  1. You hit the nail on the head
  2. Ridge won't be so fast w/o any gate practice now will he sorry, I had to Rob, it's the first race, his season is not going to be decided by the first race of the year. Think of it as an exhibition, he's a J4 for crying out loud. There will be plenty of gates to be run (if CB even has the J4's running alot of gates). The reason why you do drills is to engrain the technique into your brain, so when you are in the start gate, you don't need to think about the drills, it just happens. When I push off, I'm not thinking "GET FORWARD!!!!!" (well, i'm actually yelling it outload), I'm just thinking how to go fast, and if you're a good ski racer, that comes naturally, from all the drills. The reason I did resonably well for my first time racing was because of the drills I practiced, after watching the Blue Mountain team running the same drills. Maybe there is a method behind CB's madness, or maybe there isn't. But after 3 weekends of doing drills w/o gates, Blue's team was running a whole 3300' long trail full of gates yesterday.
  3. Rob, for once, and this is hard for a parent to understand maybe, but you need to take a back seat. Your statement about all training should be done with gates is absurd. I know one of Blue's philosophy, is to produce a good racer, you have to be a great skier. Blue does not train JUST on gates. They quite frequently do bump run after bump run. I've seen them jumping over gates laying on the ground, skiing with one ski off, etc. A great racer can't be made by just gate run after gate run. I agree with Ridge's coach.
  4. Every kid is in the same situation on the CAT team, including the best, and yes, Ridge. But some have traveled to VT, such as Adam to race, and get some early season practice. Adam is racing this weekend I believe. Every kid on the Blue Mountain team, is not. They had like 3 different courses set up on Razors Edge yesterday (three "courses" of real gates, and one for the little kids w/ brushes). One set on the top headwall, then started again in the middle section, and then came the little kids section, then another set of real gates. They had the trail almost top to bottom in gates, and that's a lot of gates. Does rocket have enough snow to set real gates? I know Adam said something about needing a certain amount of snow. But look at Sibhusky's daughter, she is skiing in an FIS face (not some low-key J4 PARA event) and she has had no or limited gate time. She did well. Most kids are in the same boat Rob, very little gate time this time of year.
  5. You know he's not getting engaged anytime soon Nice picture

  9. So how about free skiing at Camelback? Doug and I saw some retard w/ a santa hat on tonight, I almost went up to him and told him about Camelback's deal.
  10. i got bored last night since Doug wasn't there, i did a quck 15k vert and was out a little after 6...
  11. I'll try it if you try it, but you have to go first
  12. Oh the carnage...I can't wait for the holiday week to watch the n00bs attempt the stairs. Ill bring my lawn chair and watch. Should be good for a few broken bones...Forumdestroyer, when are you going to try the stairs?
  13. You need to ski trails more! I'll do 15+ laps in a row, where all I do is push as hard as I can. It's a great way to get in shape
  14. She does have some pretty sweet edge angle. I wish her the best of luck in Mammoth, gotta boost those points... and she's not so bad looking either
  15. Poconooceancity wasn't saying Bear has an advantage, he was saying the other mountains do, which they do. They have alot more room/vertical to work with...
  16. Did a quick 15k vert tonight, nothing big, slightly cold w/o my mask on. I fixed my boot issue, I no longer have an unbelivable pain in my left boot so that helped. I brought out my old GS:9s today. Well, they are no GS:11, let me tell you that. They ARE softer, which was nice, and didnt beat me up as much, but the stability and edge grip failed in comparison to the GS:11s. Conditions were really nice, I did about 11 laps on Challenge. My shoulder was feeling so great that I had the confidence to just point the skis pretty much down the fall line from the top, and make about 7 big super-g turns down the whole trail, it was so empty. I did a run down switchback, and two runs through the park. It was a nice night, I'll be back out again tomorrow
  17. What other trail that is not heavily traveled could they use. The logical choice (one could argue that) is Sidewinder. Lazy Mile would be good, but too much traffic beceause it's a great trail for intermediates. Not switchback, that's worse then sidewinder I think. Paradise? Well MAYBE, but that's a heavily traveled beginner trail, and I don't think they would give that up for a park.
  18. It was evident that not everything was out, there was alot of empty space that could have been used. I'm sure they'll be rolling out more stuff later this week for the holiday week.
  19. You were there at 4 buddy Considering I pulled in when you were getting your boots on, and I walked in before you did, and I was riding the chair up the first time at 3:56
  20. I took my 2nd run through the park and all I could say was . That first hit is just gut wrenching. Oh the carnage! There is no landing, the landing is the trail where it gets steeper, just a big launch pad that's 5" tall. It's insane. They really widened the trail, and the REALLY HUGE table top is where I saw freeridintre get all the way to the landing, it was pretty insane. They had the stairs in, which are just ready to kill people. And oh yea, the first rail int he park was yes, you guessed it, NOT RIDE ON.
  21. s ome stretching + heat + ben gay + prescription ibprofen and I'm set to ski. Still hurts, but I'm sucking it up.

    Ski tune up

Almost all ski shops have them, it's called a stone grinder. Nestors has one, the Loft has one, Bear Creek's shop has one, Camelback's shop has one. And yes, it grinds away part of your edges/base to reveal all new metal/base material.
  23. it takes 15 minutes to sharpen/wax, wait an hour, and 15 minutes to scrape/brush, it doesn't take days...it's even quicker when they've got a roto brush. Of course they can be done on the 23rd
  24. <---Does all the hosting at Blue Mountain, sorry Zach It's usually better if the host is the ahead of the group Sidewinder opens tomorrow! I'm looking forward to it, as much as I'm a park hater, people have witnessed me getting airborn in the lower park, and I plan on doing so in the sidwinder park...
