  1. At Elk we can usually get 10 runs in before the lines get too long, around 10:30 on weekends. But, that's ok we'll take another run and be in line for the bar opening at 11:00 ;-) If conditions are really good we'll go back out around 12:15 for a few more runs until the lunch break crowds come back out, about 1:30----- then it's boots off and back to our reserved seats at the bar.
  2. We do a round trip run in about 11 minutes, so depending on the lift, I'll say about 7-8 minutes on average. 3-4 minutes a run. (Give or take a minute)
  3. With Elks lifts he probably finished those 60th b-day runs just after turning 61. Well you had me chuckling, but midweek you can get 5 1/2 runs per hour. So, he theoretically can get his 60 runs in between 8:00 am and 7:00 pm but he does stop into lodge for a beer a couple times throughout the day.
  4. A friend at Elk skis his age on his birthday. Last year he was 60 and skiied 63 runs. He gets on the mountain with the ski patrollers before official opening time and skis until almost 10:00 . Rides the double at lodge and only skis Susquehanna. We think he's a little crazy....

Lost all of my good ones on a cellphone switch. We're going to be there Friday through Tuesday to officially open up for the season. And we have some deck repair planned. I'll get some interiors soon and post. To give you some idea, there are four levels and you climb ships ladders to get from floor to floor. Inside walls completely trimmed in solid mahogany and knotty pine.. a b i t c h to fix frozen pipes. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

No, it was last year about this time. Thanks, on our first sight of it we thought it looked like a big outhouse...tall and skinny, then we chuckled and both agreed "this looks interesting".. and it sure was. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

The man who built it was a young bachelor architect, this was in the late 70's when the big "C" was the thing, we've been told by several locals, that you are absolutely correct!![emoji16][emoji16] Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

Thanks, the TLCITW adds so much to the reason we love Elk. It's been such an amazing experience all these years, and if walls could talk... Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

The cabin was built in 1979, we bought it in 1988. The mugs, with trail maps, are all the places we've skiied over the years.

    17/18 Season Update

Light snow and they started blowing at Elk. Webcam..
  15. PA Dutch too. "Kunsch do mica funga?" (Do you like shoe-fly pie?"
  16. Still there Elsie' s restaurant. Probably the same "decor" too Old Geezer. What brought you through the Valley then?
  17. Oh boy, I thought you were talking about the gun club then I read the other posts......Duh.... Ok, I can get to a McDonald's in 25 - 30 minutes going either ENE or W from VV. Mexican restaurant about 30 minutes in several directions. I think the closest Target store is Reading 55 minutes away. We do have a Redners Market and Top Star convenience store for cigs etc (both close at 10:00 most nights). Restaurants are pretty well non-existent but there's a good Chinese in town, a decent pizza joint or two plus, ....many....church suppers on Saturday nights. ;-)
  18. They have 4 or 5 permanent blue rock traps in front of the club house. A skeet course of about 20 stations built in the surrounding woodland. They also have an archery animal target course in the woods. They sponsor a polar bear plunge every New Years day in the neighboring creek. Free pork and sauerkraut to the participants, following the plunge. They also raise trout fingerlings, provided by the fish commission, which they release into both of the trout streams that run through our Valley. AND sponsor many fund raisers benefiting the youth organizations of The Valley. Plus they make the best fried mackerel (and traditional stuff) breakfast every 2nd Sunday of the month. GSS you're either a Psycho or Psychic.... Want to start a poll? WHEW.....
  19. Bingo!Makes me like VV. You can have all that traffic, etc. We understand it takes 30 minutes to get anywhere from here, but that 30 minutes probably won't include a single traffic light.
  20. Most snow melted overnight, elevation definitely plays a role Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk Just now Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk Yerr kidding right? The local gun club...(I kid you not [emoji16]) Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  21. 579' it started snowing about 1:30, and snowed heavily through 5:00 tapering off gradually ending about 7:30.
  22. Many times I've had wet conditions at the Lenoxville exit to find snow falling at Elk. BTW the grass is white at my home in Western Schuylkill County, about 1 1/2" on the ground.
  23. NO Pics!! ....please
