love the chart, btw. i'm actually suprised to learn the humidity doesnt lower the snowmaking temperature as much as i thought it would. i would be more than willing to ski on a pocono wrod this coming weekend. -
2 weeks ago a friend was making plans to ski tomorrow and tuesday at killington, whick i did a superb job of inviting myself along for. well that didnt pan out so well, since they most likely wont be open till later on this week with some decent temps. i understand they had rime, reason, bunny something-or-other open, and working on some other areas. from what i have been reading, the lower part of the mountain pretty much turned into a mud bog with last weeks wonderfull weather, but they did get some snow on friday to help things along. they should be able to make a decent amount of white stuff this week, and have some more trails open. lets hope. i am hoping to make it up sometime the next week.

clicky, clicky at least for now it sounds good.

"I know some people on the forum are also drying their compressed air by pumping it through a series of old baseboard heaters." i think they actually do that to cool the air. kind of like an aftercooler. air compressors have a nasty habit of producing hot air.

someones been to snowathome.com cant you do it with a pressure washer as well?
-
thats so true about accuweather.....for the past week or so the last 4 days show good snowmaking temps, its like frickin groundhog day over and over again. the cold air is there, but never gets any closer.

he is pointed towards the burton clash. from what i have read, it actually appears to be a good choice for beginners.
-
a seasonal rental is actually my first choice, but since this isnt my kid, i'm not at the controls. i think he has his heart set on getting a brand new snowboard for christmas, even if he only uses it a handful of times this year.
-
he is 16. a little further into this and i am getting the impression this will be a new purchase. used gear for him just will not do.
-
i managed to get my nieghbors up to the poconos, and on the snow. twice, last year. they have 2 sons now asking for ski/snowboard equipment for christmas. the skier i can handle, the other one snowboards, so i need figured i would tap into the wealth of knowledge around here for snowboard advice. of course, he wants his own snowboard. so, for a complete beginner, what size board should he be on? he is 5'6", and weighing in at about 110 lbs. Basically i think he would need something comparable to whats in the rental fleet. i'm a big fan of used equipment for this purchase. is it crazy thinking i could score something on ebay for 50-75 bucks, that would be functional? money is the object here, i would prefer they spent less on equipment and more on lift tickets. Renting for the season is an option, i guess, but i think it boils down to him having his own equipment. keep in mind i know nothing about snowboards, so feel free to give me and education.

i got my fingers crossed for thanksgiving weekend. might be driving somewhere that weekend though. -
quite a hike, aint it? we gave it a valiant effort to get down there twice now. ski slopes are amazingly steep when trying to walk up them.

you will most likely move in 7-9 years. maybe sooner. just a prediction.
-
the grimm reality of it is, thats exactly what i would do if 20k suddenly fell from the sky. i want to set myself up so in a few years more of my income is "disposable", unlike now. i know 20k aint gonna fall from the sky, i wanna add a slushy machine to go along with the car and cell phone.
-
a blue 1970 Chevelle SS. oh, yeah, and some type of bad ass cell phone to go with it.
-
where do you want to go? thats what i would be asking myself.
-
i agree with that part, there is nothing worse than boots that are uncomfortable. but... i think you should rent the whole package for the first 2 times out, to make sure this is something you want to persue. i have often thought about learning to snowboard, but never once considered going out and buying the equipment before a test run or two.

i think an early november opening is being optimistic. i can be wrong, and i actually hope i am, but it seems like 25 degrees at night might be pretty good for making snow, but is 40 degrees or more during the day counter-productive? not trying to be a "debbie downer", just trying not to hype myself up for something that might not happen. when i looked at the long range on friday it was much colder right after halloween than it now shows. so...yeah, the long range is a guide that will probably change considerably by the end of this week. -
fun, fun, fun. now lets concentrate on getting some snow on the ground. looks like the temps right after halloween are heading in the right direction. i would say everyone is ready for some snow. 3 "cool points" to the crew at JF.

"smartwool" socks work real nice for me.
