  1. It's a problem you might notice when you ski with a little kid and you have to help them up onto the chair. We had a problem on the Meadows lift last year at CB...that chair bangs you hard if it's not caught. I've had lifties take the night off at the lifts that run over Raceway and the one over Main St. at Blue. No big deal because I wasn't with Ty, but I notice it because I've had years and years of skiing with a kid.
  2. To clarify, I meant why should anyone be an asshole for the sake of being an asshole. It might have sounded like I was calling you one. I wasn't.
  3. Why be an asshole, track? I've been to BB this year and wrote a bunch of TR from my trips to BB last year. All my TR regarding BB last year were positive. I've been a passholder at Elk one season (skied there off and on for three decades) and a passholder at CB for somewhere around 20 years---nothing CB does can fix why I don't ski there; I don't ski there because of the crowds. I've skied Blue more than a hundred times; Shawnee maybe 200. I've skied BC with Jeffy and even Rob. I saw the lodge, hotel, and park---all three things I don't really care about. I wrote a Gannett News Service weekly column on skiing in PA. In one season, I skied at every ski area in Pennsylvania, except, ironically, the one I now am current part owner of (The Hideout Ski Hill). As a father of a USSA racer, we made the circuit around PA, with races at Seven Springs, Blue, Denton, Elk, Sawmill, BB, JF, and a number of others. As an ASRA racer, I had a chance to race at Roundtop, Liberty, Tanglwood, and a bunch of other places. I've also worked at a ski area in Southern Vermont and in the Catskills. So you think I'm not qualified to compare Sno to other PA ski areas?

Ha, I was just kidding. They burned a new copy of a dvd, but it wouldn't play. See you tonight!
  5. You're asking me? I think Glenn summoned it up pretty good...and we do have a version of Hooters; they're called Yuengling Girls, I guess. But I try not to notice those things. We have the best snow in PA and empty slopes. Sno has a great collection of steep, medium length (for PA) headwalls that are as much fun as anything in PA. They need to finish switching out the lighting, but the light on the race course is really the only one that's critical to me. IMO, they've done enough. Keep the NF in this kind of condition every year and they'll have a loyal following of the more family oriented, but somewhat hardcore skiers and riders. As to the park, I think Sno should just ask it's park crew what they want for rails and hits. Who knows, maybe that's what they do. But just build whatever the hell they want and screw the Beavis & Butthead MB trolls. When I help set a race course, the guy with the drill is always asking me "How's the flow look?" And I always tell him to just set the freaking course however he wants---we'll deal with having to make the turns. Sorry, track, I don't have anything new for ya.

Oh, and just to add, the guns started on Spike around 6pm, then down on Lower Runaway and Lower Fast Track by 6:30pm. Looked like they were getting ready to hit the mountain hard tonight.
  7. Race trails at ski areas with small vert build ramps. Buck Hill in Minnesota is just 300 vert, so they built a 35 ft tall platform out of wood. Racers reach full speed pretty much at the first gate. When I worked at Mount Tom, we built a 40 ft ramp entirely out of snow just to add some fun to the season ending beer league races. Why can't they just build a ramp for a pipe?
  8. Ha, don't ever feel bad about having lots of energy. Ultimate Frisbee by any chance? Just don't say it's golf...
  9. I just put 30% down on three ski in/out townhouses on White Lightning's in-run. Pre-build is $210sq/ft, which is expected to go to nearly $310 by completion. That's a 1/4 million profit on each unit. I'm pretty sure the first phase sold out in two days. I can't believe you missed out, Rob.
  10. Huh? Did you misunderstand my post, Dan? I wasn't saying to get rid of racing or parks. I was saying that people can come up with lots of negative things about them, but that's not a reason to get rid of either---like they are now doing to parks in parts of Canada. Yeah, yeah, yeah, when you can't find your Velcro park pass just remember back to posts like that

