I was talking to a friend about possibly doing a 4 day weekend to VT to ski somewhere--I'd really like to ski once out of PA before I retire from season-pass skiing. She mentioned that she'd be down for that but she needs to see if she can do a trip to CO first, which I would be invited on. I pointed out that I have no clue how to ski powder, so I'd be no good at that, but to lemme know if she wants to do VT. Kate pointed out that powder skiing only happens if the mountain gets snow, so it's really not that big of a deal if I don't know how to ski powder. My question to yall is how hard is it to ski powder? I recognize that the waist size of the ski has a lot to do with that, but that aside, would it be hard to pick up? I think a trip to CO would be fun (esp. since I've never been there during the winter), but at the same time, I am apprehensive of my ability to appreciate a trip there. I would appreciate your thoughts.

Whitefish is gorgeous! Sib, I so wish my friend's wedding had been during the winter months. I highly recommend people visit Whitefish--they've got a great brewery, too!

Glad you had a great last day! Or maybe a great second-to-last day if you change your mind tomorrow:)

JFBB Pre-PASR Day January 17th Jack Frost
Melissa replied to phillycore's topic in Jack Frost & Big Boulder
Oh Barb, I'd love to meet you as well. Unfortunately, I have friends in town that weekend so I won't be able to make it. I've yet to visit Jack Frost, so I'll make it a priority this winter! -
My TR.... I have no clue what time I got up there. No precip when I was booting up. I thought, hmmm should I wear my hat, nah I hate my hat, I won't get cold. Big mistake. As soon as I started skiing, it started to rain/sleet. Guess what happens to hair with such precipation? It freezes. OKay, so, I'm skiing, kind of looking freaky because my ponytail is frozen. I wasn't cold though and was having fun. Decided to check out the upper mountain for the first time this season. Wow, did the frozen precip get worse on that lift... I got off the lift FROZEN--not cold, just physically frozen. My jacket was shiney and crunchy, it was so amusing. So was my hair. Awesome. So, I do a few runs up there and down the lower runway or whichever one that is open. Very fun stuff. Each time up the lift was SO PAINFUL, literally, because the seats were covered in ice, and despite my layers of fat, my butt gets VERY cold on the lift. I actually started to wonder how long it takes to get frostbite. My goggles started to be a problem because they'd get all frozen and icky and it was hard to clean them off. I tried skiing without them, but I could only go so far before the frozen ice pellets hurt my face. I then decided it was time to go home. Plus, I was feeling ridiculous, being the stupid girl with the frozen clothes and the frozen ponytail and the lack of hat (I did not see another person there with no hat/helmet). I figured that I looked as ridiculous as I felt. I get back to my car, and realize that my hair was the least of my problems b/c my goggleless skiing yielded some serious raccoon eyes! So funny. All in all I had fun. Great music on the ipod (Jack's Manniquin), fun skiing. Precip sucked, and conditions were good.

Ah, I should totally go! And yes, today is Jan 6. Enjoy! Crap, maybe I'll drive up. If someone sees a saab in the ditch, please rescue me.

The Radisson and the Hilton are both downtown Scranton and nice. The Inn at Nichols Village is older. It's closer to Elk I guess, but you can't walk anywhere like you can in Scranton. The Colonnade in Scranton has a bit more B&B charm. It just opened (was being renovated). Their events are nice, but I do not know if their guest rooms are open. Wouldn't hurt giving them a call though if you were looking for something different. The Colonnade is about 3 blocks from downtown, real close. Scranton nightlife isn't exactley hopping, but Scranton does have a new wine bar, Dionysus, on Penn Avenue, and the Backyard Ale House (great selection of beer) in Linden.

