Yes, that's what I do, Rob---constantly degrade threads. Asking questions and having an opinion should be left to things other than message boards. Because you have trouble reading and comprehending, I'll point out that I didn't bash Camelback about this. In fact, it's probably just as positive---if not more---as what Montage did for their freestylers. What CB is doing is a GOOD thing because it's absolute grass roots. Got it? And if you need to motivate little kids with swag, then you've done a shitty job with your kids.

Speaking of season passes, any word on the benefits and extra discounts? We used to get a free ticket with each pass, as well as food/gift shop discounts...I don't see anything on the site.

I'm not confusing anything, DH. In fact, judging is the downfall of slopestyle and pipe contests. I've heard and read countless people saying that "the judging sucked, but the swag rocked." Now there's a sport that needs some tweaking, IMO. BTW, there actually is a sport very similar to snowboarding comps: skydiving. The photographer is just as important as the diver. That is an incredibly negative statement. Is it really true? If so, that's just the most horrible thing I've read about newschoolers. Imagine some little eight year old kid coming up to his baseball coach and saying he doesn't want to play because he won't get enough free shit. And any arguement that it's a different sport is irrelevent because attitude is attitude, no matter the venue. Wow, what would happen if the swag dried up? The kids would all quit?
-
If you have no reason to lie, then why do you do it so often, Rob? A dad that teaches his kid that winning swag should the driving factor in competition, as opposed to all the positive goal oriented messages available, is blowing what could be a lifelong lesson. Yeah, it's a lot harder to help your kid build good character; it's a lot easier to dangle swag instead of committment to competition. Freeridintre might be interested to know that virtually no junior ski racers are sponsored. Thousands of kids--the vast majority that's probably 99.99%--do it simply for the love of the sport. Ski and board shops don't seem to have a problem throwing some of their formerly 300% marked-up gear at comps as bait. They aren't doing anyone any favors...they calculate what they'll make back from the exposure, just like they do from a print ad. I'm not knocking them, I'm knocking the parents whose only involvement is to cart their kids to comps with the biggest swag. Instead of coaching or helping manage grass roots programs, they get sucked into a 'who has the biggest prize' show. And one very tangible downside: accepting prizes at these comps takes away your kid's eligibility

That blows. It's like they said: "Ratings are sketchy as is, so let's make it subscription based and only available online, so virtually nobody in the US will see any racing." And, btw, the opening WC races were cancelled because of rain and warm temps.
-
That's clearly your opinion. Winning crap you may or may not already have, as opposed to having kids strive to be their best for the sake of being a champion---or reaching goals---isn't in the mix for people like you. Now, there's a revelation! Do you honestly believe it's better that way? To have a bunch of kids show up and ski/board to win a pair of goggles as a prize? Is that really better than having them compete to take pride in doing their best? If my kid ever didn't want to compete because there wasn't enough shit given away, I think I'd stop driving her and have her get a job at some mall. Uh, yeah, sure...pffft. That's as made up as your resume.
-
I'm a little confused: when did kids wanting to be the best get turned off because there wasn't enough swag? I understand and believe that mountains should give discounted lift tickets, but getting motivation from merchandise is---IMHO---sorta lame. (I wonder if that will offend some people....)

Ha, that's a a nice benefit to the race team. And you just know the Rangers are going to be watching them closely...very closely.
-
The head coaches are Susan and Bill Steinbach...parents of racers. They've been coaching there for years and I know Bill fairly well. He's absolutely passionate about racing and has "retro" race days, where the coaches dress in old gear for races. He's a true 10 HC pacesetter, which I think is very cool; I totally believe in coaches that actively race, like our own Johnny from MC. Montage also hired away Shawnee's head coach, Scott Book, a couple of years ago. Elk may have the coaches with the most attitude, but I'd rank "Sno Mountain's" coaches as among the best in PARA. There are also three or four former racers that have come back to coach, so there's a lot of energy in the program.
-
Sounds like you've already worked the "healthy activity" angle with your parents. I had that one going for a long time, but then my mom went through my glove compartment and found out I was getting wasted AND going skiing.
-
Montage 4/5 racers sure kicked the crap out of the CATs during the late season weekend-long races at Montage. Home course advantage, maybe? Actually, the team lost their best training slope, Lower Runaway, because of the lack of snowmaking from broken pipes. That's why they spent so much time scraping Boomer. Boomer's a great slope for slalom, but it's too steep for GS gates unless they can use the entire slope. I'd like Sib to stop and consider something that dawned on me a while back: the parent of a race kid is the owner of the hill. How could any race parent ask for something more? How many times did CAT race parents get down on their knees to beg for 30 more minutes on a decent slope? Only good thing can come out of that...

