I had meetings this morning and couldn't ski until 10. I thought it was a repeat of yesterday but a bit harder. The new six stopped forever yesterday and was off today, I saw the snowmobiles go back and forth a bunch so they are trying to fix something. Personally razors is good opposite the others as with all their race stuff it's much harder colder snow.

If you go across the bridge on the right is a dope ass restaurant from a former ski racer. The back dinning room looks like the castle from Beauty and the Beast. Vail Resorts sucks but Vail is amazing, just going out to Blue Sky. No mint though

I don't know what the day rate is at Jackson but full ikon it's 5 days at any of the big dogs. At DV with a renewal it's more like 4.3. Not saying shit just that even full ikon is super easy to break even if your going certain places.

C1er was the only person I saw in the house. 7 busses from East Penn but they went tubing. Snow particularly on the main st side was perfect. Soft up top with hyper grip on a super fast hard layer underneath. Absolutely supersonic and the real treat was with good snow and nobody around you could send the airs to the moon. I did Raceway, mid, lower three times in a row to get floaty on the riser airs. Main was just as good and just as fast, switch a little firmer from the shade but you could send the risers to the ISS. The razors side was a bit harder snow and razors itself was a no go one as it was closed but mostly as it looked like the surface of the moon. Challenge and Coming Soon were more like the main st side and it is so nice to not have to put the brakes on. Shit was top notch and so was Tuesday with Atomic, if you can get out the last couple have been surprisingly dope. The bad news is the hill did take quite a hit, there are spots all over and the upper left side of sidewinder is gone though they could push the humps. With the weather coming up I think the clock is ticking.

Rode with Atomic this morning, surprisingly big crowd for a Monday though not crowded. It wasn't bad but it wasn't good, they kept blowing last night which is hard to complain about but it did make for a generally hard surface. Eagle eyed Atomic spotted that they had 5 or so puddles on lower razors that was classic blue. Challenge and Side where best though with all the guns on nothing was better than a 5. Good base going and they were going at it hard particularly in the flats.

Damn dude Ascutney too ! That was a very cool hill, especially the dark side of the moon stuff but i had no idea they had a t bar going. VT environmentalists convinced the home owners after that shitty family had it and went bust to protect it. As far as i know zero development can occur there ever, not even a patrol shack.

Both days were way better then I would have thought. Good to make turns with everyone, vt had better snow but cheese peeps make for worse company.

Heel up fast man ! -
The six had good short tree shots back at least way back and out the back is a cow pasture kinda farm thing. They should have kept the name though I think, nobody comits suicide because of the name of a tiny ski resort in Woodstock.

Sick sick sick trip ! Pats peak had the only EC FWT skier way back but God damn it got fancy. Cochrans is the skiing family like from way back but also Ryan Cochran Seigle. Sooooo fucking dope you went there sometimes you can't even tell if they are open or not. NE is deep right now, Jay has more snow than alot places out west. It's the best I've seen since at least 14.

Today was way better than I thought and for a spring day super nice. It's a rare treat to be able to actually see the trails. While not every single square mm was mint I didn't think anything was bad and most of it was quite playful. If tomorrow is anything other than awesome/terrible I'll be shocked.

My Ikon said everytime I went through the gates at killy that I had 9 days which makes no sense but going to get up there for the only late double dipper season maybe ever. Between that and the loaf/river you could ski late into the EC season, reggae fest I feel like is always right about the end of EC lift served.

Get plenty of thc........ or is it's tlc ? I'm not sure but I did ride today around noon and the hero had been pushed into piles and it was surprisingly rowdy. I spent alot of time in the air, the super sun was nice though. Whenever it refreezes it could be brutal but for now it's pretty fucking soft. They fancied up the razors for the race and they have all kinds of fancy sponsors now. -
It's pretty rare that the skiway is open on both sides of the road so for them this is a banner year. Someone on the lifts told me whaleback was having trouble which would make sense as they haven't had much open but I haven't followed them since the park days.

Go skiing there........ I'll be there Sat/Sun and maybe a noon session today.

Ragged is much bigger, newer and nicer. The lifts are old and slow at the skiway and the lodge is small and old. That said while I had good days at both I preferred the skiway mostly due to the history and it's like a trip back in time. Ragged is also very rolly and I prefer my trails to pour it on and the Don Schuss had a bit more hill. Honestly you could do both in the same day no problem. I had skied every trail at the skiway in like 2 or 3 hrs and Ragged would probably be more like 4 or 5 hrs. The skiway too is like $40 or something, i spent more on merch than the ticket. Ragged has a small main parking lot and while it won't be killington or something I would bet it will be significantly busier than the skiway. I would check the skiways website to see if they are racing. It's mostly used as gates practice for Dartmouth/Ford Sayer and there can be alot of them plus it will close the Don Schuss . Best food nearby in my opinion is Tuk Tuk Thai, they have two locations but if you like Thai that's the best I've eaten in VT, NH or ME.

