  1. didnt know the bigdaddy was getting a snow pass...w00t
  2. the forum software seems to be reformatting URLs really weird.... view the pdf here
  3. I refer you to the second page, since I apparently don't know what I'm talking about... http://www.holmenkol.us/myadmin/datafiles/...rinding%207.pdf The article is titled "A Racer's Guide to Stone Grinding", the last paragraph talks about breaking down the structure to smooth it out. And after using your steel brush, etc to break down the structure, the last step is to remove any remaining ptex hairs AFTER the stone grind. You just like to argue, don't you? BTW-What I meant is Atomic bases in tip and tail are slightly concave, not cambered.
  4. Well, of course the stone controls the texture, that's how the texture is put in . However, that aside, it's inevitable that your skis will be full of ptex hairs that can only be removed by repeated waxings and scrapings with a very sharp plastic or metal scraper. It's those hairs which slow you down.
  5. they aRE?!?!!
  6. yaa
  7. Phil, I guess since you're not a racer, you don't need "fast" skis, but stone grinding kills any type of "speed" out of a ski. Way too many Ptex hairs that require wax after wax and scrape after scrape to get rid of them after a stone grind. I don't ski on my fast skis frequently enough to require them to be stone ground, which is one of the reasons I don't ski on them frequently, is because they're "fast" skis. If I had to grind my skis every 20 days, I'd NEVER get to ski on them, as it would take way too long to get them fast again.
  8. the skis i wanted are actually cheapest at nestors (better pricing then ebay by at least $100).
  9. dan....when i was at nestors chattin with justo, i thought about buying some skis from them, and then he said mounting was extra...total turn off (to buying skeeze from them)
  10. nestors charges $25 for mounting on skis and bindings you buy at their store...WTF. shouldn't that be included?
  11. JFBB def has the best season pass perks.
  12. I believe Atomics come from the factory with some camber in the tip and tail, and grinding them takes it out of the base. And yea, they aren't back up to speed until after 10 waxes, a few days on the snow, and several more waxes. That's a crapload of work every 20 days. In fact, you're better off grinding them, if you must, once a season, but even then, the work required to bring skis back up to speed is immense.
  13. holy crap...you grind every 20 days?!?! No wonder why you change skis so often.
  14. the prices at camelback shop are outrageous. $20+ for a full tune?!? Most of the work is done by machine. A full tune at blue is $12
  15. First of all, every 20 days?! Are you kidding me?! I hate when I don't have time to tune them daily. My skis get a fresh coat and a polish every night. If you have the tools, why not make skiing as enjoyable as possible? When 99% of people are sliding around on the hardpack, I'm having the time of my life. Maybe that's why you hate the poconos so much, because you only tune once every 20 days. As for a consistent base bevel. Get a base of beast, or whatever the "side of beast" equivilent is. It's fool proof, really.
  16. It's all Justo's fault. He talked me out of them
  17. I'm interested in the skeeze, how much?
  18. stevo's in the haus... as for ideas in the park, i want to see another 70ft bewter.
  19. Development is a good thing. All these tree huggers woried about thier precious streams. Will they care when they can find a higher paying job because of the new development, instead of working at some rinky dink gas station near Belleayre? It's like the private race track they're building not too far from Blue Mountain. People are worried about the adverse affects that driving around a track might have on the environment. But driving around on normal roads doesn't do anything to the enviroment.

  21. Trust me, you can do a better job then any shop person. They'll just run it through a machine, which isn't near as precise as you can be by hand.
  22. That's not nice, Doug.
  23. holla....
  24. One can only dream.
