  1. That's pretty screwed up. I think a resort should just give a straight up season pass. Jeez, it's not like there will be any effect on liftlines because a few employees are skiing. If that's really the policy, it needs to be fixed. They obvioulsy need the most help on Sat/Sun days, so why lose good employees that are willing to ski weekend afternoons/nights?
  2. Although that's a possibility, it doesn't really make sense. How would it be in BB's best interest to fire anyone that has name recognition and that provides a great end product? At the risk of riling up anyone, I think Jeffy is probably right. And as far as the 'lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way' thing goes, that would be fine if PL OWNED their own park.
  3. Yeah, if your HBSH day is, for example, August 31st, then your skj free day is the last day in February. No hidden scam, just a way to get people to try Belleayre.
  4. In agreement. Cole Alpaugh
  5. Okay, so these temps suck and all, BUT I have to say that seeing the left side of the mountain white was f*cking AWESOME. I bet it's never looked like that in the history of the mountain---left side white and right side green and muddy. Seems like all the guns are installed and ready and there's really just a crapload of cosmetic work to be done, like assembling tables, etc. Also, I was up just as they were removing the Montage sign from above the entrance to the lodge...if I wasn't in a rush, I'd have grabbed pics of that and waited to see if a moose was going up.
  6. Quote of the day: "To those that know us, it has been a struggle to find a hill to call home for numerous reasons, mostly because the terrain and/or program does not match our skill levels." Anyway...here's the lesson of this thread: if you are a professional with unique skills like the PL guys, do your work AFTER getting a signed contract. I can't believe they would perform all that work and allow their names to be used all on some handshake deal... Whether right or wrong, JFBB has some bad karma issues this season that they need to deal with.
  7. Season ticket discount ends today, 12/14...5pm in person, or by midnight online. I have to head up today...
  8. Yeah, that makes sense, especially since 12/11 was a Sunday...I blew off the first few days 'cause I was beat from camp.
  9. I was at "Montage" 12/11 last year...I'm not sure if it was opening day because I had camp at Sugarbush the week before. But the year before that, "Montage" opened 12/22. I think the year before that, we were skiing XMas week with 60 degree temps., but they had been open before the XMas break. Boy, the stats pages are useful...shame it doesn't have a full-time mod.
  10. I guess you haven't seen the back room with all the caged rabbits, TP4...
  11. Sno is selling off all his gear in one thread and quitting the ski life in another...intervention time.

    ski bindings

Wait, you'd be willing to ride 30 yr old straight skis, but aren't interested in $30 rock skis that aren't twin tips? You'll get hit with a $20 to $25 shipping charge with eBay, but you can always find 'good' rock skis that have decent bindings. Not sure how easily this link will translate, but here are eBay listings for Buy it Now skis, from 160-170cm, lowest prices first: LINK I mean, here are beater Rossi's, with bindings, for $11.88 "Buy it Now" plus shipping. The bindings are on rails and will adjust to your size, plus they have BRAKES, so you won't do a head gouging egg beater. Any binding is only as good as it's spring mechanics...if it's worn, then you'll eject when you don't want to; if it's frozen, then you may not come out when you want to. I would NEVER recommend this for others, but I've bought rock skis/bindings, set the binding to 2, then tried twisting a boot out. If it releases, then I'll test it at 6, where it should not easily release.

  15. I think Greg just found the next mod.

Do I? What a dick I am. But, yeah, I don't mess with race plates. I prefer having someone that makes a living working with them do the mounting. No, I was just some high school kid slave freaking labor for your favorite shop, Metzy...I was talking about a shop at Mt. Tom.
  17. Cool about the new hours... But, no, you're not the only one. The SMI system they have will require 48 to 72 hrs of good temps to open top to bottom, if I remember some of the stuff I read at the SMI website a while back. That's pretty typical, though. The season is make or break at most ski areas with how XMas week goes, so I bet they are more concerned with getting the whole package set for then. IDK, there's just a lot of sh*t we don't know, like what's going on with vendors and insurance and all the other crap. I would have done everything to get a couple of trails open, even if the ticket booth was a tent and concessions was a coke and candy machine. The upside, though, is another full season of no lift lines. Eh, when they open...
  18. I imagine it was just a matter of getting the new guns installed. They could make all the claims they wanted about a deep base by December 15th, but we're all a little smarter than that. From all of CB's snowmaking upgrades over the last decade, they should be able to open by October...and Shawnee supposedly opens every Thanksgiving. The bottom line is always the same: Mother Freakin' Nature. Sno gets a pass this year because of the bullsh*t hold-ups by Washo. Next season, when it's cold on Nov. 20th, we'll hold them to it, since there won't be any excuses for not blowing.

What skis and bindings are they? I worked on and off in a shop back then. One of the problems you might have comes from a combination of the cement/glue that's dripped into the hole where the screws are inserted and the fact that you likely have a very old wood core. There's no rail that the binding rides on, correct? Any chance they have leashes?
  20. They better hit it hard while they have these temps, especially since they plan to open 12/15. BTW, when you click on HOURS, they just have office hours and not lift hours. I can't imagine they won't start running the lifts earlier during midweek, rather than noon. Anyone see a brochure with hours?
  21. I remember a few years ago when Bill Gates announced spam would no longer be a problem by 2006. Currently, 90% of all emails are spam...it's sort of like any kind of freedom---as long as there are certain freedoms, spammers will be there, too. DMC completely shut down his alternative Hunter MB in the off-season and I imagine it was because of the spam.
  22. We normally open XMas week, but The Hideout snowmakers positioned the Areco's last night and cranked them up today We'll be poaching midnight runs even before Sno opens

    Disapointed

    Eh, not for Jeffy.
  24. I'm sure their not going to risk what will be over $25 million in investments trying to save 3% on an $8,000 bill. Perhaps the guy you talked to just wasn't clear...ski areas often buy pre-paid blocks and the ski areas obviously have their money go farther when their usage is off-peak. That's the same for all of us, though. And even if Lackawanna had entered into some crazy deal with PPL, every contract ever written can be broken.
  25. Do you usually pay for it?
