Yeah and I guess we rode the same lift as you, Line. The only thing that would build a line was someone falling out of a chair, or one of the Philly bus groups converging. That one girl organizing the lines didn't really seem to have her heart in it. That's as bad as it's gotten all year and there was even a scholastic race on Switch until 11:30.

Look at Atomic working hard trying to weasel free Montage tickets out of me!
-
Ha, you were there to harass him during training?
-
It would have been a very bad day...almost a humiliating day to have been on the same course as Skimom today. Props to 'Mom for smoking the CB NASTAR...I'd guess that was a personal best on that course? 'Dude better watch out!

That's just it, Ski911. Those few dopes make them all look bad. Same thing as doing naked human pyramids in foreign prisons (although I thought it was wicked funny). But this MB administration has given us a chance to speak out with being threatened/banned/beaten... Sorry if we've been harsh on friends of your's, but it's the bad Rangers that are the cause of ill will.

I dunno, Sib...power tripping police wannabees hanging around and giving teen boys a "hard" time? Sounds a little Village People-ish to me.
-
There are suggestion boxes? Hmmmm...so maybe a few years ago someone suggested they run the lifts really slow? And we just let this sh*t happen all this time?
-
And I really don't want to argue with you, Ski911. I was a paying customer for a very long time and I was right and the Rangers I encountered were wrong. The Blue patrol that pulled Atomic, Think, and me over last season was right to do so. We were skiing fast in a slow zone. Plus, the guy was NICE. He should be sought out and hired to teach CB Rangers how to deal with patrons. A CB Ranger that follows me to the lift on a Monday night and gives me crap for skiing Cliffhanger at a "speed beyond your skill level" is a f*cking moron.
-
True, true. But what do you say about Rangers that show disrespect to an ADULT skier? Isn't that worse? I mean, you might expect a kid to disrespect authority...like that hasn't happened forever. But I've had 1/2 dozen crappy encounters with Rangers for skiing fast on empty black diamonds. And it's not that they approached me, but it's the f*ing attitude that they approached me with. And what's with how they give CAT kids a hard time? What is the purpose behind creating anymosity between themselves and the race team that represents the mountain? Until CB gets a handle on and calms down some of their d*ckheaded Rangers, showing them any respect is like bending over in the locker room shower.

Wonder how long they'll be looking for Tanner...

And say your on a back road, cruising along at 60mph and the one good one goes out...you better hope it's a full moon.

Snowtime said they would take it over at a "reasonable price". That was the quote. Roundtop and Windham are both run really well and invest a lot in lifts and snowmaking. Of course the Lackawnna board members had to throw in that the new owner would guarantee to stay open for at least 10 years and that they would rehire all current employees. That's cool for the current employees and for people that ski here, but not an attractive adendum to have to sign for the buyer. Since I usually hang on the North Face, I don't mind the slow lifts. But when I'm doing NASTAR on Switch, the lift drives you nuts. I rode up with boarders twice this morning and that's all they talked about...that they were from Blue and really like Montage, but would never board here regularly because it takes too long to get up the hill. I don't want crowds, but want to make sure they stay open...
-
Anyone from the board leave on a patrol sled? All ski areas should have a lift that runs right over the terrain park. The best crash was around 1pm, with the victim hauled off in a sled. A great mix of guys going off big and girls in big earrings and lots of lipstick.

Hahahahaha!!! And you don't legally have to pull over for an unmarked police car...you are allowed to continue on to a police station, or pull over and request he radio for a marked car, even if he's in full uniform. But they'll still pull you out of your car and beat the sh*t out of you. You are 100% right about what they are supposed to do, Ski911. But just try dissing them if you are a 15-year-old kid.
-
Sorry to hear, Missy...but you look forward from today on. Get your dates down...like for surgery, then rehab, then set a goal. Coming back from an injury is part of the journey. On the bright side, this has been one of the most screwed up PARA race seasons ever.

Ski Denton is only 11 miles from Sweden.

Mmmmmm, the heavily pierced Ranger chick.

