You mean the UTA or a private service ? UTA is all dependent on your driver and where you are staying. Downtown salt lake its surface tram thingy to bus depot to the hill with the last leg being a local. The good news is they run pretty much all the time, when its chains and 4x4 the buses still run and they run relatively late. Its also dirt cheap. The bad news is if you get a sunday driver the last leg between the hill and the depot can take god damn fucking forever. Years ago I got in at 10ish and wanted to ride at Brighton and do the afternoon night dealio there. Driver was old and in no hurry, shit was clear and it took 1 hour and 1/2. Lady at night I guess had a hot date and we were back in SLC in 30 minutes. ? If your out in Sandy or something this is less of an issue though you could just bum a ride in Sandy.

I think he was out of western PA, state college kid that rode at the rail jam at Tussey, he rode with my cousin and some western pa dudes I knew. If not they must be identical twins. It takes different strokes for different folks but Laurel Highlands do as much as 200" a year and the knob by far has the best chance for seeing that 200". Unless I am wrong the Knob is the second highest place in the state and its has legit glades with real actual steeps and lots of shit in the area. Now if you want a back rub and nice hotel room and something other than microwaved hamburgers SS is your place but I don't go skiing to get my dick sucked. The real over looked jem of PA is up in the PA Grand Canyon area, lots of snow relatively speaking and wicked wicked steeps...self propelled only. There is a book apparently about ski touring in that area but I have never come across it.

The Knob is by far the best hill in PA. Good steeps, best chance for real snow and legit tree skiing. There are logging "roads" cut all over the fucking place up there.........and of course Stemboggen.

How often does it dump 2ft on Elk ? Once in a blue moon right, now it doesn't dump a ft on Stowe as much as say Utah but it does snow a hell of alot more in the NEK than it does at Elk mtn. That's a fucking fact end of story, elk is a decent hill in NE PA, it ain't even the best hill in PA and maybe every once in a blue moon the stars align and the best snow is at Elk but that's a fucking long shot and it still doesn't change the fact that its 1000vert of 20 degree low angle straight down the fall line with slow ass doubles. I've skied Elk a bunch and will never understand the knob slobbering it gets. Its ok for NE PA but there are far better places to ski the next state up which isn't that far from Elk. They have bigger hills with much better terrain and alot better chances for real actual legitimate snow fall. Shit little Middlebury Snow bowl or Suicide Six has 1000x more pow days than Elk fucking Mtn and people can actually shut up about how cool Suicide Six is. LOL

I wanted to post that too but it had no bigger message for the thread, except don't get molested. I had a season pass at Bear for years, its a good little mtn. Everyone there tries to do the absolute best they can do, sometimes mother nature fucks them in the ass sometimes she doesn't. Whatever its PA......the biggest bull shiter is Elk, its like VT but in PA !!!! Except its nothing like VT, buddies running knee deep blower off Madona at Smuggs on Sunday, meanwhile at Elk its disco dirt and marketing.

This is actually right, the problem is they have way too much debt in relation to revenue. Lots and lots of ski areas have or had made this mistake. You load up on debt because banks will lend it to you because you have collateral, you figure with all the improvements you'll get lots of new money to cover your increased debt load. Then inevitably shit happens like opening your water park two seasons late or whatever and now although you still have that same core group of customers you can't make ends meet because your debt load is so high. So they restructured their debt and kicked the can a couple months, the underlying problem is still the same too much debt. If you made me guess they will end up selling it to a group of peeps who can get a debt write down, they smartly will realize they need to be careful with financing and the place will be one of those middle of the road sleeper deals. There is nothing wrong with that, if I have to go to Southern VT, I go Magic rather than Bromley. Money does not equal good skiing.
