Delmarva Power is considerably higher in a tiny, completely flat state that almost always has better weather. We are lucky in that we have a shit ton of installed capacity, we also produce alot PA is second to Illinois if I'm not mistaken. Some places out west are insane and TX is the absolute dumbest, worst system ever invented. It's like 3 to 4 cents more expensive than PA and it doesn't even work.

What's crazy is PPL is one of the cheapest right now, pretty much anyone who isn't Kentucky is 20$ higher per mw https://www.pjm.com/about-pjm/learning-center/price-ticker.aspx

Before I forget Lower Mount Bethel which is a 600mw NG plant above Easton I know for a fact is all outside. Rf sends teams to plants all year to inspect and assist with winterizing the plant and I know they went to LMB specifically to help them get their shit together. Martin's creek is also old as shit and had a fire a year or so back but that's 1700mw that is considerably less reliable when it's cold. BEC is pretty new and as far as I know is good during the cold.

The grid at total must be balanced, Palmerton isn't alone, all of ec up into Canada is all the same grid. In an overall sense it's kwh in vs out that 31 agencies in six regional entities mange. For us the regional agency is Reliability First for NERC, basically after the big nyc blackout in the 80s the connected everything in the EC and appointed load balancers so it couldn't happen again. Everyone here is also PJM so it's probably a mix of rates and capacity. Basically they could produce more juice but nobody wants to pay x per kwh so they don't produce. So during the fracking run up basically all the drilling companies had to be producing and finding new plays at all times due to their high use of credit. This meant no matter the price they kept pumping out NG, the price got so low Limerick power station could barely compete on price in PJM and bam 1000mw is offline. The other big one is retirement of something like 6gw in the MISO district which is the Midwest. Again we all have to be balanced out so overall for 2022 we had a 17.6gw shortfall which is huge. Nerc says since 2021 winter the reserve margin has fallen by 6 or 7% although installed capacity is 3x the reserve requirement. What does that all mean ? Basically the Midwest is low on output so particularly when load is high we send them juice, up to 13k GW. Additonally because they cant generate enough they purchased interconnect agreements which also limits the total number out there across all districts. Now we can produce mad electricity, plenty for everyone but and this is key not at the prices PJM wants to role at so instead they take the big loads offline until nighttime when the load generally drops. Lastly a shit ton of plants aren't winterized, there a mad plants were the boiler, turbine generator enclosures are exposed to the weather. Additionally a lot of valves, gages, instruments that are necessary for running the until aren't protected at all. The big recommendation is for enclosures and wind breaks. If you want more info read this, particularly pages 9, 12 and 24 - https://www.rfirst.org/resource-center/2023-01-23-winter-and-long-term-reliability-assessment-presentation/

I just knew it would have creepy dolls, its a nice house and all that but I wonder midweek what the demand is.

They did that once in our district and it was so unpopular with everyone and such a waste they scrapped it. In 42 years of living here that may be their only good decision.

1/13-1/15 weekend roll call thread.

Outside of foot injuries or similar I'll never understand wearing shoes in your own house. It's your house don't you want to be comfortable? Never mind that shoes are legit dirty. -
Best day at blue all season, what used to be an hr but is now 1 1/2 hr drive became 2 1/2 but it was worth it. Everything is good but pdis was an absolute carpet, almost silent skiing which is rare at blue. Lazy was efortless arc and park as it was a hair slow but still most excellent. Crowds weren't bad first thing but they were definitely picking up throughout the morning. No matter my age there is still something about waking up to snow, the bizarre weirdness of it, the sublime beauty and the transformative nature but even that is not as good as showing up to the hill and it actually looks like skiing.

I got fucked by work but could get an hour in, like Ridge said best snow of the year so far. First run down upper main was a carpet of perfection and everything except for a few glacial spots skied well. A little weirdly busy but the best is seeing big ass whales everywhere. They blown on rasins forever and finally now it's getting somewhere. Should be a really good weekend on tap.

It was a good day but snow definitely took a dive after yesterday's hero snow. First run down main there was so much debris and the right side was pretty uneven. Lazy was the best run again but suffered the same fate as dis, with all the people at highly variable speed if you chose the wrong school of fish you were absolutely closed out. Super good to see them pound razors so that can be done with. Forecast looks to be Gucci Gold so should be a dope week coming up. Had to stop at the store on the way home, people were losing their minds on the wind but I think it's kinda fun to see. My front door seal is whistling Dixie which it's never done before.

