After this weekend of leaf cleanup #3, i will be fine with temps taking a hard nose dive. Does look like a spectacular weekend to be outside.

Leaf mulching did not go as well as hoped. Frozen leaves in the am, wet leaves by 10 am. I got half done today. Maybe a little tomorrow if its dryer. Will need another weekend.

I guess we still dont really know what the maximum occupancy of the mountain is based off of, whether is some type of square footage math problem, or an equation based on what the lifts can handle.......but i would have to assume the percentage of just passholders is quite high on opening day, and the possibility of exceeding capacity with just main and burma is a pretty real scenario. i sort of think the top to bottom thing might be a reality, but thats a whole bunch more ground to cover just to even open with the normal opening offerings. I'm just hoping they can get to making snow around thankgiving.

yup. snowing on all the leaves i need to manage tomorrow.

2020 has been a challenging year and it’s looking like the challenges will continue into 2021. At Elk Mountain, we’ve had to make some difficult decisions. Rest assured that Elk Mountain will continue to offer a quality product on the hill and in the lodge. This means that you, too, will have to be patient and help us to comply with all National, State, and Local rules. Please understand that as long as occupancy limits are in effect, we will have to limit the number of people in all indoor spaces. Time spent in the buildings will, as well, be limited. No tables may be reserved whether inside or outside. All skiers and snowboarders will be required to wear an acceptable face covering at all times, unless eating or drinking (e.g. seated in a designated area) or actively engaged in skiing or snowboarding provided that the skier or snowboarder is over the age of 2 and able to medically tolerate such covering. We encourage you to boot up at your car and to tailgate. However, no open flames are permitted and all traffic lanes must remain open at all times. An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people gather. We may from time to time have to adjust our policies to keep both you and our employees safe. Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation. Please don’t be the reason that we lose our season. If you have any questions, we ask that you call us at 570 679 4400 or email us at elkskiresort@gmail.com. 2 take aways. 1) They encourage you to tailgate. 2) "Please dont be the reason we lose our season." Thats a pretty good line. The way things are going, this could all go in the shitter, and with no Bidet in sight.........

@toast21602 - do you have RFD TV on your streaming service? i have occasionally bumped into a few neat programs on trains there.

How come you dont see bidets in public reatrooms?
-
It probably wont go over big at work me showing up with a bidet for the bathroom.

Well i can tell you first hand that cleaning products are becoming scarce again. I was trying to locate one specific product and amazed that the shelves in that isle were sparse.

I dont know about that. What about the "scenic lift rides" for the truly talentless in life that cant ski? They come back on the lift so, i dont know how that would work. Doesnt Kmart usually have people download on a lift early in the season, as well as make people walk up some stairs?

Whirlybirds are a Blue Mountain thing. And its possible its a transfer from Bear Creek, but im not sure.

What are level 3 restrictions?
-
As soon as i saw that, I knew this would be a problem for you.

Exceeds social distancing and gathering group size. Maybe book for 2026?
-
Fuck. Not this again.

If i am not mistaken, in PA a ski lift falls under "amusement ride." Just makes you wonder about the whole inspection process. I was told by this person, and she might not be the authority on lifts, nor know exactly what the part is even though she knew the name of it, but i consider it a pretty significant part of the lift. it wasnt like it was some paint that was flaking off.

Its electric. There really isnt gas in the Poconos, and it would be silly to use propane when ski resorts have the largest electric infrastructure available. Greek Peak has at least one, and i found it awkward, but maybe its just because it was new to me.

Correct, sort of makes me question that. Like, then why bother with inspecting them if the inspection doesnt pick up on certain safety items?

94.3% of the people commenting in this thread couldnt GAF whether its a high speed detachable, a high speed fixed grip, or a water heater. We do appreciate the clarification though.

The funny thing is, Peak was a huge improvement over Blue Ridge (i think thats who Peak bought from). But remember, all the lifts need to be inspected. Which i am sure they did. But Vail found lifts to have issues, even after (again, assuming) they were inspected. You dont have someone inspect your car after you have it inspected, do you? You assume the guy doing the state inspection, performs an inspection on your vehicle and deems it safe, or tells you what repairs need to be done before it will pass inspection. So the big question here is, whats the annual lift inspection really like? it doesnt sound like it is the most thorough inspection.
-
I would actually be interested in knowing when the last time that lift ran. I think its been a loooong time. And you are correct, Vail doesnt mess around when it comes to safety. The interesting part of the lift issues at JFBB is that (i assume) they got inspected, and were cleared for takeoff by what ever authority inspects them. I heard from someone that worked at JF that one of the lifts at BB definitely should not have been running at all last year.

That right there is borderline night skiing.

not good at all.

I'm good. Just talked to TCC6, i can go in his 'vette, but thanks for looking out for me. His new one wont be ready for pickup until November, since he ordered it with the ultra limited stripe package, so we are slumming it in his 2018. He said the suction cup ski rack holds most of the time. His GF (eagles cheerleader, BTW) was gonna go, but she figured she should stay at home since all of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders will be at his place for the weekend.
