is Razors open to the lackeys?
-
There is certainly truth to that. Right now, i do think the LV will do well. Should be a fun day. If you are there, maybe we can share a cocoa?
-
EPAWA going pretty big on this one. Weather porn.... Might be a little early for this, but what i like about this map at this point is i think Blue is in a good spot for this one.

Old news.

I saw the canyon road was a shit show yesterday, so good for you guys staying at Alta. Wildcat lift never disappoints. I read that Alta parking lot eventually grew full and had to turn people away.
-
I thought that was kinda funny too. Under the 6 is just littered with beer cans, but the parking lot is the problem. Back on topic. A list might be helpful. i can make some burgers, or whatever.

Working on the "yeah, so it doesnt look like i will be in Wednesday" at work right now. The timing on this looks real good. Overnight Tuesday and into Wednesday.

3/3/18...variable snow..a lot of PASRs.
JFskiDan replied to GrilledSteezeSandwich's topic in Blue Mountain
Frost is claiming 18” as well. I believe them leas then i believe camelback. I would say camelbacks 18” is a little exagerated, but not by too much. That area got fuuuucked up. NWS actually has Mount Pocono at 20”. We know that the jfbb ruler has a few inches missing off the bottom. -
I had mentioned before i was up in the air about Elk, or Frost, with Montage as a backup for today. i was guilt-ed into going to the cardboard classic last night by some friends from the neighborhood here, so off i went. Hung out and did the tailgate thing for a while, a little after nine i clicked in to make the most of the cards i was dealt with. It was snowing at a pretty good clip at that point. I pretty much knew right away this was gonna be a bust and the epic-ness was way up north. The wind was blowing straight up the slopes. i basically had to pole and skate down lehigh. The base snow was just waterlooged sort of firm but not frozen, and any kind of head wall was pretty much just blown off. Hopped on the park lift, which, holy fuck, if it was to go any slower it would be going backwards. Demattes was pretty much just as bad, there was a tiny bit of pow on the sides, but any turn you made just killed your speed. Onto the East Mountain lift which must be propelled by gerbils. Lightning (yeah, right?) to Rivershot. Just straightlined it, for fear of not making it too the lift without too much effort. I didnt even bother with Floyds, Doug. They still hadnt started to send the sleds down the tubing slope, so i figure down Exhibition to take a pee, since there was a line up for the porta-potties. Pole, Pole, skate, skate, down Exhibition at a turtles pace. Up the worlds slowest lift again, down T-bolt, which was the same as every other trail, windblown headwalls. Back up East Mt, stopped at the top to watch the start of the sleds going down. They had to basically move the finish line up closer to the start line twice. The snow was hampering the downward motion of the sleds. they basically had to push them down....lol. So i was done my workout for the day, so i stowed my gear in my truck and resumed the tailgate thing. Good food, good people, and some wonderful apple pie moonshine, that was just off the hook. I might be able to get my hands on some, it would be fun for Blue party day. We went through about a gallon of it. I am completely jaded by the high speed lifts, the vert, and the trails at Blue. I still want to like Frost, but it just doesnt have much going for it anymore in my eyes. They are in rough shape over there with their base. i'm not sure i have ever seen it so thin. lots of poles up where there is just no snow. Trees are not in play. I know its been a tough week or so with the rain, but, wow. And i doubt much of whats falling today is gonna help since its blowing off the slopes and into the trees. We stayed a little while after the cardboard classic was over, which was a huge mistake. Really slow traffic getting out of the place. My buddy got a call from his wife 940/115 was crawling. made a plan to go the opposite way to the turnpike, down to the slip ramp and be home in a jiff. Nope, turnpike closed in between our entance/exit. so 940/115 it is and just deal with it. Nope, had to turn around. now i try to go through split rock. again, denied. Running out of options, we ended up going down past the turnpike and taking 534 all the way home. it was super sketchy, but there werent that many cars on it. had to stop twice to clear out some hills of cars that werent making it. 2 hrs to get home from frost. What the fuck is it with this area that when it snows, the roads shut down because of people dont know better, and arent equiped to drive in it? long story short, cardboard classic fun, good time with friends, sucky skiing, but i did manage to get a small work out in doing so.