Yep. And there's a pic of her 'somewhere' on the snomtn site... That's why they were such a GREAT choice to buy it: rich guy from Philly that loves the sport.
-
Hey, Zonked, I'll buy your lift ticket if I can have your bogo. Oh, and I'm def THERE!
-
It isn't what you 'said, it's how you 'said' it, with fancy words and no clue how to punctuate them. It took a bit to figure out exactly what you were posting. Basically, when you are buying property, you have an understanding with the seller---even prior to closing---that allows you to continue to prepare for changes and improvements. That's all.
-
Well, now, I guess that scumbag Speicher was bullshitting Nick...sour f*cking grapes, I guess. It was Speicher that the commissioners told to screw off since he didn't have the money and wanted them to carry a mortgage. I guess he forgot it was him and not the rich guys from Philly. ABSOLUTELY GREAT JOB gettin' the info, Sno...you ruined Rob's night (and another "naysayer"). It's funny when you pretend to know things.

"Ski I didn't want this to get outa hand. I realized I offended you so I explained myself in the thread thinking that I was being a level headed mod, trying to "hold myself to a higher standard." I don't think Glenn felt offended (he even put question marks in his thread asking if something was wrong with me), and explained myself after you seemed to have a misunderstanding about that as well. The Dr. Phil comment was meant by me to add some humor to what I thought you were overreacting to, and for all I can see was taken by all other members as a humorous comment. As a respected member of these forums for the advice you often give and the time you spend here, I would expect that you take up personal problems with mods through PMs, and would hope you do so in the future." Eh, I'm really not into quietly PMing mods or anyone else that posts crap. We're a community here and if I have something to say, I'll POST it. I'm NOT a respected member here...in fact, I'm a member that is often threatened with banning and actually have been banned. It sorta seems like that's my role. Fine with me. I'm glad the Dr. Phil comment and any other crappy things you may OR MAY NOT post in the future should just be seen as humorous and not offensive in any way. If it's funny to you, then by all means, it must be funny to everyone else. On that note, everything I've ever said to Rob was just meant to be humorous and an attempt to lighten things up. Funny how you request me to PM you to privately discuss a problem, yet you keep posting away about it.

Okay, wasting time SPELLING it out: A CB rider says: "Uh, CB's pipe was in decent/good condition well over 75% of the time. It's definately not as big as blues or bears, but I'll take a rideable smaller pipe any day over whatever Blue had. I didn't hit up BC this past season but from what you are saying, CB's was also better than BC's." A Blue skier/Moderator responds: "Ya I didn't get to CB so have no say on that. I'm not into the ridable mini pipes." I say: "Ha, new mod with an attitude." A diffrent Blue Skiers says: "I noticed it too before, its kind of cool" I say: "Not if it's to diss oldtimers..." The Blue skier/Moderator responds: "If any "oldtimer" feels dissed, feel free to pm me and I'll forward it to Dr. Phil and see what he has to say about it." In my opinion, the Blue skier/Moderator was dickish. If you don't think so, then fine. Are we all supposed to have the same opinion about everything? Any chance you and Rob are done with this, or do I need to explain it further?
-
I didn't say anything because he doesn't like mini pipes. You just wasted how long typing that because you didn't understand why I posted what I posted? I'm not in the mood to go back and spell it out. Jesus f*#ing Chr*$t, just read slower or don't read at all. It's good that you are sticking up for a friend---in fact, that's what I was doing. But at least understand the context. This really wasn't any big deal, but an MB moderator typically is held to a higher standard...that's not to say it's the case here---I don't really know. And, Rob, you are doing what? Maybe acting like a hyena? You want to take a guess at what that means?
-
Much better. You're welcome. (My version of dickish )
-
Sorry, Missy...but don't be too quick to envy any of us with OLN---they may not carry any racing.
-
Keep trying, Rob. You'll figure something out.
-
Me calling you a dick for acting like a dick to a "longtimer" has nothing to do with me, really. It's all about you and how you want to be seen. I'm just an observer who has now been "jokingly" threatened for pointing it out. Maybe you should just move on. Or you can try to be clever...up to you completely.

Oh, NOW I see what you're saying. No the cap time has NOTHING directly to do with a given day's race. BC has done a cap time run, but they only change one or two gates from race to race, so there's no real need to check it often. And at Nationals, courses are set by professional ski instructors at the very least---professional racers at the most. People like that can just look at a course to judge if it's NASTAR compliant. In USSA racing, there is a very specific range of the number of gates on a given course. There is also a specific amount of space both between the gates and how far off-set they are. But in recreational NASTAR racing, they simply recommend how many gates are set and how much time it should take for a pacesetter to ski it. The cap time can be described as a replacement for more strict gate placement rules. In soccer, cap time is equivalent to the ref checking the goal netting before a game. In baseball, it's like an ump asking the grounds crew to check the height of the pitcher's mound. The cap time is more of a behind-the-scenes measure of the difference between skiing a course around the gates and skiing it straight down the hill.

When you responded "Ya I didn't get to CB so have no say on that. I'm not into the ridable mini pipes." No big deal, but it was dickish nonetheless. Just your opinion, which is just as valid as my opinion that you are a dick. You're a Dr. Phil fan? Good for you. I think I read somewhere that he made it big as Oprah's guru...I guess we know what you do all day. Peace.
