Summit county meaning... dillon, frisco, silverthorne area?? I was considering the alpine inn in frisco $92 nt

This whole thing is my fault anyway honestly.. I dropped the ball and never bought the transfour pass like I was going to and they stopped selling them. The powpow platter is a better deal $$ wise and would give me a chance to check out all three places.... it just seems like a lot of driving when you throw steamboat into the mix. I would just get a hotel room and go that route as I'd feel weird otherwise, but I do sincerely appreciate the offer it is seriously cool of you... Given my flight info below... . Sat Jan 24 2151 Depart PHILADELPHIA INTERNATIONAL (PHL) at 7:05 AM Arrive in DENVER INTL (DEN) at 9:35 AM Wed Jan 28 1698 Depart DENVER INTL (DEN) at 5:10 PM Arrive in PHILADELPHIA INTERNATIONAL (PHL) at 10:40 PM I have plenty of downtime on both my arrival and departure day... So I might want to consider driving from Denver to Steamboat on day 1 (24th) find something to do around town or whatever then ski steamboat on day 2 (25th) Then leave steamboat and head to silverthorne / frisco area and stay there 25th-26th Ski copper on the 26th.... then head to W/P and stay there 26th-28th ski W/P the 27th and then just find something to do on the 28th (maybe around Denver) before I need to head to the airport.. That gives me 3 days of skiing (which is what I've down my 2 previous trips out west) Moving from hotel to hotel will be a pita though...

Due to the fact that steamboat is located so far from the other two... would I be better off buying two of the powpow passes and ski 2 days at w/p and 2 days at copper (would make the lift tix $50 each compared to reg rates) and then just not use the steamboat tickets ??
-
ok, just did a search and realized that steamboat is nowhere near the others whatsoever... I'm guessing the best way to go about something like this would be to.... Arrive at Denver airport Jan 24th (early) and drive straight to winter park ski there on the 24th buying a day pass Stay overnight and ski winter park on the 25th using day 1 of powpowplatter stay overnight in winter park Leave early am and drive to copper... ski copper the 26th day 2 of powpow then depart towards steamboat. Stay ??? overnight Ski steamboat on the 27th day 3 of powpow and stay overnight there. Depart for Denver airport on the 28th early and fly home

I am headed out to Colorado Jan 24th - 28th and was considering using this -> www.powpowplatter.com where I can get a lift ticket to copper, winter park, and steamboat for $99 My question is this.. how far away are these places from each other?? Would I be better off booking hotel stays at each place and then drive to the next or is one central location better or ?? I'm not familiar with Colorado's geography and where all these are exactly, although I plan on renting a car at Denver airport then working it out from there.. This just seems like it's a good deal and a cool way to try out a few different places that I haven't skied at yet..

I'm over 30 but yes I ski once or twice a week and I'm happy with that.

I would just like to add that while I was out skiing the fresh pow in stratton with my son... After seeing this I realized that I should've brought my laptop along because I really missed PASR. good stuff..

