  1. The ones I saw two years ago were 100-104 which is tiny. I'd actually like them to go the other way, after a couple of hours of riding my boots are like slippers, probably just need to ride in stiffer boots anyways.
  2. Do they have the adjustable last ? I wonder if they are still doing that.......
  3. What size ? I need new touring boots....
  4. The BC course isn't like techy tough but it's a challenging course. It's rather flat, so the trick is to ski it in a way in which you can hold your speed through to the flats at the bottom, additionally they almost always through one gate waaaaay out right about were your at max speed. It's one of those deals were you ski and go that's not very difficult but then find you can't really move your time. The pace setter there is sometimes really really fast, occasionally they would sort of curve your results because he's just so far above everyone else. Some really good racers there, the dude without the foot is amazing. Nastar is great and you'll be a better skier if you put some time in.
  5. Dude those pics remind me of that smell, that spring skiing smell....jonesing bad
  6. LOL, Does Mtn Creek still have the tents that smell like socks.
  7. I realize I sound like that old dude who's just angry because the places he liked inevitably changed. LOL It changes these places though, Solly is a great example. Solly was relatively quiet. It wasn't the LCC madhouse for pow and it lacked the younger crowd that hangs out at Brighton. Probably the best day I've ever had skiing was at Solly. It snowed like 4 feet in last couple of days and 20" or so the night before. Blue bird with the diamond dust shit. Solly had an old double that ran right up to the patrol shack across from where the village now sits, you can run a gate out there and traverse out past middle slope to where it runs into the permanent closure. It's maybe 1000 vert but big old bristle cone pines and little 5ft cliffs, my cousin and I ran that shit bell to bell with neck fucking deep blower. My legs were so cooked that the last few runs I just pointed them straight down hill. It was the most perfect day of skiing ever and at the new Solly that prolly ain't going to happen. In part the village and that mentality brought in an entirely new set of people and lots of them. It's like they are trying to make every place the same. PS Burke is the shit, go there.
  8. You know I agree with you but here's the funny thing about the NEK and Killy. Alot of times the skiing is better at Killy. I love Jay, I've had some of my best pow days at Jay, truly amazing experiences but the vast majority of the time it's an ice block in the middle of no where. Stowe is the best mtn in the NE but all the gondy shit feeds to two trails, the one that crosses over to forerunner quad is a fucking disaster by noon. Spruce is a joke except for the racing trail and is jam fucking packed with newbs. Toll house is cool as shit but it's old and flat and that god damn double takes 20 mintues to go five yards. The quad is the real jem but again if it hasn't snowed your down to really 4 or 5 main trails that get beat to fuck. Smuggs is cool but you got to go all the way around and they don't have the uphill capacity for the numbers they get. Also they have the meanest fucking lifites ever who can never shut up about putting the bar down. BV is dope too but we both know that shit ain't even in the same universe as Killy. Killy is the 2nd highest ski area mtn in VT, it has a billion places to stay and eat. It's 1 1/2 to 2 hours closer than Stowe and gets nearly as much snow. It has a mother fuck ton of trails and lifts, now alot of there trails intersect with alot of other trails which is dangerous with their clientele but you got a billion options in terms of how you get to lift X. Killy is cheaper and generally has a longer season. It also has a disk poma that is crazy cool with a handle and a launch that is even gnarlier than Cirque at Snowmass. Lastly if it's raining you can ride Skyeship and pretty much be dry. You doing VT this year ? I thought you were going west only......
  9. Root I love you dude but that is the representation of everything evil and unholy about modern skiing. Its another Intrawest faux euro monstrosity buttfucked in to an existing environment. Stratton was a VT deal until the late 70's when the current owners bought Bromely. The next year the weather sucked and Moore and Munger bought Stratton on the cheap. They then sold Bromely to Magic Mtn and installed the gondy and began work on the village. Eventually they got old and sold Stratton off to the Japansese who then sold it to Intrawest in 94. At this point the village really took off, I mean that's Intrawest's deal. Show up, crap money into a shitty knock off village that looks exactly the same everywhere, add in some lifts and call it a day. When you inevitably shit the bed ask the Canadian gov't for money because you got them in a pickle over the Olympics. It's ugly, it doesn't fit VT or Stratton, it's not organic and it furthers this concept that snow sports are a country club like experience as well as the real estate scam business model. I hope these villages burn to the ground along with the 115$ ticket business model. Shit DV is in the 80's and they carry your skis and the food is amazing, for 100+ Stratton wants they better be giving blowjobs on the gondy.
