Then Blue should charge less than Sno because the snow quality sucks. I've read nearly endless complaints about Razors and Challenge this year. And the snow quality almost killed Jeffy. People pick on Blue's grooming, but you can only do just so much. Doug, it's cool that you are a vert whore with a flexible schedule which allows you to pick and choose relatively quiet times to ski. But you are in the vast minority. It's still in the master plan to install a HSQ. This season, though, they added another 40 guns to the 193 from last year. I think the plan is to boost skier visits before taking on a big debt.

The layout of the mountain makes it unnecessary, except for marketing reasons. How many millions would you invest to chop three minutes off a ride that's for runs that are 60% green circle, then 40% single black? The heart of Sno isn't on the east side, it's the NF. And the Phoebe is just fine. It's not a fast lift, but it's a short trip right up the headwalls, with very little runout. But it's crucial to market the benefits of no HSQ. It's kinda of a ballsy move, but they have to take a page out of what Alta and Taos and MRG used to do. Tell it straight up: HSQ clog trails and all that traffic scrapes snow off the slopes. Quality over quantity, but there are also no lift lines to wait in. Skiing the way it was meant to be, not NYC subway-like the way other places have become on Saturday afternoons. It's amazing how gullible newbie skiers/riders are. They hear that Elk has such superior snow and grooming and keep voting for this myth in Ski Mag polls. But Elk has incredibly inferior snowmaking and gets maybe 20 more inches of real snow spread out over four months. Sno makes 20 inches of snow on the entire mountain in about four hours and has 1/4 the traffic to scrape it off. Well, sorry, that's the long answer, Poc...

There are finally some off hour deals on the website, although I assume you'll be coming up on a weekend. And it's funny how so many locals who had been begging for a HSQ are now rethinking it.

Groomed cord all over the mountain. It's a little crusty and side-slipping boards are crazy noisy. WL was groomed and in good shape. Boomer and Smoke were both excellent today. It was a weird weather day for sure. Forecast temps were 40 with sun, but it was cold and raw, with a breeze at the top. It seemed to hang right at 32 degrees and another couple of degrees would have softened it up perfectly. Long Haul was running and everything but the two new slopes at the top and Easy St were open. There were five bus loads, but almost all of them were on beginner terrain. Last I saw, tomorrow was supposed to be 40 and sunny, too. Who knows. The hill tops all around the valley still have ice coated trees.

I think we've had 30", but just 6" in January. We had 3 or 4" mixed in with all this sleet today. All the schools were closed from here down through Stroudsburg. I went out for an oil change at 2pm and they didn't plow the main roads until 3pm. It was weird how they just left such deep crap on the roads. Apparently, they held a boardercross event at Sno.

Chris is as good as the elite ASRA guys, so if you can push him, then that really says something. I just think it's great how many Sno coaches are involved in getting their own race fix. You're in a pretty good position to see how doing your own racing is just one more tool for your coaching quiver. I always had more respect for my coaches in various sports who still played whatever game. I just felt they had a better understanding, rather than just preaching the book. Also, I'll make a proposal this weekend about some slalom gates for next Thursday and let you know.

One of our teammates wrote me last night to say we had the top three times, as well as the top female time...I had to leave Sno right after my second run, so I didn't see actual results. Bobert540 smoked the course and was the only person to break 35 seconds that I saw. The guy who is usually our fastest had to share skis with another racer, so he ended up dealing with some tough ruts because he went late and was second. And our super fast guy from Germany, who was dealing with the flu last week, uncorked a great second run for third fastest overall. I also saw Brian's runs and have no idea how he wasn't fastest. He and CJ are awesome racers.

Yeah, it sure is. After they return from Utah, there are races at five mountains in February before the Elk races the first weekend in March.

Just so you know, a couple of people were just trying to point out that whether you are joking or not, threatening to shoot people is cause for a police investigation. Where the fuck have you people been? Freedom of speech doesn't allow for death threats. I don't particularly care if some dipshit kid says he wants to shoot a bunch of racers at Bear Creek, but it's a really good way to get your ass hauled into jail to explain how you were just trying to be funny. If you don't believe me, just make a little joke to your homeroom teacher tomorrow about how fun it would be to shoot a few kids in algebra class. Then get back to us about how nothing happened to you.
