And the Weather Channel's ski report lists Shawnee as a 11/26 opening. Ski areas just try to stir some hype. It was 50 today in the Northern Poconos. The 10 day forecast show a total of about 20 hours of snowmaking time between now and 11/26. And just about the same amount of hours of 50+ temps. The NY ski areas that put down a base and were open last weekend won't be hurt much by temps in the 40's, but they won't have much of a chance to make more snow in coming days.

Shawnee won't be open either. It takes exceptionally cold early temps for them to get to work. Just not happening.

Bears rip up our garbage once a month, or so. When they get an idea that they want what's inside, it doesn't matter what kind of container. And it's become habit to open the door slowly to let my stupid dog out at night. The black bears just look like a shadow with eyes. Last week a skunk got him. I would have prefered a bear.

CB would call police and have you arrested for trespassing, according to their marketing department. Not sure if it's DaveK's reaction to the liabilty risk or the thought of such physical activity that makes his donut stuffed body cringe and dial 911.

In most years, Killington is just fine in April. I've skied there as late at June 1... You can get a pretty good idea by mid-winter how the spring skiing will be. We closed Elk on March 27th last year and they could have easily held out in to April; Montage finished March 14th with a dozen trails covered edge to edge.

Okay...here's one for you to think about, 'Dude...

The good thing about freeskiing days are that you and I, Jeff, ski a similar pace and can have a blast just looking for some open spaces and trade off who makes it to the lift first. On a race course, though, the 'Dude EASILY has me by 5 Nastar handicap points. And when you talk about handicaps in the teens, 5 is a lot.

I don't really mean to stick up for the little 'Dude, it's just that I'm blown away by how good he is. If he doesn't screw up, he'll be top 30 in PA this race season. But if he enters any late season ASRA races, I'll be doing my best to psych him out, beat him and then make fun of him afterwards.

Scaring people is fun! But no thanks to pics with him. I've been humbled enough in my life by my ex-CAT.

The little 'Dude's crazy good these days.

We were at Hermosa Springs this summer and my kid said they looked like the dog they found drowned in our lake, "kinda fat and all puffy".

So when I went over to that MB, I noticed another thread... Seems Camelback Ski Area is renting out boots that cause ingrown toenails, athletes foot, and "etc"... And just what the Hell is the "etc"? Do you have to pay extra for non-disease ridden rental boots? It doesn't say on their web site...

It was some of the Blue staff that was telling people that they were making snow with plans to keep lifts running until April-something last season. And then they just closed.

With my rag top, I can either use a rack that comes up from the hitch; use a cage that goes over the roof and has a basket on top; or, unzip the back window. I just unzip the window--- the tails of the skis are where a rear passenger's feet would be, with the tips sticking out. I cover the tips if it's bad weather. No, Jeeps aren't ideal for carrying much of anything. I have a trailer for carting mulch and any home projects.

Hmmmm...NY isn't New England.

It's the new calendar. April was shortened a week and they spread the days out. Jeez, where have you been?

June that worked in Hunter's marketing department back when I did my Instructor Training Course renewal at Hunter. Not a PA person that I recall. There are some cool locals, but any good things are blown away by the countless idiots. If you doubt me, just go stand at the top of Hellgate on any Saturday. It would be great Warren Miller footage. I know Skimom has had some good deals and experiences there, but I cringe when I hear she and the little 'Dude are headed that way.