They are all in a book club, right now is From Heaven to Arcadia: The Sacred and the Profane in the Renaissance Ingrid D. Rowland.....gotta keep fresh on their Renaissance painters. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sick trip! Always looooove hitting alot of places and you picked the good ones. Copper once they got early season training from half the national teams is super dope. The village donut lady was awesome though someone told me she's gone......

Super jelly, when I woke up and it was warm I really wanted to ski but work has me on lock down

Jelly, drink a beer for me, on my way home from VT. -
A mix of solo and with peeps. I've gotten around a bit but home base has been the Kedron Inn, Ransom tavern is there and all the places on the access road are skanky to some extent.

Jackass Ski Bowl and a Silver Lesson (2/20/25)
Johnny Law replied to toast21602's topic in Other Mountains
That's some dope fucking shit and I can't think of another hill that so directly calls peeps out on a traverse. -
I had it next on my list to keep the weirdo tour going but peeps showed up and I wanted to ski with them. -----‐--‐------------------------------------ 2/20 Killington Was dope, conditions were prime the sun was out and it was quiet but nothing worth reporting on. 2/21 Loon I will preface this by saying this is snow sports industry type stuff and may be interesting to no one so feel free to stop reading. If you are familiar with the snow sports industry you are familiar with the Vail vs Ikon/Ksl but there is a third player we often forget about that is blowing unprecedented amounts of money to try and eat both their lunches in the NE. Boyne at some point realized all of boston is driving by nh and loon to ski the River and the loaf and VT 2 hrs west has people hanging off the rafters. So in 2020 they went all in and announced Loon 2030, their plan to build the most advanced resort in the US. You can read it here if your interested - https://www.loonmtn.com/flight-path-2030 In 2020 they put in the most advanced lift in NA to go 900 vert and like 2/3 of the way up the hill. Every lift has loading conveyors and two have laser overlays for your loading position. If you know me I had to go check this out. What's the verdict ? The lifts are impressive and what they want to do would put an truly insane number of people on the hill. The 8 can do 3500/hr and there plan is to put in like 6 more. The terrain is good with alot of blue twisty crusier types and some reasonable steeps. The views are quite excellent with alot of peakyness around for the NE. That's the good but the reality is they don't currently have the lodge infrastructure to support 1/20th of the people they stuff in there and even more importantly the acreage. No where in NH is above 400 and that isn't nearly enough during the week let alone on a weekend. Cool place with a dope 4 person gondy and lots of narrow old school NE twisties and there plan is impressive but not nearly there yet. If they really want to play with the big boys they will have to add a sizeable amount of terrain and more expert type steeps. I would only go there Monday through Wednesday, no shit, though I did have a good day there. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I have more skiing to do but none of it is probably interesting in a report kinda way. It's been awhile since I spent this kind of time up here and I what I'll always come back for is the straight up uniqueness of it all. There is no state with anywhere near the number of super famous wooden bowl makers or artisinal llama cheese. The snow was most excellent, like February 2014 kinda depth and it was dope as fuck to ski it.

Someone I was talking to recently claimed all their best pow days were there and Turner.....seems plausible with nobody home.

2/19 Dartmouth Skiway I have mad meetings this afternoon and could only swing a half day so I wanted to peep somewhere a bit more intimate. My first memory of Dartmouth is rich wanna be investment bankers booting and rallying but only a bit after that was I wanted to ski Dartmouth Skiway. The logical question is why ? It's like 900 vert and has two old mad slow lifts.....because it's literally ski history, short of getting a DeLorean and going back in time this is as close as you can get. The skiway is two pods across the street from eachother so I started on the Holt side as I wanted to ski their big race trail Don Warden Schuss. They only kinda groom and blow snow so I figured this would be by far the best and I was not wrong. A razors like wide strip of perfection, unlike Ragged it pours the steep on. When you get to the point were most trails ease off it goes even steeper. I ran this like 10 times it was sooo good and had that dramatic background that makes you feel like your movie skiing. On the natural snow only trails like lift line the snow was hyper hyper dry and slow which was good because there is a solid layer you can't get through so the surface is quite firm. After I skied all the Holt trails I went across the street to Winslow. This seems more like the noob area and the lift stopped about 5 times per ride. More rolling blues and greens this was set it and forget it territory where I wasn't even warming up down the hill. It honestly felt like a step back in time, super cool place to ski.
