Last year my cousin got his in Feb and it still worked.

This is serious shit, they have proposed cutting 45 of the 55 full time workers at the Bell. http://www.adirondackdailyenterprise.com/page/blogs.detail/display/942/List-of-DEC-positions-scheduled-to-be-cut.html Some of these people can choose early retirement and some can choose to take a lower paying no benefits position but bottom line is NY state is broke and people at Bell are getting the axe. With all these full time operators getting canned I'm sure there not thinking about making sure the public knows when they are going to blow snow, additionally I'm sure there is a chance that they may not open or be in just a weekend mode. Lot of politics on his - http://online.wsj.com/article/AP1b7fb19d2496453bb564d9ec85d4aca4.html so I'm sure some of this is just bs posturing but its a fucked up situation for sure. Beast riders check out Platekill, great mtn.

I hate that too and I'm a smoker, rip the filter off and stick it in your pocket. Butts take like 9 million years to decompose.
-
Fucking stupid but the smokers are to blame, its common courtesy don't smoke in the line and ask before lighting up on the lift. Whatever I'll just smoke in the woods or on the lift, its Pico so nobody is on them anyways.

Gallatin and the surrounding area are in worse shape, the base layers has a nice bond but there is a shit layer from snow that sat, this layer is now three to four feet and has let some big slides rip at Big Sky on Northern aspects. Add in a serious sustained wind and that's a more complicated situation.
-
Its probably actually fine for the most part, that's alot of snow but its very dry snow for the Tahoe area and the lack of a base actually helps you in a storm like this. The snow from this has and will continue to consolidate at a pretty decent pace but with the relatively steady temps you won't see facet growth. The pace of the snowfall means the pack won't be able to support the load up so quickly on steep shit and the high intensity winds would create some crazy wind slab above tree line. What you don't want is that shit to sit around for along time with no new action, then it would be like a Colorado snowpack. lulz Most stuff in the trees at a reasonable angel (30ish or less) on a non-north/east aspect would be fine. BTW Squaw SNOTEL is showing 39 on the ground with consolidation, at that elevation they will probably pick up 18-24 today and tonight and end up with a total snowpack of around 4/4.5 feet which is alot less than 8ft. South of the lake is reporting less with the Heavenly station showing 32" on the ground.

Oh shit I forgot about that one...gotta go find it, pure sickness. I assume you saw the desert spines one, probably the best use of POV I've ever seen.
-
I have one but I'm mostly a after work/night skier.

Look at the stuff Provo is doing with a hand mount - http://ianprovo.smugmug.com/HD-Video/Skiing-Snowboarding/8582009_FZWkQ#565667850_4c5H9-A-LB There is some other dude who has some kind of rig where its about five feet over head and three feet behind him, super cool angle. It only gets boring if its the same old thing, new mounts and interspersing it with traditional video is where its at.

Blue's operating costs per acre are probably much higher than say Jackson or Aspen. Blowing snow is retarded expensive and Blue actually has to make all its money off skiing too as I believe they have no real estate schemes or hotels and such. 700$ is a alot of money but all that electricity and water don't come cheap.

We can see the pattern change now which is awesome...for some reason I got a feeling this will be a relatively short winter but with tons of snowfall.
-
Got a gopro and love it, tired of waiting for the backpack kits though. Would love even a little screen to see what its actually recording. The helmet cams are great because you can come up with all these crazy rigs for new angles.

What's in store for you this winter?
Johnny Law replied to rideordie7's topic in Jack Frost & Big Boulder
For the first time bring some candy or whatever treat they really like in your pockets, if they are really young like around 2 you sometimes need to motivate them to actually get to the point were you can go downhill. Second be careful on the lifts, mad people like to leash their kid up on the hill and then forget that there is lots of room for them to go under the bar on the lifts. Dude I know has a carabiner with some webbing and then locks his kid off to the lift, pretty quick and simple. -
I'd ski at Bromely 1 billion times before I would got to Slokemo, Mt. Slow or Flatton.

Some kind of Psyops hmmmmm

Lots of people want to be garbage men, the guy who picks your trash up doesn't make a whole lot but running a landfill is sweet fucking gig and the owners make butt tons of money. The whole argument is bullshit though, I mean I'm pretty sure nobody ever said when I grow up I want to sell tombstones or be a tax attorney. The world doesn't quite work like your 6 grade guidance counselor said it did. Fuck you Mrs. Greenwall I'm supposed to be a race car driver!!!!!!
-
What the mother fuck is all this bitching about life choices and income disparity. Shut the fuck up and embrace the upcoming pattern change. Cold weather is on it's way.
-
Lulz, if there is fresh snow around go across the street to Magic, don't waste that shit on Bromley.
-
I've never had a problem, if your smart no one will even know you are there.
-
Do you have a car ? Do you have a sleeping bag ? Then I have a easy way for you to save 1/3 of your budget. Unless your driving a smart car there is plenty of room and it can be pretty comfortable. The best part is you're always right at the hill. I car camped for years and it was a great way to spread money out, now I don't got to VT every weekend and have some more money.
