to ski free, check out www.wmgk.com, you need to register for free to be one of their insiders but then you can print a coupon good for the 27th. just an fyi so that when you see all the kids you know what's up!
  4. Double check the power cost issue! I have been told by many ski area management types that it is much more cost effective to blow snow overnight. JF and Blue are two of those mtns i have specifically heard it from. Their demand when they are blowing on the whole mountain must be huge. That said, with the way the weather has been, one side of me thinks that they would all blow every time the temps were favorable. Perhaps their long range forecasts show that the cold temps will stick around long enough that if they only blow at night and save some money that they will still have enough of a window for snowmaking to let them get terrain open according to a schedule that they are comfortable with.
  5. I believe it would. If you bought top notch stuff you should let your insurance guy know and have it specifically added to your policy - just like that 4ct diamond wedding ring you gave the mrs. You should have photos of everything you own which is worth replacing - i suggest a video inventory (or photographic) of everything you own including your ski and board gear. Lay out all of your gear, take photos or video and document serial numbers and what you paid for it. Keep original receipts in a file. The more info you have, the easier it will be to get it back and or have the insurance company reimburse you.
  6. great idea! chances are the shop you bought it from doesn't keep track of serial numbers so once it's gone you can't find out what the number was. theft doesn't only happen at the slopes! we catch people trying to steal out of the shop every year. we have even had people try to walk out with a board under their arm! or those brazen enough to try a grab and run with a getaway car waiting by the door. for every one person who gets away with it and tells all their friends, there are 10 others who get caught. and as in life, we all end up paying for the idiots who think stealing is the way to go. if you have had or ever have a board or skis stolen and have a photo and serial number distribute it to the area shops! we will post it and have our employees keep their eyes open. if the idiot who stole it brings it in for a tune, for a mount, or other work we will catch it! most shops will do the same!
  7. then how about a second husband? not hitting JFBB up much this year but will pm you if we head that way. we tend to mix it up by spending time at all of the different areas.
  8. in talking to Mark it sounds like they will be open Thurs (the 18th). Fri am at the latest!
  9. If you get enough people call group sales. ask for Sharon at JF (tell her John sent you!) Think you need about 15 not counting pass holders. If that doesn't work check the local shops for discount tix. At Buckman's we have JF/BB weekend Tix for $39. or if you are 18 and under we have Youth tix for $31. It's possible that some of the shops might have them for $1-$2 less (we mark them up $3 to cover costs, loss, employee theft, etc...). Buy them in advance, if you don't use them return them for a full refund. on a side note, check out our special discount days at different mtns. this friday the 19th we are at Bear - only cost you $15 for a full day ticket. monday the 22nd we are at Blue - only $15 for a lift (valid 8:30a-5p or 12:30p-10p) we have 4 other days (all fri or mon) in Feb. this is a great way to try other mtns without dropping a load of cash if you have a pass somewhere. all discount tix have to be bought in advance but are fully refundable if not used! not trying to sound like a salesman! we don't make much on these tix but offer them to try to save people money, get people on the slopes, and spread the love!
  10. If you have a season pass to Mtn Creek or any other NJ or NY resort and want to head north - check out Whiteface! They are offering some nice discounts just for having a season pass somewhere else (sorry, doesn't look like it is valid for PA resort passes) news.alpinezone.com/12737/ Also saw that Whiteface allowed their Non-Holiday Season Pass Holders to ride today (MLK Day)! It would be cool if some of the local resorts start lifting the restrictions on some of their passes due to the lousy winter so far.

