  1. as luck would have it, i caught the bug going around the office just in time for the weekend. kinda feel like crap. Need to feel a little less crappy to ski.
  2. I would have thought Peak would be looking to sell JFBB after they bought Hunter and got the taste of larger ski areas. Then they go and buy the other three. I guess they look good on their multi mountain pass. Did they cut a whole bunch of trees down at BB? it looked really "open" to me when i was there last month.

  4. Dont forget about that other place. You know where im talking about.
  5. Might be a little light snow tomorrow am. Nothing crazy, but a little fresh on top of the slopes would be another nice bonus for December.
  6. I really should have read that twice before posting it. Everything is cool here. Thanks.
  7. All of a sudden i'm hungry for some Razors.
  8. Deep pow in the glades today?
  9. The tree that used to be in the middle of Tannenbaum. it was a fir tree, so its not deciduous, but i always thought it was cool that they left it there in the middle of the trail for people to run into. It would have been neat if they could have put Christmas lights on it. It got taken down by a storm a bunch of years ago. Trees in the Poconos dont have deep roots because of all the rock, so they are susceptible to being blown over by strong winds. Many years ago RidgeRacer pointed out that Tannenbaum is German for fir tree, which also can be loosely translated to "Christmas Tree", hence the song "O Tannenbaum", which the modern day lyrics were written in 1824, by Ernst Anschütz. Anschütz based his text on a 16th-century Silesian folk song by Melchior Franck, "Ach Tannenbaum". August Zarnack in 1819 wrote a tragic love song inspired by this folk song, taking the evergreen, "faithful" fir tree as contrasting with a faithless lover. The folk song first became associated with Christmas with Anschütz, who added two verses of his own to the first, traditional verse. The custom of the Christmas tree developed in the course of the 19th century, and the song came to be seen as a Christmas carol. Anschütz's version still had treu (true, faithful) as the adjective describing the fir's leaves (needles), harking back to the contrast to the faithless maiden of the folk song. This was changed to grün (green) at some point in the 20th century, after the song had come to be associated with Christmas. this reminds me that i have done very little Christmas shopping, and that bugs the crap out of me. However, i am fairly positive i am getting new ski socks for Christmas, so i am very excited about that.
  10. Bald Eagles are really cool.
  11. The guy thats harshing everybodys stoke about rain this weekend should probably play this kind of low key. Or, take the focus off of him, which in this case, nice work.
  12. ohhhhhh, so you are the one that started that rumor. I did find it a little odd they would open it with such limited terrain on a Monday, but theres economics, then theres Blueconomics.
  13. Dont start him up. If thats really a factor in the overall experience to ski, probably need to take up knitting.
  14. Beltsville Buoy shows activity for the last week of December.
  15. Dont put too much faith in a forecast 5 days out. I dont disagree there may be some less than stellar weather late this week, but lots can change between now and then.
  16. Looking at the valley cam at 7 am, i'm leaning towards this was a rumor.
  17. I thought they would have been further along on tubing by now. Every 4th post on thier facebook is from someone asking if tubing is open yet...has to bring in some big $$$.
  18. I didnt actually look at tubing. I said hopefully they are done on tubing soon. Are you a tuber? Why so much info on whats going on at tubing?
  19. Pretty decent snow day today. Lazy was sooo much better today. Stopped in the lower lot on my way out. Blowing on challenge, not huge production. Really hard to tell what paradise looked like. Hopefully they will be done on tubing soon so they can focus on more trails.
  20. Fun day with all of you morons.
  21. The last time i looked at that trail, the name "stumpy" comes to mind. Honey Bee Bowl will be skiable long before that trail.
  22. We hired a girl here, who, on paper should just be smart as a whip. Dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb. Zero common sense. She doesnt work here anymore.
  23. LED's to replace those bulbs are pretty expensive, and would probably end up being really white, like almost Blue. If they dont have the ability to do it in-house, which is more than just screwing in a bulb, it probably isnt cost effective. Being a large consumer of electricity, i can tell you they pay about half of what the normal household pays for electricity. So, the payback is still there at some point years down the road, but its not as lucrative as the normal household user switching to LED's.
  24. Wait.....you bought flat skis from Buckmans, and it took like 2 weeks for them to get them to you? They really arent doing anything to help with the "shop local" thing.
