Ha, I def choose where I ski from a bunch of haters. Didn't you know that BB's jumps have more vert than White Lightning? Rob (papasteeze) will be the first to tell you how terrible Sno is...not that he's skied there a single day. He just has 300 teenage myspace friends from BC and BB who tell him how terrible Sno is....not that they've been to Sno, either. If your thing is to ski a 200 vert park crammed with a shitload of newbies and gapers, def head to BC. And they might even have some snow left by next weekend.

Great that you stopped by, Ashleigh. Any chance CB will run a late season special for passholders from other mountains?

IDK, PARR, it sounds like you had great snow and an awesome time and I'm not just busting your nads, but I'm not sure they'll be requesting those shots for next year's brochure...is that a garbage can in the second pic?

Rob, it's just like how you bitched about how you knew more about racing technique than the CB USSA coaches. Look how far it got you by kneeling down in front of Gary Dranow? Your kid didn't trust his CAT team coaches because of you, fell behind the other top racers, then quit in frustration. Although it was a great relief to them to see you go. At some point you need to realize other people know more than you. Narcissism is a tough illness, but there are medications. Ski Head gave you some technical and some logical reasons why skiing hunched over backwards isn't the best way to teach kids. I imagine he's taught over 5,000 kids to ski, while you've taught two--and one has already quit. As for me, I've taught a few hundred. And it is a fact that skiing a shorter ski makes it easier. And, yes, there is something magical for a kid using a leash. The adult is turning the kid's hips, which, hey, just happens to be the basis for your buddy Dranow's entire waist steering business. Go figure that the one time his thesis is useful, he has you to say it's bullshit. Hahahahaha! Now, it's completely fine for any parent to go out and teach their kid by skiing backwards on long twin tips. Hey, it's a parent out teaching their kid to ski! Woo Hoo! They'll struggle and it's certainly doing it the hard way, but the important thing is that they are doing it. But Poc is family here and he asked for the best way. And he was lucky enough to get some advice from the someone who I consider to be one of the best technical skiers I've ever met.

Hahahahaha! I'm way too old for you. But thanks.

Go away, Rob. I had twin tips in the '70's. You sucked at racing and now "all you know" is filming preteen boys. And 5'9" Rob? You sure about that? Eh, sorry to drag this down Poc and skiHead... I couldn't say it better. Uh, didn't I see a tiny little grom of yours doing a gnarly face plant on a diamond Sunday? But he got up

I've seen a few patrol jackets sold on eBay. I thought you just had to have a PayPal account to be a patroller.

Heheheheh...we have to race over snowmobile tracks all the time.

Girl v. ski area. The argument is likely that she was allowed to be in the park, was competent to ski down the run, and--most importantly--a case can be made that she was the downhill skier with the right away. Was there a spotter? Was the spotter asleep? What Canadian resort officials have been looking at is could the accident have been avoided and by what means. Letting a newbie into a park is like inviting a 3 year old to play in your swimming pool. The less ability to care for themselves, the greater the owner's responsibility to keep them safe. In the video, you just have to assume a newbie is going to turn five feet to her right and end up in the path of the jumper...just like you have to assume a little kid is going to fall into the deep end. It's park passes, or we all are going to end up paying $125 for a lift ticket to cover the insurance premiums.
-
At least they were going pretty much in the same direction which mitigated some of the impact---and probably lucky that a lot of park skiers have lousy edges. Unfortunately, the girl has pretty good grounds for a lawsuit against the ski area from that video. Melissa would better to describe the proportional responsibility. Great video, though---and great sound.

I had Kastle 213cm Super G skis, 201cm GS skis, and my Rossi 4S slalom skis were 193cm. High end 155cm slalom skis hold an edge better than older skis that were 40cm longer. No need to fear short skis. Now, I'm NOT suggesting an entry level or even intermediate short ski, which will be floppy and make you miserable at speed. But the ski that ski Head suggested, or a recreational slalom race ski will hold at 40mph.
-
Ha, with large radius skis, it's difficult to make small radius turns; with short radius skis, you can make any size turns. You spent too much time with Jeffy. I think Poc's priority is to be able to maneuver around with a little one.
-
I ski on 155's and 157's every day. Slalom skis are a blast, besides being useful. Poc, this is the horse's mouth speaking.

When you start having kids, you'll leash 'em. Some parents are idiots with leashes just like some snowboards are idiots and some jibbers and racers are idiots. But if it helps a kid ski better in a shorter amount of time (when done correctly), then it's a great tool. Green circles should be filled with 3 yr. kids on leashes.
-
Before Rob comments that you should naturally be in the rear, I'll do it. Sorry, Doug, but I had to ruin it for him.
-
Just to add, Poc, I wouldn't sacrifice buying a good all-mountain ski for twin tips just to ski backwards. All skis are now twin tips, most just to a lesser degree, so the occasional times you are skiing backwards isn't an issue. My point, though, is that you shouldn't be spending much time hunched over skiing backwards. The best way to teach little ones is with tip clips and a leash. The tip clips keep the skis in a pizza and the leash will keep them speed checked and, more importantly, will teach the child turning motions. A good leash turns the child at the hips, btw. And skiing behind a kid also creates a shield, especially important because you'll be on newbie terrain. I'd also recommend something much shorter than 175cm...I'd go with a soft flexing slalom ski. Maybe something like the Atomic SL:9 in 160cm. The short ski will make it easier to skate without poles and navigate lift lines. The trickiest part for a parent is a narrow, busy lift line and those last few yards up to where you actually catch th chair.

How do expect to feed your monkey?

CB isn't necessarily marketing to Russians. Russians are now Pocono locals. Our community has a huge Russian population, as do the other private communities in the area. Once you get over seeing 80 yr old grandmas changing in and out of their bathing suits at the pool a few times (back down, Glenn, I said 80 yr old, not 70 yr old ), they have turned out to be great neighbors (and mostly really, really bad skiers).

I'm the worst person on PASR to discuss floating skis. My skis are purposely narrow under foot. But in PA, most big snowfalls come late in the season as Nor'Easters and--by definition--have a lot of Atlantic moisture. I've seen boarders having a great time surfing wet snow, but I just sink in it. I spent all day Saturday in a pizza wedge slipping snow off the race course. Natural snow is a pain in the butt. And, yes, I recognize the heresy of that on a ski/ride MB.

Doug, you're gonna be tired at work.

Hey, Poc, Atomic and a few others make 70cm skis. And def have a look at the Apple Rise training system---it will make your life soooo much easier, especially with the Kiddie Lift and tip clips. If you are comfortable on eBay, that's the way to go for kid's gear. Off season, you'll pay under $100 delivered for mounted skis which you can turn around and sell for $100 at the end of next year. Boots for really little ones are easy, too, and usually under $35. Anyway, here's a good chart that includes kids shoe sizing: Boot sizing
