VIP line when the line guy was out making 6's worked out real well. nice job by Blue getting that going early. Ditch was fun, even skied a little sleepy hollow glades. @Boo Bear's brownies are money. -
Seems like Fail is operating snowmaking at a snails pace at most resorts. granted some of these resorts dont have snowmaking on 100%, but this seems like some pretty low numbers to me. And Hunter is 47/71

Well at this point they are making better progress than Camelback. But thats still pretty pathetic.
-
Place your bets. Camelback closes tomorrow?

You can keep this going as long as you like with this, but if you really think this, is going to be more stable in the wind than this, You wont be able to change my mind.

i will say this, that new lift is way over the top for a PA resort with 800 vert. That thing is way fancier than the MSE. Big building to put all the chairs in when they dont feel like running it. its like they bought the Caddy when a nicely optioned Chevy would do.
-
im no engineer, but im not going to buy into that at all. I might buy into it some, if the bubble automatically closes for both the up and down. i think, if im not mistaken, killingtons does. Bubble down, i could see your point. bubble up, big fucking sail.
-
i never really thought about that. High speeds are susceptible to winds for sure, but that bubble just might as well be a sail. Silliest thing on a lift that goes like 2000 feet ever. There is actually a fixed grip right next to it, but i would assume based on the recent happenings at that place, its basically a monument. Jeff and I saw some chairs swaying like crazy on Christmas day, and i dont remember it being windy. That place is such a mess this year. Like, embarrassingly fucked up.

I can tell you for sure people around Delco think its going to snow. I made the mistake of going to the grocery store and it was jammed with people. Even though eggs are sooo expensive, there were barely any in the cooler. Bread was definetly moving as well.

Reliable source = “long time season passholder”. Those guys are always in the know. Just like in the Elk forum.

For you to go mildly Salty, it had to be pretty fucked up. Im telling you, the lift issues are because they are built on an indian burial ground. They can put in a new lift that runs just as bad as the old ones. they struggle in the lift department for sure. But they have someone out every morning organizing the snow fencing for the lifts. Thats how like the bizzaro world of blue works. Make sure the lines have organization, so people are organized when the lines start backing up because the lifts stop cooperating. You know the snowfence they put up to keep people from getting on the snow to the lifts except where they put the mats? My guess is someone at shit, either getting on or off, or someone just skied right off and took a ride in the ambulance. Its unlikely the fence is a preventative measure. Thats unlike blue.
-
Come on now.....you didnt think they would get their shit together while you were gone did you? lol. Its like there is always something they are duct taping back together. They need one of those signs you see on a construction job, "days without an accident" but more like "number of hours with seemless, continuous operation" Baby steps. I forget what day it was but they ran the lifts overnight so they wouldnt have issues. so, kudos for that. 12:52 all lifts turning and loading, however the 2 times i watched the main street cam the lift stopped multiple times. It also looks like from the valley cam they dont have the usual snowfence up aroud the OG 6. like they never really intended to open it today. Remember that little powder day last year when all of PA/NY/NJ descended on Blue and they had one lift working? Its like they have short term memory, sometimes.
-
i would rather see them making Challenge full width before the glades, but i get it, Challenge is open, but they cant say "100% open" until the glades are. The glades are luge runs more often than not. But, catch them on the right day and its good for some variety.
-
The good thing is we have quite a few trails to pick from, like when you are riding the lift up for first run and Challenge and Razors are shiny.

i see lots of stuff that says January is going into the freezer. Probably colder than we really need, but it might take the guess work out of what type of precipitation might fall.

so many moons ago, i was told by an ex snowmaker at BB, that there was no operational compressor there. So BB is all fan guns, and i still think thats true to this day. Thats why there should be a huge surplus of old snowmaking equipment at Frost. i remember seeing pictures on FB. Now, it may have been a lot to me, but i dont make snow. I just looked at Frosts trail count, and it is weak. like What you said, its just a little over 50%. And thats kind of sad. They had a big cold spell, but its apparent they go at a pace that is akin to a snail. Personally i dont think opening Frost first has any bearing on their slow snowmaking. Vails business model is 180 degrees what Peaks was. im still surprised they operate both of them.

so, oddly enough, no ice on the BBQ, which is what i use as a gauge. no ice on the deck. no ice what so ever on the truck. but the untreated roads in the development were slicker than snot on a door knob. i bailed on the 534 route after i read that 534 was Icy death on FB, but thats kinda normal FB talk from people up here. took the turnpike down to palmerton after sliding out of the development onto 903. Now reading the fun comments on the community FB page about how people are going to sue the POA for not treating the roads. People up here are truly assholes.

it was so good this morning, that even Sidewinder was super duper. For day 1. That never happens.

There used to be a ton of old school portable snowmaking equipment at frost. Vail probably auctioned it off with the old chairs. BB had a ton of portable fan guns that i think would make their way over to frost at some point, but peak was way more aggressive with snowmaking at frost. For years i skied there, i feel like east was open around jan 1st more years than not. keep in mind, peak sold season passes and day passes. Getting the mountain open asap increased day pass sales. Vail sells season passes, and thats pretty much all they care about. I said it earlier this year. They drag their feet making snow. Passes have already been purchased. Aggressive snowmaking at either resort doesn't make their wallets any fatter.