Stratton Bus Trip leaving from NYC area. Think it's worth $95?
Melissa replied to TT C6's topic in General Chat
That seems like a long day for just one day of riding. I think a 2 day trip would be preferred. Driving there in the a.m. probably wouldn't be too bad, but I'd be concerned that I were too tired to drive from NYC back to Philadelphia in the evenign after such a long day. Otherwise, it sounds like a good deal. -
TTC6, my posts had the some sort of message as Schif's, and for some reason, when you responded to mine, you tried to insult me, but somehow you saw the light when you responded to Schif's... this is what I am talking about when I say please do not be nasty to me. My posts in this thread: @ 9:53 a.m. "TTC6, I don't think people on here give you a hard time about carpooling. They give you a hard time because you continually POST about carpooling." Your response: "OK counselor, how else are you going to make things happen unless you constantly post about it? What do you suggest?" @ 10:33 a.m. "Is there some reason for your calling me counselor? I have no suggestions. I was only pointing out that I do not think the people on PASR are against carpooling and that I think that the members here are simply tired of your continual posting about carpooling when you have not had positive results from PASR members. Has one person from PASR carpooled with you? That's a rhetorical question--my point is that I think your efforts here on PASR are in vain and that your efforts are best spent elsewhere--where people might be more receptive to carpooling. I think most people on here know that if they need a ride and want to share the drive, they could contact you." Your response: "Yes. A few times. We have FORTY PEOPLE carpooling this weekend from Philly. So, it must make sense to some people. I don't know why some PASR's have such a problem and want to cause drama. What was the point in asking the question if it was rhetorical? Criticism with no positive suggestion or solution? Although I hoped for more from an attorney, I'm not surprised. It's more polite than "Miss Attorney"." @ 10:55 a.m. "You know TTC6, I've never done anything but to try to offer to help you. If I've offended you, I haven't done it purposefully. My comments were to try to help you understand why the people on here are not receptive to your posts. Please don't be nasty to me, it's totally uncalled for. Lighten up!" Your response: "I'm not being nasty to you. I'm just pointing out the obvious facts. People criticize, but no one offers an alternative or suggestion. And yes, I expected more from a well educated attorney. And yes, I thought your response was less than friendly. No worries. I'm over it." So, let's see--I tried to explain why people were not receptive to your posts (because you post too many carpool threads) and gave you a suggestion (take it to a different forum where people are more into carpooling). You responded: "Criticism with no positive suggestion or solution? Although I hoped for more from an attorney, I'm not surprised." I did give you a suggestion, but you didn't like it. I'm not always too swift on the uptake, but I'm pretty sure that your calling me "counselor" and "Miss Attorney" were not complimentary and served to demean me, or be insulting or sarcastic. After I restated my intentions and apologized if I had accidently offended you (see my post @ 10:55 a.m.), you came back with "And yes, I expected more from a well educated attorney." The icing on the cake is that when Schif posts the same point, you respond to him with "Fair enough Schif. I respect what you are saying." To recap: The intent of my suggestions was to help explain why people are not more receptive to your posts. I do not appreciate your nastiness. Thanks.

Breaking news: NWS issues hazardous weather outlook due to wind; snow, cold on the way By Kimm R. Montone / Staff Writer Published: Tuesday, December 30, 2008 Updated: Tuesday, December 30, 2008 8:36 AM EST Wind gusts and subfreezing temperatures are expected to blanket Northeast Pennsylvania through New Year's Day. This morning, the National Weather Service at Binghamton issued a hazardous weather outlook for Lackawanna, Luzerne, Wyoming, Pike and southern Wayne counties. The forecast calls for northwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, according to the weather service. The conditions are expected to continue throughout mid-morning, when winds are expected to subside to 15 to 25 mph, according to the weather service. The cause is an arctic front sweeping across parts of New York and Pennsylvania, said AccuWeather meteorologist Mike Pigott. Residents can expect a fast-moving clipper storm tonight moving across the New York/ Pennsylvania line, delivering about 3 to 6 inches of snow just north of Scranton, he said. The Electric City can expect 2 to 4 inches, he said. While temperatures are forecast to stay in the 30s, Mr. Pigott said it will feel like it is in the 20s. "Right behind this system, it's dragging a good arctic front through tomorrow morning and temperatures will continue to fall," Mr. Pigott said. "By midnight New Year's Eve, you are looking at temperatures in the teens, probably going with something like 14 degrees and quite windy -- 15 to 25 mph with occasional gusts of 30 mph." For New Year's Eve, he said it will feel more like negative three to seven degrees.

I did the beer league at Sno one Thursday last year and I managed to get a bronze. Now, remember, I basically learned how to really ski last year (I don't count my few trips out a decade ago when I was in high school). So, if I can get a bronze, I am SURE you'll do well!!

USASA Boardercross Competition at Bear Creek January 31, 2009
Melissa replied to TT C6's topic in Bear Creek
The boardercross course at Sno was a TON of fun last year. I'd highly recommend this. I hope the course will be open to anyone after the actual event. -
Nice MS Paint skills!

Haha no, I didn't make it up, nor do I have a tan jacket (tan is not me). I'll be up tomorrow though, so if anyone is out, look out for me!
-
Ya, I wear a purple spyder jacket and black pants. I had planned on going up today, but my roads are still not plowed and I don't know if I can get out. Right now I'm doing a bunch of cleaning, and after I knock out a bunch, I'll see if I can dig my car out. Kind of sucks, but at least I'm getting my cleaning done now so I can ski tomorrow. Okay, no one really needed to read all that, sorry!

I bet it is!! It's about 27 degrees here right now.

Took a little walk through Nay Aug Park and snapped a few pics. Enjoy!

Still all snow up here. About 8 inches I'm guessing.