  10. Long range stuff is your probabilities, it's not a guarantee, it's the weather services saying according to the data you have a 70% chance of a cold winter due to the three oscillations and you have a 20% chance of a normal winter and a 10% chance of a warmer winter. Obviously you can still end up with a warm winter and they weren't wrong additionally that will be presented as NWS says we are having a cold winter. Weather is really really fucking complicated, the amount of variables in a storm are almost incalculable, furthermore when one adds in small variations in geography your really talking about stuff that is far beyond current human capabilities. We don't know enough, we don't have accurate enough models, we haven't observed every possible variation and we don't have the computing power, additionally nobody wants to pay to make some of those things better. You and I don't mean you RD I mean the global you, wants it's going to rain at 8am and be 50 degrees and at 10:23am it will stop raining and be 55 degrees etc etc etc which simply is not possible. The weather services are amazing, they are generally quite accurate which is a hell of an accomplishment
  11. I know right I just couldn't muster the effort to post 10000 words as I was too busy laughing. A killy village and Pico interconnect are the two white whales of NE skiing. On the Pico interconnect the chances of that happening are like 1%. First and foremost there is an owl or something that is endangered to deal with, that is a 10 year process that is mega fucking bucks, additionally in VT the enviro peeps are strong. From SP's point of view what is the upside, mega resorts outside of LCC/BCC are a thing of the past and they have a infrastructure problem to deal with already so why add to that. They ripped out the top section of Ram's Head Quad and cut at least parts of the interconnect trail 15 years or so ago but that shit hasn't been seriously discussed in 10 years. The village idea has been floating around since at least the early 90's with lots of groups getting permits and what not, the closest anyone ever got was the killington grand which is almost never full kinda like Killy in general. Killy hit there peak in the early 90's right around the time ASC purchased them, at that point snowboarding was blowing up so lot's of new money and fewer destination type places to spend it. Developers figured out there were alot of existing places in VT that you could buy, blow some cash into with high speed lifts, new lodges and terrible faux euro villages and make some loot. Overnight Snow, Stratton, Bromely, Stowe, Okemo etc. got new owners with money to burn. Killy was no longer the place for NE skiers that weren't Kennedy types that went to the Bush. Now they have a fuck ton of lifts and lodges most of which see 40% of capacity and the whole thing unravels until the OG landholders, SP, finally buy the place back essentially in bankruptcy. They have spent the last couple years getting rid of infrastructure they don't need and trying to get back some of that crowd they lost to the other mtns. As you so rightly pointed out the lodging in Killy is generally old and run down so to a certain extent the village makes sense however the access road peeps have money and influence and they aren't going to like this so expect a bitch fest from them. Additionally alot of the riders they lost are never coming back or at least they aren't doing the Killy only type trips of the past. Killy is always coming up with unrealistic plans were they regain the cache and riders they once had, these plans inevitably crap out at some point in the future or eventually lead to the next bankruptcy and purchase by new owner X who is totally gonna bring them back to the late 80's early 90's. SP has significant assets, assuming the state and local gov't plays ball they probably can secure the funding. Will it work ? Probably not but it will be fun to watch them try. As an aside I love Killy, I grew up skiing there alot, my family still goes there almost every year and it's a great mtn but the Beast of the East days are long gone and probably for good.
  12. Skiing ain't all about max vert or high speed lifts or how many Mexicans are making your food and cleaning up after your nasty ass. Skiing is not accounting, it's not a straight numbers game. Mt. Slow is a shitty uninteresting hill, it's a slightly steeper Okemo were wanna be's and never will be's feel good about their skiing because the entire mtn is maybe pushing 15 degrees. NF at Snow is decent but everything goes Paradise like steepness after the first 100 yards. If all your ever doing is going to the same places because they have max vert or because there cheeseburgers come on nice china and they pay people to be nice to you your missing so much of the experience. Your home mtn is different, if your slogging away putting down 20/30 days it's reasonable to not want to spend 3/4 of that time on the lift but travel is about a new experience. Instead of pizza your going with meals in a gas state, the entire point is something different, something new. 10" new inches and I'll ride at Denton over Snow everyday of the week. Pow skiing is unreal but pow skiing will only a couple of other people on slow ass lifts is change your life kind of shit. No rush, just big shit eating grins and riding the same line just 5ft over run after run with a nice break to shoot the shit and absorb all that you are experiencing. At that time and space, vert and the drive and the food/lodges might as well be toilets on Mars who gives a fuck, in your mind they don't even exist. Expand your horizons, see and experience all this world has to offer, all the various takes on what snow sports are and cut the accounting max value bullshit because your missing out. Ride Magic, ride Denton, ride Pow Mow and whatever you do don't fucking spend money in some corporate fuck head's idea of what a European village looks like shoe horned in to rural southern VT.
