This weekend is Octoberfest... Last chance to get the best price on your Season Pass for this season. Chair lift rides to see Fall Foliage, entertainment in the bar, a bike tour of the area, and craft tents set up with local vendors. AND a New Website! www.elkskier.com....

I saw one work over a dead honey bee last week, he made a nice crunch as I squashed him...

Rarely... New Years Eve a couple of times, 30 or so years ago.

OK, but I won't allow you to ski them...

Got my Letter today.... As previously discussed; new pond for more snow making capacity. New Windows in restaurant. Tree planting continues. Season Pass prices unchanged. (Second year in a row.) Operating hours changed; closing Monday and Tuesday at 4:30pm, and Sunday at 7:30pm to allow for more snowmaking. "Certain weeks" we will continue to be open until 10:00pm.... #ElkaholicRummy....

My uncle, lieutenant Wallace W Furman, was a fighter/bomber pilot in WW11. He island hopped in the Pacific theater until finally in position to fly daily strafing/bombing runs on mainland Japan. One morning briefing, before their daily mission, he and the other pilots that day were ordered to be off the mainland and returning to base at a certain time... No excuses. As he left the mainland to return he felt this enormous shock wave, he turned in his seat and saw the mushroom cloud rising above Hiroshima. Of course he had no idea what it was. Upon his return to base he was told he witnessed history and hopefully an end to the war.

We've been going out West for the past 32 years. We used to be the (almost) first on the mountain, and last off. Now we mosey onto the mountain after a leisurely breakfast, ski a few runs, stop for lunch (accompanied by a bloody), take a few more runs and find a nice spot to watch the scenery walk past, have a beer or two, then go back to the accomodations. Take a shower, have dinner and usually fall asleep in front of the TV... I've learned; "Life is not a Race, It's an Adventure"....

One trail from the top has a consistent pitch equivalent to PA black/double black for about 3000 vertical feet. It is groomed so it was rated a Blue. A big mountain with lots of variety. The history of the resort is cool... the place to Be for the rich and famous movie stars of 40'sand 50's. Warren Miller spent his winters in the parking lots. But....we did get burned by sketchy conditions both times we were there

Your neighbors must be pissed.... "GD Toast is mowing his lawn again, now I gotta mow too...."

Yes, the mellow laid back attitude of the entire scene, is what makes Whitefish so great. Not "in your face " commercialized... A local we rode the bus with was saying this will be his last year buying a pass (his 43rd season).. He's gonna be pissed next year. Totally agree with your sentiment... I hope Whitefish never changes too.

Sorry Sib, I can't remember the trail name. It was on the front side fairly steep and moguled with a smattering of trees. The main problem Big Al encountered was getting his remaining ski released. At 69 years old he's not as supple as he once was... I'll say again, of 35 trips out west, we really had one the best times ever on your mountain and in Whitefish. Just sorry we didn't share a beer together...

At 68 you're thrilled to see them....

The conditions that day were so unusual I thought you guys would be real disappointed. I should have known better. I think your crew has a blast wherever you end up... Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

Thanks but I'm still hoping they'll be open Friday and Saturday. Then we'll spend Sunday closing up TLCITW. I considered a weekday at Blue next week but all my gear is at the cabin... Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

It looks like fresh powder on top of freshly groomed on the web cam. I checked the cam at 3:00 this morning and it was snowing sideways!

Elks' lifts are protected from wind by the many pine trees planted over the years. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

Go Salty... My thoughts are; Elk will groom almost all their trails. Upper Tunk and Chippewa will probably be ungroomed on top of their natural, not seeded, bumps. Skiing will be excellent. You will have uncrowded slopes and uncrowded slow lifts. Enjoy! Enjoy! Unfortunately, our crew will be among the missing this weekend. However, we are planning on spending all next week at our own private resort! And TLCITW!!
