"Top alpinists these days work toward first descents of pitches in the low to mid-60 degrees. Steeper than that and it?s pretty much a freefall. In fact, snow?s ?angle of repose,? where snow can no longer stick to the slope, is at around 75 degrees." from: http://www.sportsguidemag.com/archive/Jan0...res-chuteme.asp Mont Blanc, Grand Teton, and Ski Denton. I wish it were true.

East Coast hurricane season is better than So. Cal's 62 degree, four deep lineup crap any day. Don't be dissin' our muddy water, Jeff. And our house is practically IN Barnagate Bay.

A lot of USSA race teams will jump onto the NASTAR course at some point in the day, without having official times recorded, since they aren't paying the $5. The CAT team at CB has always done it, as does Shawnee and Montage.

Ha, my race skis have been waxed and stored. I have rock skis for just about every evil surface, including rock quarries.

Shawnee to stay open until the 27th - at least!

No, def. not 40 days at BB, either. My input was just that I can't put aside vert and pitch and buy a season pass, yet BC can still get hordes of skiers/riders into the terrain park. I never understood why CB has yet to set aside a small portion of their obscene profits and invested in a gnarly terrain park. MC is an example of a small ski area sometimes loses control in it's parks. People getting punched for dropping in out of turn? Not really a big deal, but it created a rep. BC, on the other hand, seems to do pretty well at keeping a family atmosphere and yet throwing money at the park. Hidden Valley, NJ, does that, too. The CB board of Directors is so conservative that they need to see it working at other areas first, before they risk their family dollars. One quick majority vote at a board meeting and CB would have everything MC has by December. They are just too scared of blowing their easy $100,000 annual paycheck. -

Still tough to get around that "so little" part. The lack of needed vertical to have a good terrain park really levels the playing field. That's why MC can compete with Stratton, or any other place in VT. But skiing 40 or 50 days on a season pass at BC would be torture. The females employees would have to do a lot more than smile and say hello. -
Is any of this Delaware rain snow in the Poconos?

Yeah, I was thinking of something like that. Skimom uses one for horseback riding. I just never thought I'd be night ski poaching. Why hasn't anyone used a driver and done laps at CB? And with headlamps and a car ride to the top, CB would be a great place to trespass for grass skiing. Meadows would probably be a great slope and easy escape access. -
It's starting to look good for Friday, eh? And come take a run with us Cpt. Mike...first one to lose his ticket wins a prize.

I rag on Shawnee a lot, but they have some decent runs. Coming down skier's right (the left side of the mountain) has a run with okay pitch toward the bottom. And Lower Tecumseh (sp?) is a bump run that is kind of short and steep, right before you hit the lift. Shawnee kind of skis like Big Boulder. It's a WASTE of time when they only open the Pennsylvania trail during early season and it has 1000 people on it. But spring skiing at Shawnee doesn't suck. -

It's crazy up here. We had to use a fire road entrance to get into our community because all the roads are closed because of crashes. I had to 4-wheel across a field at one point. We just have eight inches, but it's like nobody believed it was coming. I hiked for six runs at our ski hill, but have to figure out a lighting system when it's overcast---like a headlamp, I guess. Not much chance my soccer game isn't cancelled tomorrow at East Stroudsburg. Lots of hiking tomorrow, although Elk is getting tons of snow. -
Last year's Overall National Champion was from Montage. She smoked everyone in Sunday's Race of Champions to win easily. She was just four year's old, btw.

"BTW, Zonked, Greg and Jeff are lying bastards. I don't really have any children at all and, well, I'm still in mourning over my late wife." BTW is just a young widower's way of saying 'by the way'..."By the way, Zonked, Jeff and Greg are lying bastards."
-
Not you, Zonked...I'd never call you a lying bastard even if you were. Not saying you ever would be. And, well, by definition you couldn't be a bastard if you tried.

Nah, just some kid I was following around for a while. And, yeah, it's really hard to give away guns. I still don't understand why my dad gave them to me. In the first place, he KNOWS me.

I have a .22! I think Zonked has just offered another PASR summer day. BTW, Zonked, Greg and Jeff are lying bastards. I don't really have any children at all and, well, I'm still in mourning over my late wife.

You'll have to do a quick round on our golf course so I can let some of my friends know whether they should bother to bring their clubs when they visit.
-
Dunno, never had a party there. But when I have groups of people up, we end up at the lake beach and pools. The beach is free to our guests and the pool is $2, or so. Come to think of it, after a long day of grass skiing, I usually head to the lake.

Our ski lodge can be rented by community members during the summer for parties, etc...
-
Yep. I have two left.
-
If it's not pouring, I'll be there Friday.

NASTAR is about money. USSA is about learning. ASRA is about fun. FIS is about fame and chicks. Just my 2 cents.

Hey, Dthmtl, I was looking for you at CB today. I thought you were always there... As far as qualifying, anyone can go to NASTAR Nationals if they've raced in a single race then call or email NASTAR and request a discretionary spot. NASTAR does not turn away entry fees. Firstly, waist steering is not taught by any national teams. What I get out of his long rambles is that it's the opposite of counter rotation. Counter rotation is when you are at the gate, your upper body is turned away from the gate, as if you are giving it a hip check. 'Dude might call it "waving to the woods." Waist steering is is the movement of the hips through the turn. I'm waiting to hear Dranow explain how it's more just one of many methods a racer needs. It seems to work for Dranow on basic NASTAR courses, but fell apart for him during Masters races.

Elk's getting a foot of snow tomorrow, Schif...CB will be a mix, with mostly rain.
