  1. Wow, imagine the lost $ and pissed off NYers.
  2. That would be thoughtful...then they could enjoy spending their windfall on various male enhancement products...

    Montage 1/15

Ahhh, I wouldn't know...until they get Lower Runaway open, we have to take the shuttle bus to my Jeep. The second headwall on Cannonball is too steep for Ty. I'm left jonesing for a couple quick runs when it's just us... But it is pretty awesome that instead of catering to the MLK holiday people and opening Boomer and WL, they decided to blow through this cold snap...JUST FOR US REGULARS

    Montage 1/15

We just got back...they are continuing to blow hard on WL and Boomer. Should be a GREAT week after tomorrow's snow/sleet/rain moves out. There's TONS of snow on the North Face. And for all the lousy weather, Main Line and Highball were edge to edge today. I was skiing with my little one and never waited in a lift line on Shuttle; just kept skiing right up to the lift from 2 to 4pm.

It's a course that favors people like Walchhofer or Fritz Strobl...guys that are great gliders. But Rahlves nailed the SG-like turns and carried his speed through the long flats, then was by far the best through the final S turns before the finish. The 2:30 course is a leg burner and by far the longest on the WC circuit. Bode looked dead and was standing up toward the end; he appeared totally out of shape. Bode said an odd thing at the finish: he 'just didn't feel commited to winning' right now. In Sunday's slalom, he finished 8th, btw. He was 30th after the first run and just barely qualified for the second run. His 2nd run time was the fastest of the day. He's an absolute head-case right now.

The winner of the 76th running of the Lauberhorn is Daron Rahlves. Very cool race. Bode finished 2.41 seconds back in 11th place.
  9. The only cool thing about a high-speed is that if it were put in on the left side and made long laps down Upper and Lower Fast Track and Runaway possible.
  10. Not to be negative about anywhere else, especially Booter Mnt., but we just have different priorities and expectations at Montage... And one of these would change everything:
  11. Who cares? Someone picks their first ever day to ski a mountain and they go on a holiday weekend after it's been 60 degrees with heavy rain and fog? Hahahaha! Any state or county owned ski area will have inferior snowmaking, so it's just stupid to expect a lot after RECORD warm weather. BTW, I just got back after skiing the last two hours of the night and they are hitting Boomer and WL very hard with the Areco-type guns. 12 quick runs and I hardly saw another person on Cannonball or Smoke. But thanks for the lousy review (we hate lift lines) and enjoy the rest of the season lined up with the masses and bus loads. Just FYI, Montage has only lost money once in the last seven years. That was the year that all the Poconos were hit with 60's and rain during XMas week. Just because a business doesn't turn a huge profit doesn't mean there are financial problems. The county ownership is more than happy with breaking even each year. Now, imagine CB or Blue happy with just breaking even. They'd stop advertising as much and give less discounts, so skier visits would drop off. Instead of 8,000 people on a Saturday afternoon, there would only be 4,500. Now, don't you wish CB and Blue were in that situation? And snow quality? CB, Blue, Elk and all the rest have much worse snow quality after noon just about every day of the season. It's okay to trash Montage...it's a little silly...but trash away.

    Wind & Lifts

Montage has a sign near the ski school meeting place that says foul language is forbidden. It was pointed out to me by an instructor while I was waiting for Glenn who was in a 2 person, 30 minute lift ticket line. I thought I was using the F word quietly...

    ? about sintered bases

It's all about the quality of the wheel of cheese. The best WC racers get the best part of the best "wheel". True race stock should be sintered, so I'm assuming these 11's are, but it's much more important in speed events. You know, I actually asked two guys from so-called super high end race shops in Park City last summer whether race stock (as opposed to WC stock) have sintered bases and I got two different answers.

Consider this, though: it's just a matter of hours before Bode wakes up and skis in one of the most historic races of the season...imagine the incredible pressure, as Raich has opened a big lead and Bode hasn't had a win since leaving American snow this year. Bode will have bib #27 tomorrow...he'll be in the start house right behind Hermann Maier. Rahlves and all of the other favorites will already be down in the finish area. The course will have some ruts and will have slowed just a little, but Bode will have excellent course reports to work with. It's still dark in Wengen, Switzerland, but the alpenglow has begun and course workers are already making their way toward the slopes... Bode didn't party last night. He knows this is his shot at getting back on top of the world.

Schopy seems pretty classy. And it also seems like Bode really hurt his feelings when he announced the rest of the team was lame for going along with the drug testing. Bode and Schlopy were roomates last year, before Bode bought the bus. Now Bode never trains with the technical team and Schlopy says he hasn't even spoken to Bode in over a year.
  21. Bode was DQ'd in today's slalom portion on the Supercombined at Wengen, after straddling a gate on the lower part of the course. Austrian Benjamin Raich won the race, increasing his lead over Miller in the Overall World Cup standings to 217 points. Bode drops into a tie for third in those standings. Seems like Bode had the race all but locked up, but his ski passed directly over the flattened gate... Bummer.
  22. I bet your day would turn lousy if I said yes
  23. C'mon, Phil, be nice. You get 30 days in, yet?
