Ski, how often do you really go out clubbing??
-
Hi Ski! I've actually been to Tinks and Flashbacks--but a long time ago... Once upon a time, while I was still in college, I came to Scranton to celebrate a friend's 21st (she went to the University of Scranton). I actually still have my Flashbacks mug--I wonder if they still have mug night? I've never been to the Woodlands, but everyone tells me it's supposed to be really cool, except for my boss, he always says that it is dangerous. One of the holiday parties that I'll be attending this year will be held at the Woodlands, so I'll be able to check it out for myself!

I drove past out of curiousity today... I saw some snow blown. I assume it's from last night.
-
Damn, Ski, you were up late!
-
Well, I am a bit nervous to see how well I do! I'm really just curious to see how much I've remembered or forgotten! Hopefully skiing is a lot like riding a bike... I'm okay with being not the best skiier though--I just think skiing is fun and I look forward to doing it lots this winter.

Hi Ski! I know we need cold to blow! The forecast for Scranton looks hella cold though! So they need to jump on it! If you check accuweather, the low for every night for the next 15 days is below freezing (and in most cases well below freezing). Keep your fingers crossed...

Here is my opinion, which is just complete speculation. Mid-december is like the 15th, right? Well, if they say "Mid-December" but open earlier, people get excited. If they push for an earlier open date and announce an earlier date, but then have to push the date back, people are disappointed. Thus, I think they are saying mid-december with the hope and plan to open earlier than that--didn't someone on here mention Dec. 10th as a potential opening date? I am figuring around Dec. 10th. (Or that weekend sure would be nice!). Keep your fingers crossed!!
-
I guess I can live with that, though I really really really hope it is the first week of December! Also, does anyone know if the bar there has a frozen margarita machine?

No, why??

Good work!! Do some recon for us and report back!

Word to the wise... if you ever get pulled over, be very respectful and polite to the police officer. Keep your hands on the steering wheel (so it doesn't look like your are grabbing a gun or whatever). If the cop wants to search your car, politely say that your trunk is locked and that you do not consent to a search, and then gently ask him if he has probable cause. Just remember, never never never consent to a search. Even though you think that you don't have anything illegal in your car, you might have forgotten about something or have paraphanalia or something with residue on it. If you do not consent, and something illegal is found, there is a good chance that your motion to suppress the evidence will be granted (and thus charges dropped). If you consent to the search, you will have no argument because you have waived your rights. Final tip: anything the cop can see in "plain view" in your car can be the basis for probable cause, so make sure you don't have anything out in the open (transport illegal stuff in the trunk!). If anyone has any questions about what a cop can or cannot do, post em.

Okay I am so glad I am not the only person to be totally annoyed with Sno's website. On the one hand, I wish they had a really nice professional site (or rather, something that doesn't look like I could have made it in 8th grade desktop publishing). It would be nice for the website to be an information resource instead of a depository of outdated information. On the other hand, I guess the nice website prevents a ton of people from checking out Sno, so to the extent that the crappy website prevents the mountain from being crowded, that is super.

I just now realized my typo in my original post... I have my fingers crossed for an opening before the second week in December... why else would they be making snow now if they didn't want to open early? I think I'll get dinner at the shops at montage as an excuse to check it out.

This was a night Monday morning treat: http://www.snomtn.com/ So, are we still thinking a second week in December opening? If they are blowing now, I kind of think they'd want to open earlier?

Are you interested in staying on the East Coast? What about Mont Tremblant in Quebec? http://www.tremblant.ca/index-e.htm I checked, and they do have ski in/out condos (not hotel rooms), etc. I happen to love Quebec (though I have never been to the resort), and, the elevation is not like out west. Here is an accomodation option: http://www.tremblant.ca/reservations/en/Mo...Sunstar.detail#

No, I did not meet the owner... I probably did see him though. I'll be back over there today getting my picture taken, so I'll be on the lookout for him. Ski, I like the way you think. I've never done NASTAR, but I think that as long as I can get out a bunch in December, I'll be decent enough to not embarass myself. Do you know of any teams looking for their token girl? I will make myself available to the team with the hottest/most successful/most fun guys. Just kidding. Sort of. Seriously, just let me know what I have to do.

I only wish I were mobbed by Scranton's finest (even finest dirt balls). I was there from 4-5 in the bar, and no one talked to me! I can't really complain though, because I didn't randomly go up to people to introduce myself. When I got there with my friend Sarah, we looked at the line, and quickly made the executive decision to not wait in line, and instead just drink free alcohol, and come back another time. Thus, we just went to the bar. It was a good decision, since I had to leave at 5 anyways. So did anyone think that they saw me? I had on a brown jacket and jeans and brown shoes (pretty generic I know). I kept on looking around at people, wondering if I knew any of them from this message board! Alas, since I don't actually know what anyone looks like, I'll never know. Also, re: lack of food. Both Sarah and I thought the lack of food was odd. Isn't it some kind of rule that whenever you provide free alcohol, you have to provide free food too? I remember in school we were never allowed to have an open bar without food...
-
Ohhh good luck with the interview. I am sure I'll see you around there this winter--I've got nothing better to do than ski!
-
Well for whomever ends up stopping by the party, do say hello if you see me! I am really looking forward to meeting some people from around here! P.S. It has been snowing on and off in Scranton today--sooooooo exciting!