Ty and I rolled into the lot around 4:15pm and the right side was about 1/4 filled with cars from New Yawk and two buses. The snow was surprisingly good...we started with a run down Switch, then a few down Whistler. Powder on cord. We saw Mike P. and said wazzup at the top of Shuttle. He was skiing with a breezy who turned out to be his sister. As a matter of fact---we met up down at the lodge where Ty needed to throw some money into the video games---and I met Mike's mom, Lucy. She's a lot nicer than my mom (just kidding, Mom). At 6pm, we headed up to the upper ski patrol building to watch a smartstyle video and get our Velcro park pass that JordanA thinks is silly. Nick and Santa were in the house, along with a dozen kids. Ty and I were by far the oldest and youngest in the room. I didn't bring my reading glasses, so Ty had to tell me what the forms said. Getting old is pretty fucked. Nick was nice enough to loan me a pen and we were all set to share some popcorn and watch a cool video, but some dude names Sean---is the world now run by kids named Sean?---wasn't sure how to plug the dvd player into the wall, so he kicked us all out. I'm trying to figure out how to Velcro these papers to our wrists. Maybe JordanA was right. So we headed out for a few more runs down Whistler, then headed down for two runs down Lower Runaway. Great snow down there, for sure, especially with the number of skiers/boarders. An awesome night...now for that eclipse!
  12. Llama - the other dark meat. After you get done ridin' your llama, be sure to head on over to Bob's butchering center. As guests of Jersey Bob's Llama Ranch
  13. Ha, no prob, DOUG got owned by jdew (as long as winds stay under 8mph).
  14. Ha, CB is on the comeback trail...you Blue boys were just owned by jdew As long as winds stay under 8mph, CB's gonna win some hearts back.
  15. So, dish it out...is your dad a psychiatrist? Hair implants? You wouldn't get one? I'm just gonna skip the video and swipe JordanA's... Even if you may never use it, I'd just want one to have the option to go anywhere on the mountain.
  16. If you can't work Velcro, then maybe it's time for you to just go to Creek where there's something you can figure out.
  17. That's sort of why 99% of what's been posted here is nothing but weak speculation. Does anyone on here read the deal Sno has with the existing hotels just down the road? Jeez, Sno gets hammered for building a superpipe to hold an event and what a bunch of idiots we sound like to nit pick and bitch that they are doing it. Some people on here sound like it's their own money being spent. And, btw, Sno isn't spending a million dollars on the pipe. That was just hyperbole. And Spike was the first slope to get the changeover in lights, yet it's still a point to bitch about? I can give you a hundred reasons why no ski area should have a race team, including all the 'wasted' manpower and lack of profit. And I can list the same number of reasons why all rails and jumps should be removed, like they are at some Canadian resorts. Because you can come up with a few negative points about a project suddenly makes it a bad project? Shit, nothing would ever get done if that were the case. Has anyone read Sno's business plan and seen where and when real estate development is slated to begin? Sno has more acreage for real estate development than CB. I'm not saying it's a great plan or a bad plan, I'm just saying we don't know. Some of you people sound like the 80 year old men sitting around a Dunkin' Donuts all day complaining about their tax bills and why kids today don't pull up their pants.
  18. Kind of funny how I've been fighting people by supporting Sno's investment in a superpipe while hating on the best American male ski racer. Things have gotten weird.
  19. It's "their" park, Rob. "Thier" still isn't a word.

    Sno pipe

You also create a heat problem digging. At depths below four feet, the temp of the dirt is a constant 50 to 55 degrees F year 'round. Now, the top of the base of the pipe becomes the surface, but it's then surrounded by trapped heat trying to radiate upward and outward.
  21. IDK, the guy just wants a couple of bucks for some comps. It would seem pretty sleazy to me for a ski area to give out comps then try to police what happens afterwards. Feel free to bust people in the lot who clip their used tickets and resell them, but getting uptight about comps is lame IMO. I don't know a whole lot about it, JP, but ski areas give out donations? I've never heard of that. I know group leaders who can gather a certain minimum of people get freebies, but they've certainly earned a comp and should have the right to sell it for a few bucks. Just my opinion.
  22. Yeah, that may very well be exactly what happened. But what if Sno had announced at the beginning of the season that they were waiting until next season to excavate dirt for a superpipe and were going to just rely on moving PoleCats from two other trails to blow enough snow this year? If they said it up front, would that have relieved all these people from worrying about how Sno is spending their money? Absolutely not talking to you, Schif, but it's amazing to hear the response to a ski area spending money. I sure don't recall Montage being able to sell mini billboard space to local hotels like the ones at the base of the lifts. The bunny lift even had one. And any peeling ads on the top of the Iron Horse lift towers were 10 years old, but have now been replaced with new ads. Kind of funny how getting all caught up in hating on something makes you miss what's really happening.
  23. Method, you seem like a really cool kid and all, with extremely thought-out posts. No disrespect meant, but you drink way too much coffee or something.
  24. Hey, asshole, then why don't you shitheads stay the fuck out of other forum threads bashing other parks? Your bitch leader Rob has spent the last year and a half threatening to even make calls to the the county to attempt to cause problems with the sale, then has made over a hundred posts hating on our hill. And a bunch of little boys from BB and BC play follow the leader and have bashed away. Rob bashes and hates, then says "Oh, but I hope great things for your hill." Problem for Rob is that not everyone is as stupid as he is. Except people like you. Now, step back from your computer and think about what you're about to say because my statement is 100% accurate and your response will just be driven by misguided emotion. Oh, and nice work for sure!
