Interesting article, Beachie...earlier this year, Schlopy said he hadn't hung out with Bode in over a year. They'd even rented a house together in Europe, before Bode got his bus. He'd said they were best buds, then fame just took Bode off into his own world. Now Bode's eating chips and hangin' with a teammate? It's just one line out of an article, but it's at least a positive sign. Hopefully, it's not just the publicist he hired to work on his image.

Excerpt from a December 2002 article in Ski Racing Mag: Though Kildow grew up in the Twin Cities area, she began skiing at Vail after several years under the tutelage of legendary Erich Sailer at Buck Hill, Minn. In Colorado, coaches began nurturing what Chip Woods calls Kildow's "natural feel for the snow." And while the Buck Hill program is a well-known slalom-star factory, Woods insists the 324-foot slope gives racers a solid foundation in four events. "She had unbelievably good skills when she arrived," says Woods, quick to credit Sailer with schooling Kildow in the fundamentals. "One thing that happens on a small hill is discipline, and even as a J IV, Lindsey had that, which is rare. She picked up speed events right away, but then we'd switch back over to slalom, and between run one and run five you could see it all coming back."

Lindsey Kildow regrouped from a tough Olympics, which included a helicopter evac after a DH training run fall, to finish 2nd at today's World Cup Finals races in Are, Sweden. Her finish helped her clinch 2nd place in the season-long DH standings, behind Austrian Michaela Dorfmeister. Kildow is currently 4th in the Overall standings.

Oh, I just assumed he would go. There are some of the best coaches at the camp part, some of which are involved with the academies. The top finishers from PA Derby are at Future Stars, but race coaches understand that anyone in the top 15 or so has potential. I'd really suggest taking him next year, Rob, and not letting a couple of race parents decide what's best for your racer. The best thing any racer can ask for is an opportunity, which is simply a start bib in a big race. It's sort of like skipping a shot at picthing in the consolation game of the Little League World Series, when there's real scouts in the stands.

Metzy was just .44 seconds off the podium in his class in Friday's race, finishing in 4th, behind a friend of mine from numerous race camps.

Yeah, for sure. That first race, Metzy, IDK...one of wives of a guy in the 80 yr old class dropped her purse and it slid down the slope next to the race course, so she carefully walked down to get it---just as you went through the start wand....she got her purse and climbed back up the slope and went in for a hot chocolate before you crossed the finish.

In football terms, it's like he 'came alive' after he'd been eliminated from the playoffs. By the end of the season, most ski racers are beaten up and hobbled. Walchhoffer, last year's DH Overall Champ, rushed off to a previously scheduled knee surgery after the final race. He had already clinched prior to the race, but felt it was his job to still compete. Back to my analogy: What if Ben Roethlisberger went on NFL Today and called John Elway a cheater and said all his records should be stripped, all because of something he'd read in the National Enquirer? Would you be cheering for Roethlisberger the next time the Steelers came to town? If you belonged to a football MB, would you be telling people that Roethlisberger is a breath of fresh air and everyone else should shut up?

Still waiting on Bode's retraction for spreading FALSE rumors about a true American hero, which doesn't appear to be coming. Poor rich, drunk Bode. 'Dude and Rob know I don't race competitively, so it was clear who he was directing the wannabe towards. He'd also said basically the same thing recently. It's tough to explain a certain type of passion to a casual ski racing observers like Assasin. I'll try to explain it on baseball terms: Just because someone is a huge baseball fan, doesn't mean you don't boo an opposing player, even if he's a great player. Has Manny Ramirez ever been cheered at Yankee Stadium? Has Jeter ever been cheered at Fenway? Ask any great player what he thinks about being booed in a visiting stadium and they always say, "It's a sign of respect for what I'm capable of doing against their team. Bring it on." And I'm saying booing, not racial attacks, or anything like that. Think about it, Assasin. Try telling a Packer fan not to boo a Viking. How about telling a Cowboy fan to go easy on TO, because TO is just misunderstood? World Cup ski racers are like teams, in a way. They have legions of supporters that follow them from race to race. There are good guys and bad guys; friendly one's and jerks. In fact, fans even go too far, such as when Croatian fans through snowballs at Anja Paerson during a GS last year. World Cup racing isn't a junior sport; these are often millionaire professional athletes vying for worldwide fame. Bode used a platform his fame allowed to call Lance a cheater, citing a fake French tabloid story. When Bode showed class early in his career, I rooted for him. But when he started to bitch about the FIS, his teammates, and real heros, he lost a lot of support. Demanding people 'leave Bode alone' is like demanding people not bash basketball players that go into the stands after fans throw beer on them. I'd like to hear what your favorite pro sports team is...

Good luck to the PA J4's headed to New Hampshire this weekend for the Francis Piche Invitational. For most of the PA J4's, it's their first chance to take a crack at some of the best competition there is. Although it's being held at the same time as the Future Stars Camp at Sugarbush, it's still an opportunity to come out of nowhere (the Poconos) and score the upset of a lifetime. Like what 'Dude's gonna do to (and I didn't make this name up; Chad Fleischer did) Hot Diggety Ligetty Dog. Ski fast, Ridge!!!

Hmmmmm....to some people, drinking two pitchers of beer after a recreational race somehow is on par with a 'professional' athlete doing shots until a few hours before a World Cup race. Doug might lose his Atomic sponsorship they had been giving to little NASTAR kids.

It's amazing that a discussion of Bode Miller, including things he and his family have admitted to, results in a grown man bashing a kid on this MB...a kid with more heart for ski racing than anyone else I know.
