  1. i never really thought stuff out west would still be skiing this well. definetly not the same as late season stuff on the east thats for sure. pics look great. need to move utah up on the list.
  2. yah, pics looks nice.
  3. Quote The leases for the land underlying Jack Frost and Big Boulder may be terminated by the landlord and if terminated, would eliminate revenues from these resorts. We do not own the land underlying the Jack Frost and Big Boulder resorts. We have entered into a lease with Big Boulder Corporation and a lease with Blue Ridge Real Estate Company, both of which terminate on December 1, 2033. The terms of the leases provide that the landlord has a right to terminate the leases at any time, upon the payment of approximately $500,000 plus the net book value of the assets relating to the property. If these leases are terminated, we would not be able to operate Jack Frost and Big Boulder, and therefore, the revenues generated by these resorts would be eliminated. Jack Frost and Big Boulder generated 7% and 6% of our consolidated revenues for the fiscal year ended April 30, 2010, respectively. There's some really interesting accounting data in the SEC filing, that maybe someone can better decipher, but if I'm reading the top of page 17 correctly, JF/BB have consistently done well over 11Mil in revenue for the past 3 years. JFBB generate 6% and 7% of the consolidated revenue, which is 11 mil? so peak is doing close to 100 mil? that sounds pretty decent for a seasonal business, but i guess thats depending on what thier operating costs are. posted on thier facebook page - "10 shares with each season pass purchased before 4/28/2011"
  4. Trees look nice.
  5. same here - i thought this was going to be about some awesome new stuff at elk, when in reality its just about landscaping. But it is always good to hear about improvements to a mountain. Elk would be the bomb in PA if they let you ski the trees.
  6. if thats blue, i need to reconsider where i get my season pass for next year.
  7. i'm subscribing to this thread as well, since my buddys 11 yo son has out grown his current skis and has his heart set on a pair of twin tips. i was thinking 140 or better for him as well. my thinking was get something a little longer and let him grow into them, and, i thought twins were typically measured tip to tail, making the actual skiing surface less.
  8. looks as though skiing in PA is done for the season, except may day.
  9. Its just my prediction, based on the fact they like to say first to open, last to close. After this weekend they can make this claim without having to open next weekend. i hope they are open past this weekend, trust me, but i guess my confidence level is low on that happening.
  10. so then this weekend should be the last weekend Boulder is open. Except may day i guess. They still have like an 8' base over there.....crazy amount of snow. Nice of Camelback to stay open so long. i had 3 nice days there since Frost closed in February.
  11. the trees have me a bit perplexed as well, but i think they are refering to their zip-line thing that is set to open next weekend.
  12. they definetly have an interesting ruler for measuring snow. on a side note, there is way more snow near BB than there is Camelback.
  13. actually the snow has picked up some.....about 3" now.
  14. 1 1/2 inches in the poconos. still camelback should be decent today.
  15. now Friday thru Sunday.

I'm with you on that one....a selective snow. one that only falls directly on the slopes.

Great news..since everyone had such an amazing weekend at Camelback Mountain Resort and because Mother Nature is being so kind by bringing us this cold weather...we're planning to do it all over again this coming weekend! The weather is looking better and better as the week rolls on. Camelback plans to be open from Thursday, March 31st through Sunday, April 3rd for your skiing and riding fun. We'll have more info on times and a video of the past weekend--if you missed it, don't make the same mistake and get out this week! skiing in April with mid winter conditions....gotta love it.

SHORT TERM /6 AM WEDNESDAY MORNING THROUGH THURSDAY/... INCREASING CONSENSUS FOR A MAJOR NOREASTER THURSDAY NIGHT INTO APRIL FOOLS DAY. THURSDAY SHOULD START AS A RELATIVE LULL BETWEEN THE SYSTEMS. FORECAST SOUNDINGS ARE PRETTY SOCKED WITH LOW LEVEL MOISTURE AND THE NORTH TO NORTHEAST FLOW IS NOT CONDUCIVE TO CLEARING. SO WE MAY HAVE MORE LIGHT RAIN OR DRIZZLE EARLY, A BREAK MID DAY AND THEN THE ONSET OF PRECIPITATION BY THE END OF THE DAY. WE BACKED OFF ON THE GFS TIMING SOMEWHAT AS IT REMAINS THE FASTEST MODEL. THE LACK OF A SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE TO THE NORTH WILL KEEP THE BOUNDARY LAYER RELATIVELY MOIST AND WET BULB TEMPERATURES ABOVE FREEZING. WAS CONSERVATIVE WITH MAX TEMPS, MANY PLACES BELOW STAT GUIDANCE AGAIN BECAUSE OF CLOUDS AND ONSHORE FLOW. COME THURSDAY NIGHT AND EARLY FRIDAY ALL BETS ARE THEN OFF AS THE LOW IS FORECAST TO INTENSIFY FAIRLY RAPIDLY. THE GFS THERMAL FIELD IS COLDER THAN THE UKMET OR CAN GGEM (HI RES ECMWF NOT VIEWABLE IN TIME). BUT TO A CERTAIN EXTENT, IT DEPENDS UPON WHERE THE DEFORMATION BAND ESTABLISHES ITSELF AS DYNAMIC COOLING WOULD CHANGE THE RAIN TO SNOW REGARDLESS OF LOCATION. PAY ONE NOW OR PAY ONE LATER, WE SUPPOSE IF THE LOW WOULD TREND FARTHER TO THE WEST, THIS WOULD INCREASE THE HYDRO CONCERNS PARTICULARLY IN NJ AS EVENT TOTAL QPF BY THE GFS/CAN GGEM AND UKMET ARE AVERAGING 1.5 TO 2.5 INCHES. THE SYSTEM SHOULD BE EXITING OUR AREA AS FRIDAY CONTINUES AND ONCE THE INTENSITY IS LOST, PRECIPITATION COULD GO BACK TO RAIN. BECAUSE OF MARGINAL TEMPERATURES THIS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE A HEAVY WET SNOW EVENT, NOT EXACTLY A UTILITY`S DREAM. WE LOADED IN SOME CONSERVATIVE SNOW AMOUNTS IN THE GRIDS FOR NOW, BUT THIS SHOULD BE VIEWED AS A VERY FIRST GUESS WITH REVISIONS TO FOLLOW. BROUGHT MIN TEMPS CLOSER TO FREEZING FASTER OVERNIGHT BECAUSE OF ANTICIPATED MIXING OR CHANGEOVER AND WITH SNOW PROBABLE ON THE GROUND IN PARTS OF OUR CWA, WENT BELOW MEX MOS FOR MAX TEMPS. This is a pretty broad forcast from Delaware to upstate PA. Alot of the cosmic tumblers in the universe will really need to come together for this to really be great, but it could definetly be something. The 1.5 to 2.5 numbers they are using are liquid, not inches of snow.
  20. camelback says open this weekend with $25 lift tickets, and maybe, just maybe some new snow. Plattekill sounds interesting, but imo its not a daytrip. Elk says they are closed for the season on their website. Colorado seems to be doing pretty well.......
  21. will you honor my CBS local tickets that i intended on using at Frost 3-19? i think they expire 3-31.
  22. possibly saturday, again. hard to pass up.
  23. keep the pics coming....conditions look great.
  24. by eleven it was mobbed. and people still coming in when i left at 11:30. Camelback was awesome for offering $25 lift tickets, especially since they were practically 100% open, and the conditions were awesome. i over heard from someone who worked there that it was like presidents day weekend crowded. glad they made thier buck....wouldnt it be nice if they opened next weekend?