My son and I got the goods as well... The drive up on sunday was absolutely horrific and took us a solid 8 hours due to the severe lack of visibility. The XL7 did phenomenal in the snow and we were able to pass cars left and right with no problems but you couldn't even see the road. We had booked a room at the liftline lodge but they gave us a room at the inn so that was nice. The shuttle picked us up and dropped us off right out front of the hotel and it seemed like it was so much better than having to park at one of the two lots and taking the lot shuttle. We were going to eat at grizzley's for dinner sat. but we got there too late and they were closed, so we ended up eating at bentley's which was in our hotel. $11 Burger and Beer special for me and tenders and fries for Mike. Monday was cold as all hell and no Gondola made it even worse.. Michael and I braved the cold all day and were there from 8:45 till close with an hour stop at Cob's Market for some chicken fingers and fries. They never did open the Gondola on Sunday due to the wind and there was a lot of it. Plenty of pow to be found everywhere. Spent most of the morning on the american express lift and on the runs skiers left and directly under that lift. There was lots of pow everywhere and it didn't seem like too many people were over there so we pretty much had it all to ourselves. We took our cob's market break around 11 and were back out by noon heading towards the upper part of the mountain. We spent most of the rest of the day off the ursa lift and lapping North American (franks fall line), upper tamarack and the runs around there. Through the course of the day we had hit every run that was open with the exception of the glade runs as my son wasn't comfortable going in there. Oh we also skipped lower liftline as we did upper liftline which was completely ungroomed and was totally a mogul run. After surviving the top we bailed out on interstate and skipped the lower section... Mogul runs are not for me and definitely not for my son. I only took a few pics on my blackberry and nothing worth posting really as it was way too cold to even think about taking the camera out of my jacket. There was nothing on me that wasn't completely frozen by the end of the day and by the looks of the mountain there was a LOT of people who called it quits early. We didn't wait in line not once the whole entire day with the exception of the first time up when the mountain opened. We capped the night off with a trip into manchester ctr. for some grub and picked up some drinks at the 7-11 right before the access road to Stratton. Tuesday up bright and early for continental breakfast, check-out and the shuttle to the slopes. They opened the mountain up at 8:30 so we were there and hopped right onto the gondola. On our Gondola car we were talking to a first aid guy who said they just opened up upper standard and rimeline for the first time this season so we made that our first run down. Back up the gondola and over to the kidderbrook section down to the sunbowl. They opened up another section over there that was untouched and ungroomed and was completely covered in fresh pow so we spent a few runs on that. They were starting to build the halfpipe down there as well but that was all roped off for the groomer. No breaks for us today as it was our last day and we wanted to get in as much as possible... We just made our way back and forth across the mountain mostly staying on the Ursa, Sunrise, American Express lifts as the gondola was too slow (according to Mike...lol) We ended up leaving to catch the shuttle at 2 after Mike tried the box in the beginner park. Was a pretty smooth ride home and we were making great time until we hit rush hour traffic getting onto and all down the Garden State Parkway which took a good 45mins to get through at 10-30mph 6:10 total time back including a (timed) 7 minute stop at a rest stop to get grub and gas. (drive thru mcd's at rest stop kicks ass!!) All in all a great trip and couldn't ask for better snow for my son's first outing outside of Pa.

Woke up to my blackberry alarm at 5:30 and had to tag the snooze button to get out of bed...lol Finally got up and woke my son up, loaded the powder white XL7 and headed to the WaWa for a gas n go. Took it nice and slow on the way up (75mph) as I didn't want to get a ticket before next weekends trek to Stratton. Arrived in the lot a little on the late side for me, but I was in no rush. Started booting up when someone parked next to me and I thought to myself I think that's Barb. I asked her if she was Barb from PASR and it was. Barb and crew booted up and moved onto the lift ticket window and Mike and I followed a minute or so behind. Got out tix and headed straight for DeMatte's demise... It was fresh cord covered by an inch of pocono powder and was smooth as silk. I then split from my son and he went back on DeMatte's as I headed towards Thunderbolt which must've been groomed later as there was no powder on top, just fresh cord. I next hit Challenge which was simalar to T-Bolt but much nicer. You could carve it like thinly sliced ham on X-mas. Sooo Smooth... I ran into the same guy I always run into on weekend first tracks (don't know his name, just that he's always there and he skis on some older PE's..he's totally legit though and is a really good skier) Rode the chair with him and chatted about skis and whatever for a minute. I then hit challenge a few more times messing around in the trees on occasion, then moved onto T-bolt glade. The gladed areas really make Jack Frost so much fun to ski at. Eventually I ran into Mike at the top of the lift where he was waiting for me. We then skied thunderbolt together a few times and moved onto challenge, then exhibition where they were blowing and it made some piles to jump off of and screw around with. Around 10:35 we took a really quick break to get warmed up as it was cold. Left the lodge just before 11 and started to unlock our skis when I saw one of Barb's kids crying out front of where the ski racks are. I recognized his camo burton jacket from when they parked next to us so I asked him if he was okay. He nodded, I then asked if he lost his mom and he nodded again. I tried to make him feel better by telling him I knew his mom's name was Barb and I would help him find her. He said he saw his uncle's board on the rack, so I asked him his uncles name and he said it was Jerry XXXX. I left my son with him and I went inside to go ask guest services to have him paged, but I recognized him walking down the hall and told him his nephew was outside upset. We went together to him and then Mike and I went back to ski as Jerry helped him with his skis and all that. Mike and I headed for the green trails as we wanted to hit ridge run... It was rather boring so we only did that once then headed over to love park. We did that twice then made our way back to play in the trees over on thunderbolt - challenge. Even though it was the first day they were open you could make it easily from top to bottom in the woods alongside both challenge and t-bolt glade. It appears as if they cut away some more trees in there too so it's even more open to shred than before.. STOKE!!!! I then spent the next hour or so helping Mike make turns and getting him to get away from relying on the snowplow when he felt like he was going too fast. He made some serious improvement today which I'm hyped about because next weekend I'm taking him up to Stratton with me as an early X-mas present. He's never skied outside of Pa before and he doesn't even know he's going yet. I am having a really hard time not telling him too. To end the day we went back and played around in the glades and then took off after 36 runs. Stopped by the McDonalds drive through for a really late lunch or early dinner and made the drive home. Took it easy on the way back home again as I still don't want to get a ticket.....lol Maybe I'll take a camera to stratton next week... probably not though...I'm lazy

