  1. i checked that out too...still snow in one park glade. i thought about that, but as you would say, the logistics dont work. i think i will use the alien pass at CB sat, make a few short runs at BB sun, then if next weekend is still in the cards, use the camelcard for some type of discount. if next weekend didnt work out for whatever reason, i would be kicking myself for not getting to camelback this weekend.
  2. Ehhh....in my honest opinion the snow didnt come first at Frost this year. It certainly did at Boulder but not at frost. When we had the warm spell at the end of Feb, things were looking pretty bad that weekend, but then they got 8 inches the last monday of feb, and a few more inches like a week ago or so. had they not gotten that last 10" of snow, they wouldnt have been open last weekend.
  3. i knew i should have made that bet with you yesterday.
  4. well, since frost closed up, i think i may take advantage of the freebie this weekend.
  5. Thanks for the reply. As a passholder, i for one look forward to this every year, and am pretty dissapointed. It was always kind of a nice note to end the season on.
  6. Damn....

    awesome pics. looks incredulous.
  10. it was really nice. they still have a boat load of snow. Elk would absolutley positively be the shit in PA if they had Frost's liberal skiing policy......so much could be had in the trees. the plan was to scope out something worthwhile before we had to leave, but ended up leaving sooner than planned. Good day though.
  11. anyone know????? Heather? Guido?
  12. black pants, brown jacket X2.
  13. sorry to hear about the wife.....broken nose doesnt sound like much fun.
  14. ski free, or for $25?
  15. Frost closes March 20th.
  16. Good stuff....glad to hear colorado is still getting some of the white stuff. keep the pics coming.....pics of spring conditions in PA just dont compare to powder pics in CO.
  17. havent heard anything......i would assume it would be the 20th, but i am sure we will hear something shortly.
  18. Hey All, I'm back from a all day session at Jack Frost mountain. I rocked out to coffee and cigarretes on the drive up and pulled into the lower lot at 750AM. The temperature was around 40 degrees under misty skys. Phillycore was already there and Ridge Racer pulled in a few minutes later. Me, and Phillycore had first civilan 2-pack. There was a dense pea soup fog on the top half of the mountain. We first skied Challenge glade which was smooth and fast. Then Lightning to rivershot..lightning had zero visibility and there were no bumps that were funky. Rivershot was very good. ..especially the bottom half where you could see. We met up with Ridge Racer at the bottom of the east nountain lift. Crowds were moderate..no lift lines but there were a good amount of people skiing this morning. They were getting the elevator ready and hopefully the fog clears by Noon..C1er was in the house and Nobody else joined us as well...some more Elevator glade, Elevator and Challenge glade laps were had...even some playful stuff in Risk it..the snow was getting real water logged and slower on the trails...off trail stuff stayed nice. I peaced out around 230PM...the Brown coat bunch including PC and Ridge Racer had instructor duties. Hopefully the rain later today and tomorrow holds off..I'll have to make a game time decision about tomorrow...all in all a pretty nice all day session of perhaps 25 runs...Living the Dream.. Ridge Racer in Risk it.
  19. if you buy now, you will most likely get this weekend and next at frost...would like to be more optimistic and think theres 3 weekends left at frost, but we all know ticket sales will dictate how long a mountain stays open. Boulder will be open until april most likely. you would also be able to take advantage of Camelbacks alien pass day, provided they do it as in years past. Frost and Boulder definetly dont have the most vert in PA for sure. i think tree skiing, snowmaking quality, grooming, and a very liberal "ski anywhere policy" make up for what they are lacking in vert. I think the crowds on the weekend are less than other mountains. Boulder usually opens first of all pocono mountains. Just my too sense worth.
  20. looks kinda just like i remember it....awesome. ski it up. whats the weather/conditions like?
  21. Powder days in the poconos makes the price of admission worth while. Nice pics....no pictures of food????
  22. Steamboat is a really fun place...as is winter park, however i am a little more biased towards steamboat because we got 14" on the first day. Trees galore just all over the place. John is correct in saying the trail map can be tricky at times....looks like you should be able to ski from say morningside to the top of the gondola, (where we ate lunch) but you actually have to ski down to like elkhead to take that lift. Hotel Bristol is a high recommend. we had a "family room", which was 2 seperate bedrooms, each with its own shitter, joined by a shower in the middle. dont know what the single rooms are like. hot tub, and 2 common areas that are good for reading/drinking/posting TR's. there is also a locker room with lockers for your skis should you feel the need to bring them inside. Steamboat smokehouse like John said is a definete recommend. kind of your old time saloon, peanut shells go on the floor, and the food was outstanding. price for a meal is more than reasonable. If you stay in town somewhere be aware it kinda takes some time to actually get on the mountain. The parking we found had us taking a shuttle to the base of the mountain....which is no big deal at all, but plan accordingly. if you get snow, you will be joined by half the town or more, and they definely have getting first tracks figured out. the gondola opens at 8:30, but some of the other lifts dont open until 9 am, which is kinda strange....we past a lift that was loading people, in favor of one of the high speeds and we ended up waiting for a few agonizing minutes in -15 degree weather waiting for the lift to start loading. i saw 2 emails come through from steamboat, which i didnt read, but i believe one of them was a deal on lift tickets, so i think there should be something out there in the form of discounted tickets. Hope you get some nice fresh....this was my first time out west and found that Steamboat was some place that was hard to leave. Great skiing and a really cool town. Dont forget a camera. take pics.
  23. i'll look for you tomorrow. i have no idea why you would want to leave the east coast for Colorado......
  24. Met up with PA Ridge Racer about 9 am. skied east mountain with the mandatory elevator run. skiers right has just a little bit of powder on top of the ugly ice/sleet stuff. so its powder with crunch since its breaking away skiing on it. skiers left is basically ice. Elevator Glade is ok, little bit of powder with crunchy stuff mixed in. Challenge glade was decent at the top, but got more scratchy as you go down. Made tree glade was really the best thing we found today, poweder on top of a hard surface. The ice/snow/sleet/rain/snow weather pattern has left the off trail stuff skiable, but its nothing to get real excited about. I found the trails pretty nice, but definetly some icy spots around.
  25. steamboat day 2 has come to a close. we made it until about 2 pm, before our legs were junk. this morning it was like 15 below. sun was up, so it quickly warmed up to about 5 degrees. nice bluebird day. cold, but managable. few fast groomers in the morning with some trees mixed in. pictures were pretty weak today as John and I got split up for a while. cell phone service was a little spotty on the mountain. found some decent powder on morningside, i belive. kinda wishing i checked it out yesterday, but it has some fairly steep stuff with a long runout that doesnt have alot of pitch to it....i think Nick or Glenn may have made mention of that at some point. both winter park and steamboat have tree runs galore, and had a great time with both, but steamboat really stands out, mostly because the luck we had with getting 14" for our first day. i felt the PE's might not be the most fabulous ski in left over powder runs and trees, so i got hooked up with a pair of K2 obsethed. Very cool ski. pics at a later date.
