Elk is 26 miles from me, while Big Bear is 24...but the last eight miles of roads to Big Bear are 25mph. Try a Mapquest from Lake Harmony---or wherever to Masthope. It's shows up as 67 miles. If you take the back roads to where 715 crosses over 380 (I believe it's 715---the Tobyhanna exit) you are exactly 45 miles from Big Bear. BB is about 70 miles of highway to Elk...

You can even just use a rub on wax...just make sure to get them coated to avoid oxidation. Rub some on the metal edges, as well, to avoid rust. And if you can remember to put them back to their original setting before skiing, it doesn't hurt to relax the binding springs by setting them back to their weaket setting.

The P-Tex I use has a melting point of 275 degrees. I think it's pretty standard. If you use a glue gun, it has to be the kind that gets really hot. I ruined a couple of cheap ones...

Ha, not quite, but for just a little more bat speed? We wouldn't have had a second thought.

Scary thing is, 'Mom, that I'd have taken them IN A MINUTE if they'd been available to us in college. As would most of the guys on my teams.

As I said in the first line in my rant: parents need to be the role models. But you're kidding about steroids, right? If steroids were legal, then all records in all sports would be wiped out. Ever see any old Olympic footage of Eastern Block countries? The women had 5 o'clock shadows and were cut like Schwarztenagger because of steroids. You just wouldn't have real sports anymore; everything would be like professional wrestling and athletes would be dropping dead at 45. And if Bode wants to light a water bong after every race, I couldn't care less. After many, many years of thoughtful testing, I can assure you that they just haven't come up with a performance enhancing MJ, so pot sure as hell isn't cheating. Right or wrong, it is, however, against US Federal law and against the laws of most countries where the FIS stops. But, IMO, doing shots the night before a big race doesn't belong on a show geared for kids.
-
Yeah, they changed it up since I'd last seen it. Cool perspective from the Rainer interview when he talks about Bode.

Ha, that's one of the really bad signs I look for when covering a frat party.

Hey, 'Mom! Pictures yet???? Yeah, the rotary brushes have been around for a long time. You can even cork fluoro with them.

Welcome to the board, Doug! We'll be opening Belleayre again this season...hopefully soone than later.

The problem with extended forecasts beyond 5 days is that they start taking into account average temps for those days. If you see a forecast for 11/21/05 right now, it'll mostly just be what the annual average is for that day.

The MC parks are also #1 in the country in police calls for fights. Wait 20 minutes for your turn...drop in...do a hit...punch someone for getting out of turn...wait 20 more minutes for a hit... You PA park guys would be in a sh*tty mood like PAsucks, too...give the flamer a little love, he doesn't get it at home.

Most tools (but not all) are marked 1 degree, 2, 3, 4, etc...so, yeah, when people say 93, it is actually 87...I have a set of file guides marked 90, 91, 92, 93. They are 'wrong' and you are correct, though. EDIT: My one bevel set is from Sun Valley Ski Tools (one of the more popular tuning companies). They mark their guides on the inside angle, so if you want an 87 degree side edge, you'd use the 93 degree tool. Confusing, but both are correct. Maybe that's why using the single numbers is how most ski manufacturers make their recomendations, like Atomic's 1 and 3 degree... Here's how they list their tools in the Race Place catalogue: 0

It's like casinos and yardsales...the more you put together, the more people come. There's no real worry about saturation with 5 kabillion people living in nearby NY and Philly.

I've been watching the long range for Waitsfield, VT, (Sugarbush), which is an hour north of KMart, and even they are warm for the next 10 days.

Although that is one HELL of a good looking grass run.

If they were for your wall, then I'd had def tried to grab an unmounted set. I guess you could always swap the Marker's. Interesting find. I still don't see where they are dampened much, though.
-
Doesn't sound like montageskier is going to be buying a set The "overall soft flex" seems like the major issue to me, Phil. Tip to tail dampening? Just from poking around their site, it seems like these might be like wearing vibrators on your feet in eastern conditions. I'd demo a set for sure---I like to screw around on different skis, but they look more like the Atomic Balanze...how about buying a set of reconditoned 173's and passing them around?

That completely misses the point. Look at, for example, something as simple as Camelback's brochure if you happen to have one laying around and check the page called "Feels Like Freedom". I'm not terribly interested in arguing the point, but I'm telling you an awesome movie 'could' be done anywhere. Saying that everything done locally has sucked isn't a measure of what is possible. We made a video at Big Boulder almost 10 years ago with a camera strapped to my boot top. I was just screwing around with my GF at the time. I did a photo essay at a small place called Mt. Tom and got some greats shot with a fisheye lens in the trough of a mogul, shooting up at guys catching air. I know it's not what you meant, but one of the classic Warren Miller segments was done on an icy bunny hill, btw.
-
Well, yeah, all the stuff they 'could' have done on Jackass when they went boarding...that's one for sure. And it's not to make just a goof video, but it would wrap around other serious stuff---like older WM films.

I guess they went up to $45 for this year. There's two that are really cheap and close: http://catskillhighpeaks.com/lodging/Motels-Efficiencies.php
