I would bet that we will have another 1 1/2 ways down the mountain this weekend. Decent amount of snowmaking temps over the next few days, and then of course it gets warm when the precipitation moves in. Very excited for this weekend.

it appears as though its on. They were blowing on lower main only. Lazy, and i think midway as well. Really hoping we get some new terrain for next weekend. When Midway isnt being used by everybody to get down, it sure can be a ton of fun.

i read that on FB this morning too. The paranormal activity in the Poconos is off the charts. I think we need to wait at least a week for some sustained cold, but there are a few snowmaking oppurtunities before then, but i doubt it will be enough to get any new terrain open. It would be sweet if they had something like the bottom of lazy covered that we could do a little up hill on. It would certainly be a welcome break from skiing the same three trails.

Comparing Blues lift, with access to both the base and summit VIA a parking lot, and an access road is kinda different than thunder at JH, and i assume Abasins lift isnt quite as accessable as Blues, is a little skewed, no?

Yesterday was lots of fun sking the same 3 trails with the usual suspects, and some of the usual crew that made yesterday thier first day. Excellent selection of trunk beers. Parking lot buffet was off the charts. i think i ate half of the pork belly. The stretch of paradise after coming soon was so interesting by 9:15. Reminescent of lower main on early season days. I think this weekend will be a little rinse and repeat, but thats cool with me.

If Blue really went all out compared to other ski areas, we would be riding the Summit Safari Super Six Pack Supreme by now. JFBB installed multiple lifts over the summer, fuck, even Toe could manage to get thiers done in time. They do put on a show with thier snowmaking though. I think we all can agree they have some other areas of the business that could be fine tuned.

This is probably accurate. I dont think im gonna complain about them, and just be happy to be skiing the same mountain with the same people and enjoying some grown up bevs afterwards.

They were running some snow making things at JF too. I think they will put on a snowmaking display tonight.

Its my opinion that since they have already announced staying closed Friday, they will be open for Sat and Sun. It looks like it may be a little moist for parts of Saturday, but i dont think its an all day steady rain at this point. Unless its pouring down rain sat am, i will be there skiing the same mountain with the same people for an hour and a half, and then hang out in the parking lot drinking beer and discussing current events.

I think this is pretty accurate. i was thinking shortly after the purchase that Vail pretty much didnt give a fuck about either, and were going to let them go to shit as much as possible. Both JF and BB are pretty big for that area. take them away, and you take quite a bit from the area. pretty much just left with Split Rock. They are opening Tubing again, at least at Boulder. I never figured out why they wernt interested in running that cash cow since they bought it. I am always interested in who owns what and whatnot, so i looked up JF, since its in Carbon, and i know how to use thier GIS, and the property is owned by JFBB ski areas Inc, Broomfield CO, so i do think Vail owns the land.

True. But Vail has taken away BB's identity removing most of the park stuff, so i can see why they arent real concerned with jumping right on having both open early season. im still blown away with the upgrades they did at BB.

I will take it as long as we can make some turns this weekend. Hopefully Thursday they can put down a little refresher. Winter comes back in 1 week.

And tomorrows weather looks like poo. I cant see blowing snow to watch it wash away, and yeah i get that some of the base will be leaving us too. Thursday night should hold a refresher. then we just need to make it to about wednesday when they can crank things up and be productive.

Kinda like skiing Camelback. Or even getting first Tube at Camelback. Yippee.

today wasnt quite as nice as yesterday, but happy to be skiing this weekend, and really happy to be in the Valley for opening, so i will give Blue a break for closing tomorrow. im gonna bet they didnt sell a ton of day passes either day. it didnt seem like the usual crowded opening weekend, but maybe its just because they opened with more terrain, and more lift capacity.

so i take it if they did regrade the top of Harmony lift, you can pretty much access the entire mountain from it. There were way too many lifts at Boulder. Using Blue's math, i think there were 18.

After tomorrow, windows for snowmaking close up quite a bit for a week or so.

So i was just looking a little further into the weekend forecast. I might lean towards agreeing with you, but there are 2 really different solutions to this weekend, and one does show some significant rain. Timing will not be good on things until Wednesday, i think. A rain filled weekend with no skiing is gonna suck.
