I need a grand father clause then as I never remember to get my pass until like 3 days before. Hopefully this means they are doing OK in terms of revenue otherwise I think they'd sell as many as possible
-
I pay full price every year because I'm lazy but id pay way more to keep more people out. The best condition at blue is empty bleachers
-
The trees out at was I think called dark side of the moon near the blown out cabin on Ascutney are some of the best in vt imho

Today was boner city, nobody around, warm Temps and decent snow. If we can keep the country club for another month it should be a January to remember.

Holy fuck i love the boner city reaction emoji ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐

Opening Weekend roll call thread 12/11-12/13
Johnny Law replied to GrilledSteezeSandwich's topic in Blue Mountain
I'll be there Friday and Sunday, Saturday I have a cookie making date with my daughter. It's going to be a shit show for sure but i don't give a fuck. It will be so nice to ski and hang out with the best degens in Carbon/Lehigh County -
That's weird because some weekday mornings once people were at home for rona were busy. It will just be so nice to go skiing !!!
-
That's actually probably going to be the bigger issue, we'll get some tastes but when the hell winter shows up is anyones guess

Anyone can ride the lcc, its national park land and the resorts only rent the land under the lifts. Though there are some small parcels that are owned prior to the park but my recollection is they were trying to buy them up. Dick Bass loves to transfer shit at snowbird for better land elsewhere. Alta has a couple groomers but nothing like DV. Alta is mostly traverses that access steeper bowls or lines. A noob can ride Alta and have fun but your going to run the same 10 or so groomers all day long. Alta is 100000000x more impressive and beautiful than DV. DV looks like VT and Alta looks like real mtn skiing. The bird is even easier to get to rowdy goods and you can board there. I'd say if your going all the way to UT pick your hills on where you want to go not cost. DV is fantastic groomers but like 8 on the list of places to ride in UT

This is March all over again where we form two camps, lockdown vs no lock down which means we're all still missing the point. A lock down buys you time, that's it, if you do nothing with that time you end up back in the exact same spot down the road. This idea that humans have such control over nature is ludicrous and based almost entirely out of a fear of mortality not a response to reality. Nationally there is no enumerated power within the federal government to enact a national shutdown but he could ask for one and get some level of compliance. Wolf has said pretty emphatically that no state wide shutdown would occur, likely based on that the state Republicans would lose their shit. Regardless we are all still missing the point we talked about in March. A lockdown without a holistic understanding and addressing of humans needs both financially and mentally is ultimately meaningless. Rich people who work from home can virtue signal all day long and bleat about masks until the end of days but it won't matter one bit because starving or serious depression is far more real and dangerous than Rona. What we are trying to do is control a part of nature that existed longer than we have. That is of prime level difficulty and instead of using our best tools, imagination and creative thinking, we've done the same thing we've done with politics. X vs Y, lockdown vs no lockdown. It didn't work in March and it won't work here unless you do all the other stuff that is complicated and messy that no one wants to do. Additionaly at some level humans need to get ok with the fact of existence that we cannot control everything. Humans will die, you, I, everyone will die, diseases will kill people. These are the simple facts of existence to fixate on zero deaths is a noble but ultimately ridiculous concept. What we need is targeted, attack the low hanging fruit, do our best to mitigate and accept that the die was cast the day the virus showed up. The really really really big one is to take what we've learned and to build a society that is built to both reduce the risk and impact of such events...... but let's get real we won't do that, we'll bleat about numbers we don't understand and yell endlessly back and forth about lockdowns and who isn't wearing masks. Eventually a vaccine will come along save our bacon and well go right back to same shit that got us in this mess in the first place. We are dumb hairless apes with some real nifty tricks but we cannot run counter to nature and expect to win especially if we aren't even playing the right game.

What's up with Gasoline ? I went to Disney for a bit with my daughter and mad stations were straight up 70s style out of gas. I'm not aware of any refinery shut downs or supply interruptions but it was pretty weird to see so many with even 87.

Sorry to hear about your son ! Don't forget to take care of yourself too and posi vibes sent for a quick recovery! ++++++++

I was though I'm perhaps the least conventionaly religious person around. Religion as an idea is filing in the blanks humans don't like, Religion in practice is something else entirely. She has no real judicial niche or ethos if you will, shes a follower. Likely because she knew she was at the top of the list for some time and the only way to get knocked down is to be bold. She would be a interesting justice in that she'd for the first time really have to establish law than punt but once your there some persons really open up as it's very hard to be fired. The larger issue remains on abortion which I find to be rather ridiculous given the general state of things. Complete lunacy aside, like every sperm is sacred types the reality of the issue is one of theory vs reality. When it comes to abortion though reality seems almost irrelevant. I've always wanted to talk with a pro-lifer about the life question but I've never met one who'll do it.....the reverse is also true with pro choice types an therein lies the whole problem.

I just like how the tik tok kids are finally learning to appreciate Fleetwood mac......Stevie nicks in her day was a baaad bitch

Unless I'm mistaken this is just a rumor right? Businesses discuss all kinds of things that have no realistic expectation to ever come to fruition but to plan for potentials that are in this time increasingly off the reservation. No night skiing would open a pretty big can of worms for them, refund for pass holders that want to bounce is nice but my guess is they also already spent that money. I'd think a hybrid approach or do it like spring with no services would be the best compromise. Truthfully though nobody knows fuck all, I've bought two bikes for my daughter over the last two months and I had to go to MD and way out PA because most inventory is back ordered to March. Skiing isn't as easy to get into as biking but they could get quite a boost with pretty much nothing else going on and as far as activities go skiing is pretty rona safe by default.

