  1. Oh what did the letter say? Added a building up at maintenance, painted a lift or two, and oh yea, planted some trees....
  2. The discount is a combination of the short season last year and my senior citizen discount. Elks' policy to season pass holders is 100 days of skiing. Last year they were open 69 days, so they issued a 31% credit (in my case -215.45). Props to management, the SP fees were the same this year as last year. We were expecting an increase. My senior citizen discount is $100. $695 vs $795 for regular adult SP. We've owned The Little Cabin In The Woods since 1988. It's 2 miles by road and 1 mile "as the crow flys" from the Elk parking lot. We can see the Delaware trail from our front deck. TLCITW was designed as a yacht and stood up on end. It's four levels traversed by ships ladders from floor to floor, with almost all built in furniture. The exterior is rough cut cedar and the interior is all wood, no dry wall. Two floors are knotty pine and two floors are deep mahogany. It's all built around a central chimney, with fireplaces on two floors and the heating and air conditioning ducts enclosed. Very efficient. Total square footage is about 1200'. It's on 2 acres built in the woods so there is no grass to mow. It's very unique, an original "tiny house". As the saying goes, "if walls could talk"... Hopefully Mother Nature will cooperate for all of us here in the East and out West this year.
  3. A stag trip is men only, in old pharts speak. We always pack a beer and lunch pack and stash it on the mountain first thing. A couple of years ago we were having lunch mid mountain and a group of 30year olds we're doing the same at the neighboring table. We found out they were a group of college friends who were on their 5th year of "men only" get togethers. They didn't call it a Stag Trip....they called it a Dude Trip. That made everyone chuckle and raise a beer.
  4. Retired Sept 1st, I will be spending most everyday at Elk, staying in our little cabin in the woods. Also have our 33rd annual stag trip booked to Telluride in March. Going to be a great year!! Bonus, season pass to Elk at a 31% discount. $499.55 including injury insurance.
  5. So Tuesday is senior citizen day, $25. tickets, and I qualify ;-)
  6. There is no additional charge for the 100 day guarantee. Credit is pro-rated depending on the number of days fewer than 100. There is no cash back, only credit the following season. An insurance policy, on the season pass, can be bought ($19.95 I think) that covers an injury which ends your season, again pro-rated depending on number of open days at the time of injury. The Elk Wagon runs every weekend and holiday for sure. It will also run weekdays if the upper parking lot is full. Season pass holders do not get special parking privileges. A limited number of parking passes are available for purchase for two separate areas, the upper lot and the lodge lot (directly behind the main lodge). There is a waiting list for the lodge lot pass. We call it the "bar pass", and they are highly coveted. On weekends and holidays only parking pass holders are allowed in these lots, you may be able to park in the upper lot if you get there before security is set up, but never in the lodge lot without the pass. Also, handicap skiers can park in the upper lot anytime without needing a pass. Snow-blowing started around midnight New Years Eve and has been continuous.

    This weekend 1/10-1/11

Lots of nice soft bumps on Tunk. All but two trails were open yesterday. And they were blowing them all day. Seneca and Lehigh (natural snow trails) are closed too.
  9. Sorry for the double post..left finger not as functional as right.
  10. Friends staying 1mile from Elk reported 9" and still snowing at 8:00 this morning. I'm missing it..broke my shoulder at Whistler two weeks ago. Aaarrrggghhh. 11. How about starting up a fried chicken thread. .
  12. Where'd that info come from? Not doubting you--good to see. I never saw an opening day discount, probably hit 8 out of the last ten. I (only) paid $760 for my SP

    Eagle Rock?

. For this year they are not open to the public, you can only ski there if you live there, are renting a home there or are a guest in there lodge. Wow, this surprises me. "Only open to the HO etc. not the general public". I live about 50 mins away and would take my "kids" there for a lesson or two during the season, plus the tubing hill just for kicks. Agree 100% on the parking, crowds(?) and grooming.
  14. Beer can be found at distributor just off exit 206 (the Elk exit) at the gas station. Can also be found at the Clifford dist. in Clifford. I 'm sure it's available at others in local area. The deal doesn't start until January, usually first Wed. Sorry about the beer....
  15. They have "Wild Wednesdays"..$20 with college ID, and coupons from (I think) Miller or Coors Lite cases get you a $20 ticket too.
  16. RD, being an old Elk-Aholic, they have the season pass holders hooked on a "quality, high priced spirit". Can't argue with you there. Personally, my fellow Elk Aholics and I have such a great time there the whole season long, that we put up with the annual price increases....as we say, "The first run is reeeeal expensive, but all the rest are free." I've been skiing Elk for 30 yrs and have been a SP holder for about the last 7 yrs, I've seen plenty of changes over the years and even though the changes, like the lifts, are slow, the owner (mainly their friendly, hard-working employees) continues to create a quality skiing experience in a great atmosphere, year after year. And I'd probably buy a SP just for the Weds. when it seems my friends and I are the only ones there, and we are the owners...
  17. Elk built another "pond" 2-3 years ago. It's across the road from the entrance to the village. My complete guess is it's about ten acres and 60' deep near the breast. They've been pumping from there to their other regular ponds the last two seasons. I never heard any talk about your statement "Closed gate, no water. Open gate, water"...maybe that will be the deal they could work out to get the gate open again. I'm sure closing the gate hurt the mountain, I don't think it hurt them substantially. The VP I know, still come to ski..however, they don't spend a lot of money, if any, in the bar or restaurant in protest.
  18. They have an employee party on Sat. Management runs the lift (1), tends the bar, and cook the pizzas. It's done this way to use up the open kegs of beer and the balance of the food. Lift is only open in the morning then the party starts in the restaurant around noon. Just a FYI, on Wed conditions were mid-winter perfect, and they were still blowing snow. Another of the regulars I talked to said, "Greg (Confer, the manager) told me he's undecided about the closing date, He may just close for the Easter weekend, then open again the following week." Soooo, if they make enough $$$ next week and conditions remain decent, they may extend the season into April. My gut feeling is, don't bet on it.
  19. Heard from a manager last Fri, that 3/27 is their 100th day. They have not made a decision whether they will close then or go two more days until Fri 3/29. If they go until Fri, they will definitely close that day as they have scheduled the employee party for Sat 3/30 and will then shut down the lifts for the season and will not open again.

    Elk Mountain Jingle

+1... and it apparently keeps GSS from trying out the place...
  21. President's Day weekend is usually the busiest weekend of the season. Sat worse than Sunday, I've seen 30 min lift lines, including quad lines backed up almost all the way to the parking lot. We usually skip this weekend.
  22. Yo RR -- After you took the snap of the whole mtn, did you take the back way to Chets? Fri night is steak night.
  23. For the last several years, when there is a major melt down or rain storm etc, as happened this week, Elk will groom Tunk to avoid the VW sized icy moguls. This is not unusual for Elk, they will do it several times a year as necessary, then blow fresh snow almost every night to let the skiers build up the moguls again.
  24. Jeez KC get some skis or a board...or maybe spiked tires for one of your bikes... Keep up the good work, I hope the gang can keep Sno an ongoing venture!