I found the Ski Mag article from Jan. '02 called "How Steep is Steep?" "Most serious steep-hounds don't really get interested until the pitch goes over 45 degrees. The limit? Top alpinists these days are working pitches in the low to mid-60 degrees, but on anything else much steeper, it becomes very difficult to maintain your ski's contact with the snow. In fact, snow's "angle of repose", the greatest tilt at which snow can stick to the slope, is, at most 75 degrees." The most notoriusly steep slope in the US is Corbet's Couloir at Jackson Hole. You have to jump into the vertical entrance, then land in an amazingly steep 50 degree spot and try to catch enough edge to load up the ski and release it, hoping it'll help force another turn. I think Sib probably heard my Corbet's story a half dozen times. We all stood around the horseshoe opening, freaking out, worried about going first as much as going last. It's hard to just stand there and look over the edge. Here again is the Ski Denton description of it's slope: "Avalanche Expert Steepest in the East! At 66 degrees, you can't find a more exciting run. Don't even think about it if you don't fit into the criteria warning sign at the top." So Ski Denton claims having a 66 degree slope that even Jeremy Nobis, Glen Plake, and Dean Cummings would have trouble just jump turning down, as they'd have to stop and lean against the headwall, while battling the forces of gravity... Sort of like DaveK coming home and announcing he'd eaten only three Big Macs.

I'm 100% certain you are not required to give any statements regarding snow conditions, unless it involves an accident you witnessed. Even in that case, you don't have to speak with either Rangers or police, as this being America you may speak through an attorney. It would open Camelback to civil litigation the moment they required someone-- by threat of loss of services (ie ticket clipping)-- to give a statement that could lead them into becoming a witness to a lawsuit. Seriously, Rangers are asking for "expert witness" information, for which I would NEVER do for free. If they threaten to clip your ticket, then I'd see it as an act of coercion, which makes any testimony useless from you. CB can't put you under duress or undue influence in order to have your information valid in court. If a Ranger ever tells you he'll clip your ticket if you don't comply with a request for information, I'd suggest you get as many of your buds to hear him say it and tell him you'd like to see that threat in writing. Chances are pretty good that if you felt "shaken and in fear" and couldn't go to school for a week or two, that you'd get the price of a car out of it and he'd be back at the mall with his nightstick.

It is, btw, Ski Denton's official claim, not Sib's: From their website at http://www.skidenton.com : Avalanche Expert Steepest in the East! At 66 degrees, you can't find a more exciting run. Don't even think about it if you don't fit into the criteria warning sign at the top.

Ticket prices at CB go up at the maximum rate that demand allows. They would just love everyone to believe that staving off a lawsuit by becoming a witness helps keep ticket prices "lower". But in reality, it just keeps profits higher and ensures the Board's annual $100k. If Rangers weren't dicks, then I'd be happy to make their little volunteer day better. Skiing there the other day, we hit the line a couple of times with the same Ranger who took it upon himself to direct the Sullivan chair line. I'm chatting away with my kid, moving forward exactly the way I've been doing it forever, and he barks at us about something I really didn't want to try and understand. Then he rides up with us and complains about the "idiot" lift attendants and stupid people in line. My kid asked if she could lift the bar and give him a shove.
-
You do NOT have to give them any help or information, UNLESS you were involved in the accident. There's no legal obligation for you to help them stave off a lawsuit or become witness to something that wasn't a criminal act. You paid to enjoy your time at the mountain, not be embroiled in the possible negligence of Camelback. "Besa mi culo," is a simple phrase appropriate for most Ranger interview requests.

About 3 hrs. west of Montage, if I remember correctly. The best thing about the place is the ski in/out cabins you can rent for only $100/night. And it's one of the few courses you can just stand at the bottom and see every gate, since it's steep and ends right where they set up barbeque grills and kegs.

That was an amazingly steep trail. It took out some great skiers. White Lightning is 1800 feet long, so I'm guessing the headwall is about 1100 feet. The top of Avalanche comes to a point and it was narrow down to where is started to flatten out. Sort of like a witch's hat. From memory, I don't recall the Avalanche headwall to be much more than football field long---300 feet, or so? If there's snow built up on the left side of Asp, I'd equate that slalom run to be like a race down Asp. My basis for judging steepness is how hard it is to come to a stop after I fall. I'll tell you, though, it would be an awesome Chinese downhill to start from the top of the lift, down White Lightning, with the finish being the SLOW sign. We'd get to see an airlift if they could land a chopper down there.

DaveK wrote me that I would not be welcome at Camelback if I ever posted another negative comments. That was 8,226 negative comments ago. Plus, there were all those gross pics from the Yahoo Club that I made about him and CB...and I deflated his car tires...and I stiffed his mom at the message parlor. But I was a paying customer.