  12. 13. Barb - looking for an adoptive son? well behaved , helpful around the house, makes his bed, good cook,........ you will get instant grand kids - 2 wonderful boys age 10 & 5, one skis, one boards... feel free to let me know!
  14. Their website says FRIDAY the 12th, 4pm! It's gonna be CROWDED! so relax and be thankful for being on the slopes! Holiday weekends bring out all typess and their ski school will be hopping.
  15. points taken i will talk to Bill about your concerns, perhaps even suggest he read the thread. don't know what to suggest about getting judges more skier friendly... as more skiers enter contests things will level out. Bill's apparent bias may stem from the fact that he runs an organization which started out as a snowboard specific group and most of the area comps are more than 80%-90% boarders. For the last few years his series has been open to skiers. Hopefully skiers will continue to infiltrate the comps. i was stoked at Shawnee last Sat as there were between 5-10 skiers out of 60 competitors and a skier won! it would be great to see skiers making up 25%-40% of the competitors at each comp. until that happens you will always have some bias and until the number of skiers increases at comps you will have them being judged in the same class as boarders. as an example, for a competition based on the top 6 getting cash: if instead of an open class there is a boarder and skier division, the amount of prize money will need to be doubled and does that really make sense if the skier division only has a couple entries? hey, i'm just playing advocate here, i ski and absolutely love when skiers dominate a competition. i think skiers on rails is more impressive than boarders (for the most part). back to the topic at hand, Bill is a good guy and is ultimately concerned about the safety of everyone in the competition. if he is running any part of it, he becomes ultimately liable if something is unsafe or someone gets hurt. unfortunately in this great country we live in one needs to be concerned with liability and being sued.
  16. that's how it was taken and as papa said, I am with Buckman's and we help sponsor his MASS series of events. this year we are his exclusive shop sponsor. last year we sponsored the events at BC only. thru stuff with Oakley (in particular Freddie K our rep) we have done stuff with Bill for years like the Feb Rail Jam at BB last year, our Nighttime Rail or Bail Contest (which is where the series name came from for this year) at BB in Jan '04, and some other stuff. had some flurries in Pottstown this morning and looks like a chance for snow on Tues! winter is back!!!!!
  17. Looks like you answered your own question but for his events in the area he has a staff of judges who he has trained. They are trained for the different disciplines such as pipe, slopestyle, rail, etc... I have known Bill for a while and have been happy with being affiliated with his MASS series as a sponsor and also having him run competitions we have put on.
  18. His USASA affililation comes from his starting and running the MidAtlantic Snowboard Series (MASS). He also runs many of the competitions in the region including parts of the Grand Prix at MC (which has been cancelled and is being moved due to lack of snow) and the US Open He also runs some events out west including the USASA Nationals. He is the force behind the Camelback Mountain School He is also handling the registration and judging for the Oakley Rail or Bail Series. He is picking the rails and will decide on the set up at each location. He knows his stuff and knows how to run a good, efficient, and safe competition
  19. What about Chadd's Peak down off of Route 1 in Chadd's Ford? on the way to Brandywine. Don't know if there is still any reminants or if they built homes on the hill...
  20. Just got off the phone with Josh at Shawnee and they are stoked about throwing this rail jam together! It's last minute but they are trying to gather up as much swag and stuff as they can. Sounds like Red Bull is going to be there. Their slopes aren't in great shape but they are putting this on at the base area in front of the lodge. Sounds like they have been suffering from the same temp inversion that has affected many others. It's been cold enough at the base to make snow but not at the top. I'm gonna try to be there and if I can, I might have some gift cards to the shops to give out. (Buckman's that is!)
  21. If you're still thinking of going, it looks like they still have the link functioning for the $9.33 lift tickets! go to http://www.jfbb.com/wmmr/ They said they were going to stop selling them yesterday around noon but they probably haven't sold 1000 yet! See you there! - stop by the Buckman's tent and say hi!
  22. hey, i was at the waking the snow gods party last friday and the concession prices were more than reasonable! the personal pizzas were under $5 each. trust me, i was thankful since i had the kids with me and they each ended up having a pizza, an ice cream, a soda, some candy, etc... and the beer was only $3.25 which is more than reasonable. they are doing everything they can to keep their employees working, their customers coming to the mtn and should be applauded! it's more about good will for all concerned than making up for lost money. none of the resorts can possibly make up for what has been lost this winter even if we get dumped on the end of this month and it stays cold into late march. good job Mark and Mary and everyone at BC!

    Rumors...

they're gonna be fine think of BC as multiple businesses all owned by the same person- the hotel/conference center is self supporting and expansion is warranted based on that business. the ski resort has packed people in during the last couple of years since the remodel and even last year with a questionable winter their skier visits were up. making improvements (like adding up hill capacity and buying more snow guns) to the ski resort makes sense. this season will be different for the ski resort but the beauty of multiple businesses is that one can support the other in times of need. same goes for many (not all depending on who owns what) resorts with water parks - they can use one to support the other. chances are there won't be a lousy winter followed by a lousy waterpark season. trust me, Southern Mgmt didn't purchase BC on a whim and they know how to run their businesses.
  24. Just got off the phone with Freddie from Oakley. The Grind @ Camelback scheduled for this Sat (Jan 6th) has been postponed. A date will be chosen for later in the month or early Feb that fits the organizers schedules. With the recent rain and the warm and rainy forecast for this week there simply isn't enough snow to move around to set the rails for the competition. They are still open for business at Camelback but our competition has been postponed.
  25. Yes she is (was)! Took the 45min drive to BC tonight to check out the festivities. Ch 10 was there, so was Ch 69 (Berks Co.). First let me say that their web site said 18 and over but I sent Mary a PM around 5pm and within an hour she got back saying that they decided to make it open to all ages. So, took the family. Kids enjoyed the fire and the snacks. Wife and I enjoyed the band (yes they were country and southern rock) and really enjoyed embarrasing our oldest as we danced. Drinks were reasonably priced. I'm guessing a few hundred were there. Some of you probably got some runs in at CB or BB or Blue tonight but BC put on a good party and gave some of it's employees work You think you pass holders have it tough, what about the people who booked the hotel a year out and are stuck at BC without much to do! I have been skiing for 35+ years and in the business for 15, and can think of only a couple of winters that have come close to this. Things will get better before Spring gets here and the mountains will be in good shape. You will have the opportunity to get your money's worth out of your pass. Enjoy New Year's, enjoy the Eagles win, and make some turns!
