perfect morning session at frost. groomed stuff, ungroomed stuff, lots of powder everywhere. the elevator is really getting a lot of action. Dom and i talked with a couple of guys from the ski patrol who were just as stoked about the elevator as we were. no tickets were issued. Dom in the elevator glade Dom on the elevator lift lines were picking up some when i left at 11:30.

just back from a short session at Frost where conditions were just awesome. tons of poweder everywhere. hit challenge trees on the first run, then straight to east mountain where i laped rivershot and of course made the right hand turn down the elevator. the elevator was in great shape today, i think it got some man-made last night, and an inch or 2 of fresh on it this morning. the base on the elevator seems to be some solid man-made, not a sheet of ice, so even though the powder is getting pushed around some, its still real managable. challenge glade the elevator from about halfway down. the right hand side by the trees is filling in nicely the elevator from about halfway down looking towards the lift. nice powder. Cant say enought good things about conditions, and the crew at JFBB keeping it top notch. Hopefully making some turns at Boulder a little later on.

that one there is the theme song for this week, i think at pretty much any mountain. i never saw more ignorant people pushing their way through the lift line than yesterday. you make some valid points, but it really think alot of it is due to caliber of people skiing this week. i really havent seen anything crazy on the elevator when i was there, and i was there monday when it was pretty dicey with the ice from saturday. i saw people come over to rivershot from the challange glade, right before the second headwall. i actually heard them say "now what", looking down at the headwall which was covered in ice. isnt there a sign on east mountain lift that says it only services expert or more difficult terrain?

see post above....X2 spent the day on the west side as well, making some turns with some friends. lots of people, lift lines were definetly a little longer than i really expected, but the awesome conditions made up for that. plenty of snow for everyone. the trees on that side might be the secret stash, not that many people ski them, so the snow is real nice. like someone mentioned before, watch the gully at the bottom of Janes. i believe i over heard someone say they were going to make it snow again at frost tonight..... kudos to the crew at JFBB for such good conditions.

(amount of time skiing) / (3 lift tickets + 1 rental) X 2(kids that want to ski/ride) - 100(1 mom that doesnt really want to ski in the first place) > the amount of times i hear "see, i told you it was to fucking cold to do this. need my calculator?

super cold with the wind? i have some friends in town and right now theres a big debate going on.....

thats the truth right there. i saw plenty of carnage on east mountain today....comparable to WMMR day. C1er - i really appreciate the early morning TR....i was a bit lazy getting out today. i made it there about 10 or so...stayed until just after 2 pm. east mountain lift was moving along nicely even though the crowds were definetly there. C1er made the good points for the day, snow on the edges of floyds, river shot was nice on skiers right, but the last headwall was just completly skied off down to ice. lots of skis going to the bottom without people attached to them. trees are ok, ski-able, staying closer to the trail was better than going in deeper, since they did put down some man-made last night. i made 1 run at the elevator from the glade....theres just a little powder on top of hard crusty stuff...the base isnt really a solid sheet of ice, but it does make for some fast skiing. jahhdip

got to Jack Frost about 10 am, no where near as crowded as i thought it might be.....at least the slopes anyway. seems like more people were hanging out by the lodge than on the slopes, and that didnt bother me. parked over near frosty so i made my way to east mountain pretty much skiing about every other trail. the beginner trails were nicer to ski on since conditions were typical for the day after rain, then freezing temperatures. not alot of people skiing east mountain, so the trails hadnt loosened up too much, still pretty icy. floyds was pretty interesting...lots of people sliding down it after realizing there wasnt too much grip. the elevator and the trees on challenge are gonna need some love by either mother nature or the wonderful folks at JFBB. (hint, hint) skied my way back over to frosty, spending a little time bombing Janes Lanes since the snow got pretty nice there around noon. Left JF about 12:30, grabbed a samich, and headed over to BB. the slopes at BB had some more traffic on them so they werent quite as icy. definetly more crowded than frost, big boulder lift line was moving pretty good, so i just made runs on bunny schuss, dragonfire, big boulder and mittlewig. eventually found PC and Serch, made a couple runs together before PA RR joined the usual suspects. we made 1 run together before i had to roll. i am making some turns at frost monday, if anybodys around.

R2D2 New Local Snowboarding Celebrity Sensation!
JFskiDan replied to DiMe's topic in Jack Frost & Big Boulder
thats pretty cool! new PR guy at JF.....robert2 -
i agree with that one. i know robert2 would be fine on east mountain, but for some reason chooses not to go over there. now you two kiss and make up, GSS is just having some fun here. i find the both of you quite entertaining.

all the snow we are going to get this year will keep it nice. actually, i am confident that JF will do thier best to keep the trees and the elevator fresh.

for some reason i didnt see this post saturday night. didnt know there would be anyone else in attendance, or we would have put up a time and place to meet. usually we are there first thing, but, i left my house without my snowpants , and PC was sleepy. it was one of those perfect days.....all except for my ankle getting tweeked a little.

yep...another great day at jack frost. i made it there by 8:30..the usual conditions that the nice people at peak provide us with. met up with PA ridge racer, PC and Serch at about 10:30. we made our way over to the elevator glade, and the elevator where we made numerous runs down this little ungroomed wonder in the poconos. PA ridge racer and PC picking a line PA ridge racer on his way down....3rd floor, sporting goods, recreation..... PA ridge racer about halfway PC....going......down PC....second floor, hardware, electronics watch the boulders at the bottom of the elevator. they are kinda hard.

yup. yup. yup. Dawn patrol.

just got back from Frost. excellent conditions, challenge glade nice, glades on thunderbolt could use a little love though, not quite as much coverage. snow guns are working hard on east mountain. i would have to say rivershot will be open tomorrow, they were working on grooming when i left. managed to snap 2 pictures on my recon mission to catch a glimpse of the elevator. 1st picture - my new friend "grumpy", or at least thats what it said on the drivers door. he was groming rivershot. we waved to one another. i make friends everywhere. 2nd picture - the elevator all cleaned up, standing on skiers right of rivershot. it looks like its got some decent coverage on it. floyds hasnt been touched yet, therefore the landing on the elevator only has some natural snow on it, but i am hoping it keeps snowing to at least get a few more inches on it. i dont see the landing not having alot of coverage on it being an issue. my skis should be off long time before i make it to the bottom. the picture clearly doesnt depict at all how steep this thing is. had to make time getting across rivershot from challenge glades, so i didnt get to spend too much time taking this picture. i was kind of dodging my new friend "grumpy". i didnt want to become a mogul, or get a talking to.

nothing happening in the poconos as far as snow....yet. winds have picked up a little. heading out to Frost now.
-
lets hope so.
-
it looks as if philly to the shore are big winners for this storm, right now. hopefully like you mentioned it tracks more inland producing more snow in the poconos. i think some people think 3-6" for the poconos, which is nice, but more is always better.

i will be there. saturday and sunday.

this weekends snow is kind of inverted, more along the coast than in the wonderful mountains of PA. i like your thinking for next week. think positive.

this is nice: snowguns working hard!12.16.09 | By Guido Jack Frost Mountain's snowguns are pounding East Mountain. the snowmakers are pushing to get it open this weekend. GM Mark Daubert just told me over 150 guns are running right now, with an ideal temp of 24 and very low humidity.
