Colorado Road Trip - Telluride, Silverton, Crested Butte, Aspen
AtomicSkier replied to AtomicSkier's topic in Other Mountains
Sorry @Barb it was a long day. I’m already passed the halfway point of today’s drive, both in time and distances. 400 miles left to Denver, and ~5h45m remaining. I’ve been driving through a snow storm for the last 100+ miles but it was mostly blowing across the road and could still keep speeds up around 75-80. Clear of the weather now with the hammer down. -
The WFH situation has afforded me the ability to do something I’ve wanted to do. Spend at least a month in Colorado. One week in Telluride (with a day trip to Silverton) with @NMSKI and @Johnny Law, 4 weeks in Crested Butte, and a week in Aspen. After that, who knows. Today started that adventure. I departed 6:10am to dumping snow on 78. It was slow going for 30 miles or so. Finally broke free of that and set the cruise and relaxed. I had about 860 miles to cover to St Louis, my planned overnight stop. I had forgotten how beautiful the views from the PA turnpike are. Ohio is pretty flat, Indiana is a narrow state, and Illinois is just flat farmland. About 14 hours later, I crossed the mighty Mississippi and arrived in St Louis. Long day of driving, but I was in no rush. Stopped at least every two hours. Tomorrow’s destination is Denver to visit some friends. Should be at least an hour less driving tomorrow, but nothing really to look at. Might encounter some snow on my drive, but only an inch or two. Only picture I took today was at a random rest stop in Illinois of the car. It’s filthy, but kickin’ ass.

-
I want a good deal if I have to drive all the down there. I could hit a golf ball to Bethlehem Ford from my house.
-
I'm impressed @eaf ... not only are you an expert on lift capacity maximization, you also know something about cars!
-
Why? CEL is all emissions related, no? Car will still work fine.
-
Awesome. This report is distinctly lacking in one department though ... someone screaming like a little girl skiing down Coming Soon.
-
I'm out. I'm in trip-prep mode at this point. Enjoy boys!
-
I was out last night tooling around the neighborhood. Even took off the skins at one point to descend.

you jelly of our bromance?
-
I insisted on getting @toast21602 to his house. Well, the drifts didn't disappoint, quite a few whiteouts. I did his neighborhood a service though by plowing it.
-
... and then proceeded to open it up 30 seconds later. Stupid.

That right there is why we ski gents. Just pure emotion like that. Seeing the smile on @Benm's face when he came out to the lot said it all. He popped his pow cherry and he couldn't hide it.
-
Today was something else. Enjoy the enthusiasm. There is a video of the second run down with a better angle and wider view, but I think this expresses the emotions better.

In years past, they've groomed the expert terrain first, and let it pile up. But they'll groom the beginner stuff right before opening.