old school dudes would leave the cut end with no edge but in the NE that might be super sketch
-
Its not the pocs but the gnar in pa is in the pa grand canyon area, it snows a little more there too. The oil and gas pipelines go with like 6 inches if you baby foot it. The rest of PA you gotta go when it snows and then just use your peepers. I skied rebel hill which literally goes down to 76, the big power line cut in Amity and Neversink mtn all in one season but we normally don't have that kind of snow. I've heard of rednecks sledding on slag piles and apparently its quite good but thats all heavy metals.
-
I don't think they filter for heavy metals and the like which at least in some spots is important as the daks/pa have alot of industry that puts crap in all the water though rain. CO I know has some serious serious spots with big time heavy metal contamination but unless your drinking from it all the time it probably wouldn't matter. Otherwise UV is awesome at killing everything

Honestly we had no idea until my cousin got it one trip and had a most wicked case of diarrhea for like a week and nobody wants that. I'd wager its very geography based, most of the higher points in the NE have very little food so less animals and less need to worry but I'd imagine that's different in CO. Glad to hear you dont have covid and once you get your water situation sorted you'll never have to think of it again.
-
I'm no doctor but iirc you can only get that through sexual organs or the eye which makes it near impossible to get through water. I think your thinking of cholera which is super dangerous but only in the 3rd world. Water treatment has almost entirely eliminated cholera from North America and apparently most people who get cholera don't even know.

A RMC hut care taker told me Beavers carry giardia at about 20% rate. I have no idea if this is true but he was very scientifically minded type and seemed to speak with authority. He said if you come to a water source and see beaver shit or dead animals up stream dont drink the water even with a filter. I would imagine a beaver dam would be a hard no lol The NE I think is maybe easier though as water is everywhere and if you follow it maybe 100 yards you can find a spot where a spring is bringing it up from underground. The daks have the best tasting water in the world i swear, I've drank it off rocks and stuff with no issues but your at the source and shit don't live up past about 4500ft there.

Sawyer squeeze x2, though get a bunch of their bags or like the big msr dromidery bag so you don't have to be messing with getting water alot. I would only get a pump type over the squeeze if I had to be doing a shit ton of water filtering. Beavers I heard are the worst for giardia and the like, i know one person who got giardia and that shit wrecked him for like a week until he got the antibiotic. I'll drink water untreated from springs i know are good but anything else treat your water or you'll get some real nasty stuff. I saw deaths are at their all time lowest i believe, combined with high positives and lots of testing thats a really good thing. The idea that this country was going to do it NZ style i think is just laughable.

It's a recommendation, the EU doesn't have authority over borders that's still left up to the individual members. So UK will probably still let you in but France no. As a complete aside while I get the focus on numbers, in isolation the single data point is kind of useless in terms of mitigation. Numbers had to go up when things opened, thats actually how it's supposed to work. Combine that number with hospitizations and deaths and now your getting somewhere. What you seeing now is actually I think from a singular dumb humans assumption that this would act similarly over different areas and within different groups. Western Pa never really got the first wave, if UMPC is to be believed their numbers were non existenent when sepa was blowing up. Texas too was extremely quiet while the North East was blowing up. Additionally your seeing alot of spread among younger groups while initially it trended older. The later seems to be most likely an aberration in terms of who was being tested but certainly also because young people were locked down wereas old people were locked down but by necessity had more interactions with other people. The one size fits all solutions at first are understandable, we have no idea what the scope of the actual problem is and no time to figure it out. Yet now we are beyond that and it blows my mind that we are still in complete lock down vs fully open sort of mindset. The virus didn't and will not move through the country uniformly, our policies and mitigation efforts need to reflect the reality of the situation. Few people are coming in and out of say west Texas as NYC so to assume when NYC has passed the first wave tx is safe is really laughable. Same with the way its moving through various age groups though again in the early stages we were only testing those that were the most in danger who tend to be older. If you want to do this right we have to move beyond a simple cases up vs down and actually understand what the data is telling us. Respond appropriately to potential hot spots and developing areas of concern. Blanket do x or y is frankly useless, all the bs virtue signaling in the world didn't stop people from lining up at Hershey Park today because the assumption your operating under ignores basic facts about how humans work and you can bitch all day but it isnt going to change that. This screams for a federal unified comprehensive approach but regardless of your politics i think its plain to see we don't have that. Even as a so called liberal I can't say I believe we'd be in the same place if g dubbs was in office or even Ronnie raygun. Go back to the trump election thread and there were a shit ton of voices saying this is going to cost you and shit ton more that said it won't hopefully now you can see why a basic level of competency and leadership is useful in a president. Even bigger is how this connects to other things, blm has an entirely separate agenda but if you can't see how these two things connect your eternally bound to mindless flalling about that frankly accomplishes very little. August 1 the economics of this really come into play and further down the line the societal impacts which are going to be far far larger. If we can't even see how it all connects we trap ourselves in a place we a solution is impossible. States, cities businesses need guidance that relates directly to the particular situation on the ground not blanket policies. Tx had no business locking down when nyc was because tx didn't have the numbers yet and now when you'd really like to use the lockdown tool in TX it's exponentially harder. Rona bleaters do not fundamentally understand humans and you can scream all you want but it's not going to get you anywhere. All the bs about masks and do you think one person who was anti mask converted ? No you just pushed them further into their whack job beliefs. Gov wolf is in an impossible position but they had better start adapting what it is they are doing to whats actually occurring or you risk this getting totally out of control because what nobody seems to remember is you need the buy in of the people. Fwiw I wear my mask and have been socially distant for months, nobody in my group has had rona or has spread rona. I'm not a denier what I'm saying is the way this is being handled is completely retarded and until that changes were fucked big time...... the rebound from this, the ramifications will make rona look like a walk in the park.
