Well, we like your candor. But I think you might sometimes scare the shit out of newbies. And I should know, since I've done it several times...er, numerous times.

Ha, Sno, don't beat on the other locals too hard.... Welcome here Skiier1212...what do you do at the mountain? We're all pretty psyched about the sale, but a little nervous until the closing day, which may now be as soon as three weeks.

Pretty sure it's Sno Mountain year 'round. Maybe just marketing as "The Waterpark at Sno Mountain". There's another short thread at the TV news web site, where someone asks what Montage means (we're not the smartest people up here) and the answer was "It's an old Indian term meaning 'wasting millions of taxpayer dollars'."

Great job and THANKS guys!!!! By: Tom Posted: Thursday, 11:24 PM I think the sale is great for the county

I guess they deemed my contributions as not up to par. Thanks, guys, for taking up the slack for me.

Thanks, pyro... Boy, that news station is technologicaly retarded. A day or two to approve posts?

I believe the plan is to finally fix Long Haul for this season, then install the high speed next to it, when they cut the new top to bottom trails. I'm pretty sure all the lifts at Montage have been running at their lowest speed for a few years. Everything that's not broken is almost broken.

As much fun as these little Doug-hating sidebars are to read, it would raise a question or two if I said I was gonna spend a year as a ski bum---at Beaver Creek. It's not saying Beaver Creek is bad, or that it wouldn't be epic...it's just that it seems like a funny place to try and work part-time and ski all day long. Without a place to crash, PC's a tough town for a ski bum. Job fairs are really early and there's a dozen applicants for each crappy job. We chose property near JO because of the price and the ability to MAYBE just go live in a yurt when we felt like it. Oh, and btw, congrats on the opportunity.

Ah, yeah, my bad...actually I'm over there a lot because of Ty. Last season, in fact, we did 20 straight runs down Highball. Can you even imagine how long we spent riding the lift? I guess I was confused from all my time slumming at Blue...Blue's Main Street is a really nice run EXCEPT for all those freakin' people.

I know Smoke has a tower mounted fan gun, but I can't recall where else. Most days, you could increase crowds by 500% and still not have a lift line. Typically, when I ski after work on weekdays, there are 10 people on the North Face from 8-10pm. Would 50 people make any difference? Welcome! I say... I remember over on the CB board a couple years ago when DaveK posted an announcement about the new snowmaking capacity...and Sib did a little quick math and came up with how much baloney and hype ski areas put out each year about their increased snowmaking. So, I don't know that Sno Mountain simply saying they're increasing snowmaking will bring that many more people. Skiers have gotten pretty skeptical about snowmaking hype. They'll probably do a media blitz with a bunch of local commercials, which will crowd up Highball and Main Street on weekends....that's totally fine. Sno Mountain has the perfect layout for isolating newbie crowds.

Huh? Montage is in the northern Poconos. We had a thread a long time ago on temps...CB is about 3 degrees colder than Blue, while Montage is a degree colder than CB. Elk, which in the Endless Mountains was a little colder than Montage. But anyway, the fan guns we have at our little ski hill take a lot of manpower, even just to keep banging off the ice on a lot of days. Plus, there's a lot more moving parts out in the weather.
-
They are contracting with one of the best snowmaking companies in America...I'm in no way an expert, but the tower guns can blow snow at higher temps and make superior snow because of the extra time the 'water' is in the air. Plus, they are much less labor intensive than fan guns, whether mounted or dragged around. And I guess the idea is to make snowmaking as automated as possible.

Yes. I credit her sign with the sale and she should ski for free as long as Sno Mountain owns it. I like your logic when you get home from the bar at 1:30am. No girls, eh?

The one thing Hunter does right is make snow. We've done Thanksgiving race camps there when the ground was bare a few days before camp...then they hit the switch on all those tower guns. It's all win-win for us, MS. Sno Mountain will bring the snow quality and lift speed up to what other areas have...but we get all that empty terrain, since skier/rider numbers will never be all that great. Sno Mountain was the right choice for Montage over Snowtime because they know they need to make the big bucks from a water park and snow tubing. Snowtime's way to turn a profit was strictly from drawing more people to ski/ride. There is NO downside. They'll be shoving the tubers off the hill and down where loose papers blow out of your car on a windy day. And Sno Mountain interviewed all the staff to see what was missing...they know what to do. Good stuff!

It's gonna look like Hunter...

Yes. Part of the agreement gives them a lease (for $1) of the reservoir. I don't remember the specifics, but it's huge and more than enough water, right at the bottom of WL and Boomer. *** Resevoir Pic from Boomer

She turned six last week. USSA the season after this.

Wow, dude, drink a little champagne before worrying...even Doug's stoked and I have to get him to drag his ass up to Montage with the free tickets. Sorry, MS, but I was watching Washo on WYOU...eh, now maybe he can go hate on something else.
-
That bitch Washo was still crying on the news... Hahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!

What they had been promising as 180 new guns is now "at least 200 new guns." I can hardly imagine Montage with snowmaking...tower guns lining the slopes and they just have to flip a switch instead of dragging the cannons around. They'll either start work on the top to bottom high speed right away, or have the Long Haul overhauled and running at top speed. Fast Track and Runaway open top to bottom. That's epic. Maybe they'll hire AJ Kitt away from Bear Creek.

Travel mags often use contract writers but stock photography. If you can build up a decent stock photo portfolio, then you'll be better off than a staffer that 'has' to go where they tell you. Not a bad job...travel the world to remote places...see the world and get paid without having to join the military.

No, my GF at the time went....uh, Debbie #4...she took X and hooked up with some random guy so I broke up with her. No great loss. I never liked concerts; much more into clubs for music.

Ha, they could call it Shawnee as long as they put in that lift and add a couple hundred new guns! Somebody's supposed to call bible camp and let Mark know... It would be the first time I ever called a bible camp...