  13. hahahahhahaahhaha remember this shit and then watch how this shit actually goes.
  14. Temps coming back to normal here.....don't sleep on Denton, funny little mtn but they got some legit steeps for PA.
  15. High Pressure in place so no major changes for the next couple of days. Jet stream is riding kind of high so lots of warm air from the south west is flooding the region. Beyond that I don't know probably oscillation stuff but I haven't really been looking.
  16. Indeed, generally you'll see more daily 2-4" rather than giant bombs but it's more patterns than say a rule. Summer was rather cool which also tends to indicate a colder than avg winter but who knows, weather is like gambling all your ever doing is playing the odds.
  17. ^ Alot of indicators for a very cold winter, really cold generally means very little natural snow for PA. All the oscillations have been negative for some time which is pretty strange and a powerful indicator of future weather generally.
  18. I'm sure I did but I don't remember anything specific about it. I'm not the most observant person when it comes to people, my wife makes a big deal about getting her hair cut but fuck if I can tell the difference which inevitably leads to you didn't tell me you liked my new hair kind of conversations. I wonder if I could get her hair dude to text me.............
  19. If you need something like got to have it let me know and I can see if my sister can hook you up. Saw your pic on FB your looking sleek dude, gonna be mad fast this year.
  20. I stand corrected, I would have to check the book but its probably more in the 3200-3500 range.
  21. The Yolo girl sounds very.....fun, well probably only for a few nights. It's only weird if you are thinking of me, LOL. My wife has big titties and is generally fit so that's cool I guess. LOL She does make excellent rice krispies which is cool.
  22. Lift's aren't their's, they purchased old shit from someone else hence the goofy arrangement. They look like early Ctec's, Ctec peeps were from Penn State and did their first chair at 7 Springs. Maybe they then sold that shit off to Alpine. I'm pretty sure it's at least a Ctec hanger. Maybe a Riblet design but the tower doesn't look like riblet. It's a strange design because I'm not sure why you would go to all the trouble to split the bench. IDK could be Borvig, they made some very strange chairs that you can check out at Suicide Six. Fuck man this is so tough because alot of this shit is mishmash crap....the chairs look like riblets. I'm pretty sure the older chairs at Blue are Hall chairs, Hall's have those kinds of towers. Carlo's are similar but have lots of trussing on the towers and Poma's have a very distinct Y tower arms.
  23. I'm surprised this even had to be brought up, didn't anyone here see Mean Girls ? Halloween even if you are married is an excuse for women to dress like sluts. My wife is very J Crew but every Halloween its like who the fuck are you, normally makes for crazy, drunken sex which when your married tends to be the exception. LOL
  24. BV is a sleeper mtn. First when alot of the MRV and surrounding area is on wind hold, it's open. Additionally it's actually not that far from Stowe as the crow flies even though the drive is considerably longer. They are the only mtn in VT I know of that has night skiing. They have nice glades albeit shortish and no a ton of vert, the real secret however is from the top near the radio tower there are mother fuck tons of legit BC options. The one in the Goodman book is easily a 20 min ski and something like 3800vert. The only thing to watch out for is if your traveling on 89, particularly north towards Burlington, very high winds come rushing out of Mansfield across the Bolton Flats and generally fucks shit up on 89. Last year there was a multi car accident with fatalities due to this phenomena. If you don't hang out alot up there you may not be aware of it but it's no joke, being dead ain't nothing to fuck with.
  25. Kokomo, you get their fast and then take it slow............not sure it's way early. Is this a delusions of grandeur thread ? Shit that list is a mile long but I do really want to do a Baffin Island trip. I'll do A$$pen, some vt stuff, maybe JH if I can get my paper straight.