Are you a front side parker ? I keep my eye out for anyone I know but even when I see you around I couldn't figure out if you were coming out up at the top lot or what.
-
Super super good day to be out and about. One of the best snow conditions in my opinion, main first thing was arc arc arc arc and lazy was maybe even better and held up nicely. Dis is dis its good but that run out is getting spicy for the beginners which is the cherry on top. Parking lot was tip top, beer Jesus had zombie dust which is like an instant flashback to my early craft beer days and lo and behold a CBI trip was in order. The juggy maiden has long since moved on to the glitter and glam of the west end saloon but it was most nice to get back in their with even better company. I cannot fathom how there is a way in which tomorrow isn't mad brick, all the semis were really struggling on my way home so super glad to make the most of today.

Marcy is amazing, particularly for an EC mtn it feels big. In all the times we tried the conditions were never good enough to ski it from the top. The ski trail was super cool but always wanted to ski off the back, I think it's called lions head area but I'd have to get my green book out.

Yes and some of the ones in the high peaks, many moons ago there was a TR from Peggy O

Oh fuck, I saw them bring in the ambulances and I didn't see BFG's crew at all but hope those dudes are good, they are good people.

Mbike once came to meet me at work to borrow some avy gear for WF and he walked right past me. There is a guy i work with now that apparently skis at blue but he would never recognize me. I don't take it as an insult, most people are very boring and have no range. I am very good at what I do, be it skiing, work, fucking....what you would find funny is I do alot of speaking for cles and in work townhalls, I'm also good at that. This is the way, but when you get at passing distance whatever way they set their feet go the opposite. It's an arc like a car, so it's not possible to occupy the same space if your timing is right. It's like passing a semi, don't fuck around pass or stay behind.

🤣🤣 I bet their are some feet dudes who hangout around blue just to watch people put their boots on Quad and new sixer run, all three got lots of new netting to make fancy cattle chutes and all threw have designated season pass lines after Sunday. Weekday the old sixer only ran Monday when it was packed, like Saturday packed and my guess is it's only going to run if it's super busy. The ikon people I talked to Monday seem to be gone but thats just randos I happen to talk to. Besides Monday it's been ski on at least until early afternoon, my gut says the super packed lines shit is a weekend/rando ikon day thing that will be harder to predict and consequently be a tough one for blue. -
Lessons you cut the line because it's almost always timed and you pay out the ass plus it's assumed the instructor will fill chairs. BMR are a necessary evil I think, too much money for them to turn down and I do like going by them as they don't get passed alot so they are always surprised. My absolute favorite is when they are dicking around mid lower main strung out horizontaly like Christmas lights. You get the motor going and from the very top just go straight at them, do not deviate do not for even the billionth of a second unsquare your body from the fall line, go faster and faster directly at them and watch them squirm. You want to have a confab every 10 turns gtfo the trail or at least line up and down the hill. Someone I know used to like to use them and ski patrol on challenge as gates, one time he got so close going so fast I swear the dude pooped his pants. Good times

Sat,Sun and Mon...... should be a wild ride -
I'm just glad to see some improvement, I'm sure it will be nuts to butts but some simple things will really help. Interested to see if they are ready tomorrow, all week they've been good but it's easy when it's empty.
-
They have dedicated season pass lines but they also upped their cattle chute game all around. They had pleeb chutes setup at like 910 on the new sixer which is good for them.

Rode from 9 to 11, c1er and Oz in the house otherwise empty didn't even see BFG's crew. Main was hard stiff resonator cord with odd debris piles, lazy and dis held softer turns and the big right was in good shape to slut it up. Headwall of coming soon was also pretty firm but smooth enough that it didn't matter. The dis runout continues to confound the beginners which at the very least is fun to watch. I would imagine there will be an hour or two where it's perfect hero snow as it was slowly getting softer. It was pretty quiet overall but you can tell there are more people early, I imagine this weekend with be quite busy. Skied with a dude named Jack on armadas, he was keen perhaps to make aquanticies so if he shows up here he's legit.
