Wednesday morning might be interesting. But then again, it just might suck.

NMDW is my fav trail. it wasnt great today, but i figure even a bad NMDW is better than no NMDW, which i know when they put those big stupid bumps on it, we can still ski it, but the flow is gone once they do that. Shicola Chute-midway was probably the best run. We determined you cannot see Cuzi's cabin from the new lift. @AtomicSkier @GrilledSteezeSandwich @mute1080......if this verifies......yeehaw! -
1/21-1/22 weekend roll call thread…

Will there be a ribbon cutting ceremoney? some nice opening remarks by @Johnny Law? Maybe a raffle to get first dibs on it? Honestly this makes me tingle downstairs more than the new lift opening. -

i dont know what to think either. one part of me says its been so quite lately that its jigglin for a reason, the other part says its just looking for some attention.

Winter might show up next week. Or it might not. the buoy is bouncing around for like next fri-sat. Not sure how reliable it is now that they flushed the dirty diapers out of it though.
-
So, basically they still dont have snow on the turn? WTF.
-
Freeballing is open today. no NMDW yet.

The frozen button thing would sound strange for any other resort……..blue mt? Makes perfect sense.

the original build date on the house is like 1907. It is unlikely it looked like that when it was built. it has probably morphed into more of a house than a cabin over the years of renovations, additions, etc. Also, it appears as though there was someone living there from i think 2014 up towards the time of the sale. be neat to see it not torn down, and maybe made into a scrapple shack for the new tuning area. Being from 1907 (at least parts) i sure would like to take a peak inside.

it should look something like this, there might me more, but this is i guess what would be the most usable real estate, if that makes sense. Edit - there is one tiny parcel on BM Drive owned by PPL, across the street from Burma.

i have been having quite a productive PASR morning at work. Curzi's is/was a pretty neat place actually. I dont find it neat enough that they have to go renaming a trail after it though. https://gis.carboncounty.com/prcs/8-32-A10.pdf If you leave the lower parking lot, and start to head up BM drive, the first driveway you come to would be the access to the property. I would say you cant see the cabin from the road. i think it was like 10 acres, and it really did sit in the middle of a huge amount of land BMR Resorts owned. So, yeah, If Blue Mt wants to use across the street for tubing eventually, they got off pretty easy with just having to name a run after the guy in order for them to sell it to Blue. I cant find what the property actually sold for, records show it was transfered to Blue for $1. nobody is that nice that they would trade some property for a named ski run. They own an impressive amount across the street. At least 230 acres. From the entrance of the parking lot across the street, the rear property line is about 3,800' back. It appears they own the land they use for the Carbon County Fair, and this is propably the LZ (off Little Gap Rd) when they cant use the lot across the street. For those in the discussion as to how much land BMR owns on the other side of Freeballing, its roughly 2,900'. And for those wondering how much expansion that may be compared to what is currently "Blue Mountain", Blue is basically 4,419' wide, trail wise. like from the outermost point of Burma, to Para/Freeballing intersection. Also, the new lift appears to span a distance of 4,257'. The OG6 is 4,141. Quad is 4,414.

No.

As @Benm is trying to point out, this mornings music was baller. Echo what everybody else said. Way better than yesterday, sss6s is cool, main street was popular, and the comments from those that skied razors were funny. last run down main at 9:30 or whatever was still decent imo. Lower was soooo much better than yesterday. They must have put some stickum in the snow the blew on it last night. Its my guess they will keep making snow on nmdw and freeballing till tomorrow morning, since, again, that will be it for snowmaking for a few days. So maybe open wed, and then decent by the weekend.

"we actually have more terrain open this year for the holiday weekend than last year" Did i misunderstand what Ashley said?
-
i was gonna say, boy they sure are putting a lot of faith in having the ribbon cutting ceremony, a raffle for first chair, Johnny Law giving the opening comments, and the Christening of the lift with some of Mute's beer, on Saturday. Imagine if this goes horribly wrong?

im a huge fan of heat pumps. Basically all the Older homes up by me in the Poconos are electric baseboard. So of course people are always on FB asking how to combat $300-400 a month electric bills, even though they are part time. I have been saying heat pump for years, and i get the "its too cold for heat pumps in this area", from the experts on FB. I have to be going on 10 years since i put the one in, and then i moved that one to a bedroom, and bought a huge one to replace that one that was in the living room, which is also the kitchen and dining room. I just got my bill yesterday, last month was $85. Granted, there was just one real cold snap, but i was also there for 8 days around Christmas, and i think my shed is better insulated than my house......its so bad. I put both of them on 50 when i leave, and they probably do 75% of the heating when im not there. I would put one in my primary home, but that one is gas, and its probably pretty break even between gas and elcetric most times. As much as i like mini-splits, i dont like the octopus climbing up your wall going to multiple head units. i did a pretty good job of disguising mine. Does yours auto switch between oil and heat pump? what degree?

i dont think i have ever skied the 118' of trail that is Upper Switchback.
-
confidence a little low? well, yeah, same here. I can wait. The only thing a successful ride on that thing is going to gain you is the upper part of Widow maker. Dont get me wrong, happy its gonna spin, but its not like it opens up another part of the mountain, or takes you directly to the scrapple shack. thats why i had "kinda" in there.

Forecasts are just all over the place, even with temps. I cant stop myself from looking, but i am putting less faith in things even 2-3 days out. Forget looking a week out, it will just change, and i will be sad.

Just as an FYI, when i chatted up Pria via webchat, she said mine had been sent out, but she was kind enough to re-send it and i got it within a very short window. i am ususally very careful when it comes to deleting emails in my inbox, but i hardly ever look in my spam, i usually just delete. And i think when they sent it the second time it went to spam. Telling me they had sent it, could have also been what she had on her flash cards as far as standard response to "where is my $50 GC" who knows.

Trying to keep my happy face on, but, the forecast is dismall. possibly some snowmaking oppurtunities this weekend, of course after it rains, but these small overnight sessions arent going to allow us to get the jam on NMDW. Meanwhile, it wont quit fucking snowing out west.
