Oh, and since this thread has a "results" warning: Bode DNF'd in last night's slalom at Schladming, for anyone interested.
-
They are mostly concentrated on the hits. And I guarantee that if/when Sno switches to all white lights, there will be universal agreement that it was a good thing.
-
I watched the race. I didn't bother to click your link. The world does not revolve around you.

Rob, is it that you hate on all the cool kids on this MB and pal up with all the loner trolls? Where else have I seen this, where a grown man spends an inordinate amount of time with outcast boys? Hmmmm...I need to give this some thought....

Bode encouraged a mentally unstable family member who had already been convicted of assaulting the same cop to continue to confront him. Bode felt it was the cool thing to do and called the cop names while he was in town to bail his cousin out of jail. Bode himself joked in a Sports Illustrated article that he fought a speeding ticket (83mph in a 40) written by the same cop just to "antagonize him". Bode also told a Nashua reporter that the cop had it coming. Bode's mother told another reporter that they should have "run the cop out of town". Again, Bode encouraged a kid who had once cut a tree down to land on another relatives home to keep confronting the cop. Bode's cousin looked up to Bode---Bode was a hero to him and would have backed off if Bode had told him to. Instead, he got his hands on a handgun and committed murder. Piling on? I don't see it that way. Anyone is more than welcome to root for a guy who encouraged a scumbag to kill a little girl's father for doing his job and trying to keep the peace. Not only did Bode's cousin shoot the cop to death, he then drove over the body. And I agree that a lot of people have dirtbags in their families. Dirtbags like Bode, his cousin, his father, and his mother. Not a single one of them has shown any sympathy or remorse for the family they destroyed. No, Bode didn't pull the trigger. He just gave the mentally unstable kid who worshipped him opportunity and encouragement to do what he did. And my helmet's too tight? I appreciate that...

I know. I'm just being envious of all your light over there, you lucky b*st*rds

Long Haul will open when those slopes open. Well, that's the idea. BTW: anyone notice the new lights on Spike? Jeez, I wish they'd throw some on the race course. There was a thread about the white lights being installed and some discussion about yellow/amber being better for snow definition. But if you measure the light coming from the new "white" lights, I'd bet they give off five times the light as the old ones. With yellow goggles, you get the definition back, plus have more light. Anyway, they should have a lightbulb screwing party and get 'em all done.

Don't college students pay $32 for a 4hr pass and $40 for a day pass? It's a little unclear, but that's what it looks like: http://www.snomtn.com/ticketpricing/

Murdering a cop in cold blood is trivial to you? Bode encouraged his cousin, even bailed him out and told him to "show the bastard". Bode himself gave the cop a hard time. You're an idiot, Rob. A little girl lost her dad to those scumbags.

Def by the weekend. Not sure if it's on purpose, but it also looked like they've been angling guns to drop snow into the glades.
-
I don't have posters of anyone from the cop killing hillbilly clan either.
-
Ty and I went over from 4 to 5pm for a couple quick runs and the guns are still blowing full force on the east side. A groomer was making it's way up Lower Runaway, so that side of the mountain is close to opening. Maybe tomorrow?

And yet it just doesn't sound interesting enough.

For recreational skiing and riding, just once is fine. A base is like a sponge, you can keep loading it up by waxing and scraping and repeating it over and over. The wax then slowly makes it's way to the surface, but 99% of people just do a single coat each time with great results. Oops, I missed that. Dan is right.
-
That's funny? Why? I guess you had to watch the video?
-
Ha, sounds like a Clinton definition of sex argument. IMO, using 'top' is just more casual than using 'summit'. If you start to add references to 'lift serviced', then I can see definitions changing. But it's just IMO... Or, if you add "a resort's top elevation" is often not the summit elevation even in the Poconos.
-
I didn't see it. And killing the awesomeness for whom? You? So what?
-
Make all the stupid comments you want, DH, but speed event racing is about the quality of your bases and hitting the right wax. The difference between Hermann Maier's bases at the peak of his career and another Austrian on his team could easily be over two seconds. The number one "driver" gets the fastest skis. For years, the Austrians got the best quality skis from Atomic, which gave them a heavy advantage. There was constant bickering between countries, inside teams, and among sponsored athletes from like companies about who deserved the fastest skis. On top of that, many speed event races are won and lost by the wax used. Wax is amazingly crucial nd can easily mean several seconds difference in a race. These two factors easily add up to two to four seconds and beyond in races that are often decided by tenths of a second. So, you can be a wiseass, or you can learn something. Results became so predictable in SuperG that they had to do a reverse 30, having the fastest skiers with the best equipment go last in the first flight. In other words, they had to 'punish' the racers with the fastest gear with more difficult start numbers.

You can just go with what Schifdawg said. It's that simple. Eh, the summit is the top and you drop what you rise.

You have the best username ever. I'm just sayin'

Collected off who, Rob? The guys who jumped me in Panama? No, Rob, the pictures I smuggled out of the men beating a boy for handing out anti-Noriega leaflets made some money, but I lost thousands worth of camera gear that day. Being a successful news photographer for a photo agency entails building a large portfolio of work from a lot of different places and hoping you get consistent future sales. When someone does a story or writes a book about Salvadoran politics of the mid-80's, Ortega's Sandanista revolution, the Vietnamese pullout of Cambodia, the invasion and arrest of Manuel Noriega, political unrest in Haiti, or a few other geo-political events, some of my work has a chance of being used on a one-time basis. It is a horrible way to make a living. Wars are mostly fought in places that are 98 degrees and everything you eat or drink makes you sick half the time you're in country. And a lot of contract deals are incentive based, much like a salesman or waiters. Worse of all, journalists are a target more than ever and no money is worth having your head cut off on video. It is in no way a glamorous or enviable career and it's filled with a lot of scumbags---which I closely resembled. I am, however, very grateful that it's given me the opportunity to spend a lot of time with my youngest---something I missed out on with my oldest.

Doug leaves and it all goes to Hell, eh?

I have property less than 30 minutes from Jackson Hole where we're slowly building a place. I also own a home at the Jersey shore. Out of almost 8000 post, 4000 are not about you, Rob, or your friends. I don't kiss anyone's ass, but I do happen to love skiing my home mountain. The Poconos are a great place to live and we're just hours from my favorite type of skiing, which is New England hardpack. We aren't rich like Rob and some other people on this message board, but I was able to semi-retire seven years ago by living off of residuals from years as a combat photographer in a number of wars. And now it's clear you don't know shit nor do I care about your life.