Yeah I think I'm doing a good job of making up for not travelling last season... Trip to Killington in Nov Trip to Stratton in Dec. Trip to ??? Colorado in Jan. Might have to try and sneak in a late March early April trip to Vt. too... lol We played the powerball or mega millions at work (20 people) and hit $150 one number off of hitting 10k we put the money back in for tonights..... always hoping for the best...lol

Decided to just stay the two days at Stratton rather than swing back towards home and hit Hunter on the 2nd day. I also upped the ante a little bit and decided to take my son on his first trip outside of Pa. (skiing) as an early X-mas present. I figured screw it if my wife can drop $250 on tickets for Disney on ice with my two little ones... Me and my son can go skiing for $275 up in Vt. Sounds like a fair trade to me... STOKE!!

Of course I did it matches my eyes... Nope... Gunmetal

Anyone going to boulder on Friday?
phillycore replied to Robert2's topic in Jack Frost & Big Boulder
That's why my 2008 BB days are now over... I may sneek in a night at some point though, who knows -
this thread should be closed... Blue will be soon enough when that hag sells it off to a real estate developer who turns it into a ghey water park and adventure retreat for boy scout troops

I'll be there at some point this weekend... not sure sat or sun yet though.... weather determins that...

I agree that snowdrift was rather bumped up at the top... The run when my son bailed on it, I went down a little bit and decided to just follow my son. I'm not into the bumps and my firstbloods weren't helping matters any either.. There was WaWa bags in the parking lot?? Some people are just plain slobs... I just leave my trash in my car until I get home and use the can there if I don't see one close by.

No pics... just another blah blah blah TR here... Left Brookhaven at 6am en route to Big Boulder along with my eldest son. Hit up the WaWa for a 24oz French Vanilla Coffee with splenda, my son got a powerade and a entemans cheese danish. Roads were clear all the way up to BB.... nothing out of the ordinary. Pulled into the lot and snagged a spot in the front row like normal reading on the car temp said 24 degrees. Booted up, got my ticket and one for my son and headed out to tackle the 8 trails they had open.. I was on my 9th ward firstbloods and my son on his PE's. Started off lapping love park for the first 5 runs as my son was not comfortable on his PE's yet. Snow was smooth cord groomed to JFBB standards of course sans any death cookies. After lapping love park I moved over to Boulder trail while my son took on Bunny Schuss/Bunny Elbow. After 4-5 runs I saw my son on Boulder Trail while I was riding the lift and he waited for me at the bottom. We skied Boulder trail together about 2 times then moved over to Bunny Schuss together for 2 more trips. The snow on Bunny Schuss was nice but there were some windblown areas with exposed hardpack. My son wanted to attempt snowdrift so we went in from the top and he changed his mind due to the bumps at the top section. He then skied across back onto boulder trail and I followed him down boulder trail. On the next liftride up he saw an easier route onto snowdrift which skipped the top tree section where the bumps were. We skied down boulder trail past the headwall then headed onto snowdrift. It was thin cover with some exposed mini trees on the skiers right side where we headed down. My son fell on what he claims was a rock, but I have a feeling he went down as it was steeper than he expected it to be. Back down to the lift and then back over to love park for a few more runs. (I also made a run underneath the lift which was thin cover but really fun) After love park we headed towards little boulder and skied that once, then freedom park 3 times. No rails or boxes for me, although I did do the jump twice which was fun. My son rode over the jump on freedom once getting about 1-2 milimeters of air....lol 1-2 more trips down love park... Ended the day over at Boulder trail / Bunny Schuss.. All in all it was a good cold windy day and probably my last at boulder for a while as JF is supposed to open next weekend... = )~~
