Snow making is very expensive and Required in PA. Also Elk doesn't get the crowds Blue and the Pocs get. Another reason is "because they can get it".... I think they've realized the price is about maxed out, as they haven't changed their prices in three years. And the draft beer is cheap in the bar.

Good crowd there Saturday, lifts were busy all day. The ride is now $5 (used to be $3). We didn't go over on Sunday, showers and overcast. The leaves were not at their peak. Eli, (of Mark and Eli fame) made the sign. He had about 30 pieces of his art set up for sale. He said "I thought someone would get it.." It's hanging at our cabin, but would have fit in nicely at the half-way house. Probably wouldn't have lasted long before being confiscated though.

Octoberfest purchase Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

The sign's been there for a while....the fence WTF,??, they sure are alienating the regulars who support them.. Management will probably say you can still access the quad, you just can't ski to it anymore. Octoberfest this weekend, I'll probably get some feedback.

No, thought about it again...I was in the 5th grade in the new elementary school, but I was 10. Started ist grade at 5 years old.

Oh yes, granddaughter and I watched as it sped overhead. I waved and said "Hi guys!", she said: "Are there people on it?"... Googled it and there are 6 men in space now. I've always been fascinated by space flight, since watching America's first man in space Alan Shepard Jr. I was ten years old, in third grade, and the whole elementary school watched the take-off on a black and white TV in the cafeteria. I'm Real Old.... How many remember watching the moon landing?

[quote name="JFskiDan" I guess they need something to justify the price of the SP. Not hating on the place, just hating on the price of the SP. Not arguing with you... But it's how you look at it... We say the first run costs us $695 (senior rate) and All the Rest are FREE....

[quote name="enjoralas" post="366530" I just meant from a cost of the trip and breaking it to the wife I'm vacationing without the rest of the family perspective. I've been on 33 week long "stag" trips, men only. My wife now informs me I owe her 8+ months on a tropical island.......

Thanks I'll check out "Ski Tracks" A new phone and I'm missing the snow already..

Getting up there a little too late in the morning....contractor coming to do some roof repair on my house. We'll be skiing on Thursday for sure, Friday morning too probably. Also going to stick around for the Saturday shenanigans... And we gotta hit Chets Place several times.

If you see a bald old fart sitting at the bar having a good time, say hello to a good friend Herm. There's a good chance I'll be there having a beer too. Not skiing tomorrow, but should be drinking....
-
Keep thinking like that, we Elkaholics appreciate that. It keeps the crowds away and we can get our 5+ runs in an hour. That's about 20 uncrowded runs in a morning.

Just called Elks office. Open Wednesday morning through Saturday afternoon. Lifts closing at 4:30 each day.
-
Facebook (Elks official site) says Elk is closed Monday and Tuesday due to rainy forecast. They expect to be open Wednesday, but check before going.

People were sneaking in the trees all day yesterday. It's deep in there. In 35 years of skiing here I never saw conditions like this. The base is unbelievable. A fair sized crowd with three minute lift lines occasionally. Caused because they were only running one of the doubles at the lodge instead of two. Bumps on Tunk were soft. Today is Spring Carnival, hopefully the weather will cooperate

I used to drive my plow from home. It was at least a 2.5 hour drive one-way and tough on the front suspension. So, ten years ago I began taking my John Deere garden tractor up with a 54" snow blower. That became the perfect tool. It fits in the one car garage/wood shed and throws the snow 25' off the driveway. Often times with the plow, I'd end up with no more room to push the snow and with the banks alongside the drive, any drifting snow would quickly fill up the driveway. Last year I made an enclosure with a golf cart rain cover to make the job more comfortable. I made it without telling any of my regular crew about it. Got lot's of chuckles out of that one. Edit to add; I checked Elks present conditions and they are now saying they received 30" of snow.(?). This morning's report said they got 20" in the last 24 hours and yesterdays' report said 15" in last 24 hours. 20 + 15 = 35 right?
-
Elk got 35" in the last 48 hours. Base went from 24"-36" to 56"-65". After spending the last two days plowing, shoveling, and just plain b++ching about the 24" I got in Western Schuylkill County, I'm headed to the Elk Cabin to deal with the conditions there tomorrow. Our driveway is about 400 yards long and downhill across an open field. I'm expecting some 4' drifts. Just getting to the snow blower is going to be an adventure... But skiing this Friday through next Friday will be awesome!