Thanks for the offer, as much as i would like to go, my dog keeps me relatively close to home. Anybody that could stop over and let him out will be at JF, and after that pretty much too drunk to let a dog out to do his business. stupid drunks.

Hey Root....where do you find these maps? i have never been able to find them on their site.

Nice. Game day decision for me tomorrow. Supposed to go to cardboard classic, so i bought a $9.33 tix, since i would be there anyways. Plan B depending on how things look in the AM would be Elk. My confidence level as to how this all pans out in snow in the Poconos is kinda low. NY def looks like it could be good.

That looks super tasty btw.

If you had a first gen camaro, then me and you just became internet friends. Most of my childhood was in black and white. Color tv came into my house when i was about 8 or 9. We had a rotary telephone until i was 18. Elgin 6. No 8 tracks for me.
-
Yeah, thats interesting. Thats really pretty far for me, daytrip, but im gonna look to see what elk might get.
-
Thats pretty much it. I think im going to the cardboard classic at frost on friday. I may look into buying a ticket if they are selling them for $9.33. Not sure if they do for this one.

Goldminer is good. If the canyon rd closes.....it could be pretty epic for you. So since its gonna snow, let me tell you where to go...... anywhere.
-
yer gonna get dumped on. Perder, perder, perder. Maybe the biggest snow for them this year. Are you staying at alta/snowbird? Lately i have heard the canyon road has become a shit show in the snow. Apparently they arent policing the 4x4 or chains only, and dumb asses in their honda accords are getting stuck, sliding off the road, and then the road closes to clean up the circus act. Is NMSKI going with you? it seems like he drags the snow around with him where ever he goes.
-
I dont think this is the case. I am pretty sure chains are frowned upon by rental companies. There may actually be some verbiage in their contract that says chains are not allowed. Unfortunately all season radials have replaced snow tires.

You are off by a month.

No. I dont know what you are thinking of, but no snow in april, no blue mt skiing in may. If Big Boulder can barely pull off mayday, theres no way blue can. We had this exact weather pattern last year, maybe not this warm, this many days, but if that march snow didnt show up, we were gonna be cooked pretty early march. They had to blow snow on homestretch for closing day. Back on topic. Sat March 10.

Nobody can get to JFK in 2 hrs 8 mins. Google maps and gps’s dont acount for the fact that NYC is just the most fucked up place to drive in the world. Going to JFK to fly direct is conterproductive.

I have no horse in any kind of JFBB-Blue Mt race, but here is my take being as i was a passholder for years. I think JFBB are now the red-headed step child of Peak Resorts. I'm pretty sure when they bought Mt Snow, they took snowmaking equipment from Frost to Mt Snow. I'm pretty sure they did the same thing when they bought Hunter, but it think this time it was equipment from BB. Why else would it take 50+ days to get BB 100% open this year? Thats a tiny little place. Granted all snowmaking there has been fan guns for quite some time now, but 50 days? Peak used to focus on day trip type resorts. I think they got a different taste in their mouth after Mt Snow, and then when they bought Hunter, and the taste is good. I think the park scene as a whole is on a trend downward, and BB isnt looking quite as good on paper anymore, and Frost aint setting the world on fire either. There was kind of a huge "lack of caring" in my last 2 years at Frost. They went from make some cool shit off trail skiable, to make snow, spin lifts, close early. What do you do with 2 resorts that might show a profit on paper under the Peak umbrella, but might not look like winners on the open market? I can be way off base here, but i think peak has to be looking at these 2 like, what do we do with them now? It would be interesting to see if Peak will be a player in Jay and Burke.
