  1. Soon enough, you'll be LOVING ice...
  2. Sure, anytime dude. I'm no instructor, but I've taught myself everything I know (well, with Ski999's help) so I have somewhat of an idea how to ski.
  3. It just occurs because of extreme edge angulation When you get that outside leg skelitally aligned, you need that inside leg to go somewhere, and the only place for it to go is into your chest, which also helps you do get more pressure on that inside ski
  4. I do that do. Anytime you see a rock, ski glove, brown spot, whatever, use it as a gate. Sometimes I just say I want to go around this gate right HERE. Pick a point ahead and just nail your turn around it, so when you get into the gates, looking ahead will help you set up your line for the gate, just as you did with that rock/glove/whatever. If you're ever at Blue, I'd be glad to give you some pointers...
  5. http://www.youcanski.com/en/coaching/coaching_index.htm Do some reading there, that might give you so background. It varies, but generally racers try to make 70% of the turn above the gate, and 30% below. Making more of the turn below the gate will make you get low on the line, and well, if you're not Bode Miller, slower. If you want to be fast in the gates, make sure you're a proficient arc'er out of the gates. You said you've seen me ski? If so, I'm constantly arcing turns, as many times as possible down the trail. It's the linked turns that you need to be good at to be fast. A solid linked turn with the ski loaded and no skidding is the fastest way down a race course. So practice the basics out of the course, then try to apply them in NASTAR, which is a good testing ground.
  6. You're not going to hook a tip racing NASTAR That only happens in slalom
  7. Well that's how you get REALLY fast, by crashing into the gate . Running NASTAR last week in near-perfect conditions less the wind, I set up the last gate on the headwall really early, and really accelerated down the fall line, but turns out I started the turn to soon, and I was really going to hit the gate harder then normal, but they really don't hurt THAT much, and it turned out to be my fastest time. Don't be afraid to start initiating a turn early, because it may be a really good line. The gates are made to get out of your way.
  8. You don't need schinguards. Ski999 only wears them because everyone else does, but handguards are a must... www.reliableracing.com
  9. It was at Windham last friday...you missed it, and Skidude said the trail they wanted to have it on was closed, so it wasn't a real SuperG
  10. ASRA is far from a beer league. The level of competition is amazing. I remember going to the Go-Pro at Tanglwood last year, and my mouth simply DROPPED when the likes of Bernhard Resch, who is ranked #7 in the country in NASTAR, and Bartek Witke, who last year, came in 3rd in the Male Professional division at NASTAR Nationals and ran a 4.98 handicap off the Daron Rahlves, the pace setter. Since NASTAR is your thing, those are the only facts that I could dig up that would make you think otherwise about ASRA.
  11. Well, in addition to picking up some slalom skis, at minimum, pick up a pair of hand guards.... www.ebay.com for the SL skis...Atomic SL:11's, the epitome of racing skis. Probably would want to go for a 157...
  12. Looks like some cold temps moving in after this weekend, maybe for an extended period of time? Who knows, it'd be nice to race in two weekends on firm snow...
  13. Rob, you start to cross the line when you start putting down Adam. I take offense to that. Who are you to say he's OK at slalom? I'd like to see Ridge be as good as Adam when he's Adam's age. MOST kids are much better at GS then they are SL, it's just a fact. I only know a few kids that prefer SL to GS.
  14. I think what the CB coaches are saying is correct, if I'm hearing it right. GS and SL turns are the same, but different. They both have the same mechanics, but the SL turn has to occur much quicker, and much faster edge to edge. Watch dude on his SL stix then on his GS stix. If you see his ruts int he snow, they edge presure on both, and the intiation is very similar, but the SL is much tigher, and much less time is spent having the ski flat. One can learn alot just by watching dude....
  15. It's a dual GS from the bottom of the first headwall to the bottom of the second...It'll probably be only $15 or $20, since we already have a season pass. It certaintly won't be NASTAR, the gates will be much more offset
  16. Rob, I'm no USSA coach, but the fact of the matter is, slalom turns, in modern slalom racing ARE mini-gs turns... Taken from http://www.youcanski.com/en/coaching/short_story.htm I think the austrians know how to do it
  17. It could be the sunday after that, ski999 and i will be there, but in our race suits, so i don't know if you want to see that There's a Dual GS on Razors edge the 12th doug (That's what 999 and i are doing), you should enter!

    Graphite?

Ski999, I thought the stuff we were using at Belleayre/Blue was Graphite? Or Was that teflon? Whatever that stuff is, it's TOO slippery BTW Ski, our bases on our GS:11's are high-electra graphite i believe, whatever that means
  19. Camelback coaches seem to know what they're doing, Chance really ripped it up! Good job to him!
  20. How about we just meet at the top of the north face lift?
  21. I was happy to break 900k tonight, give me a week, and I'll be at 1 million Should be soft and fast tomorrow...
  22. Well, first of all, its 2/5, which is Sunday, since thats when Rob orignally scheduled it at Blue since ridge has a race there. HOWEVER, because a very important Montage local only has next weekend free, Thinksnow and I will be having a PASR day at montage on 2/5, along with Ski999, Montageskier, Xnick, and a few others. So unless it is on Saturday, count me out....

    1/30

It wasn't too bad today. I started out on the GS:9s, and it just wasn't a GS:9 kinda day, so I busted out the 9.16 slalom skis, which were a blast. The right side of razors was really firm, so that was fun. Everything was a little soft for my liking, but what can you do? Booter still has great coverage, they just need to get some cold weather quickly, cuase more rain and warm temps will eat away at whatevers left. Day 53 for me, and i cracked 900k vertical, and doug returns tomorrow! woot woot
  24. I'm going to be a little delayed in my arrival, I've gotta pick up my car from its inspection (I waited till the last day). But I'll be up there. A little birdy told me someone special might be up tomorrow night
