We probably passed each other on the way. I left the bar about 2:10. Back at TLCITW restocked the woodbox and got a fire going. It was too foggy or you would have had a better time.. the snow was sure nice, too bad you couldn't see it... Post a report when you get home.. Lodge is open for booting up and warming up. Masks required everywhere. Inside tables are open for cafeteria food, can't say I saw anybody with picnic lunches..mainly because I hang out at the bar, (which is closed), sitting at the restaurant tables with a drink and some food, again required by CDC rules. There are outside picnic tables at the halfway house and in front of the ski shop. 10-15 total. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

The last time was about 12 years ago and I liked it. Spring skiing, nice trail system and no crowds. It was a Wednesday. I remember thinking this is pretty good... thing is it would take me almost as long to get to Blue as it would to Elk and I already owned TLCITW so what's the point.... I didn't say that... I'm saying you haven't skied Elk in 15 ? or so years, and know nothing about Elk Mountain managements' philosophy of snowmaking or trail opening, their equipment, snow guns, or infrastructure. I've skied Elk for the last 38 years (yea I'm an "olds"). In those years they've built more trails, a terrain park with it's own rope tow. (Low priority. I know) installed miles of water and air pipes so that all their slopes, except Lehigh, are covered. New state of the art air compressors, bigger water pumps, new ponds. New fan guns every year it seems, new fixed fan guns in critical areas. Also fixed position guns line most trails. Elk has the best groomers and people who know how to operate them! The last several years, the groomers were able to restore the snow within one or two days of the wet, warm days we've been having.Their surface is on par with the best grooming I've ever skied out West (30+ trips) Importantly, when Elk opens a trail they let the blown snow piles dry out for 2 or 3 days, then they groom. And have enough snow for Edge to Edge coverage. It takes time to get slopes open using this method. Does Blue do that? I think the main problem is Blue can't afford the time to "do it right" due to the huge crowds they service. "Get them open as quick as we can and we'll worry about the cookies later." So yes Blue always has more trails open quicker, but at what cost to the skiers enjoyment? Yes Elk has slow lifts and you have to ride the Elkwagon..(not this year though with buying your tickets on line). No tree skiing is allowed. But new trees are planted every year, making it more Vermont Like! The lodge, although dated, is always clean. And Elk is not limiting ticket sales either, as far as I know. Midweek is always like a country club, except holiday weeks of course. In 38 years I've skied Elk they've been constantly improving all aspects of the skiing experience on Their Mountain and that's the reason I'm an Elkaholic.... Oh yea... they opened 2 more trails from the top today and guns are blasting.. Steeze.. you've been invited several times to enjoy a day at Elk and have always stubbornly resisted. Let me know when you're coming and I'll buy your lift ticket...maybe you'll find something nice to say about Elk in at least one of your 78k posts..... Rummy... Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

1/6/21. Excellent conditions. Groomed soft packed powder. Overcast so visibility was not the best. Snizzle and no wind. 7 trails open from the top. Chippewa and Seneca ungroomed. Bar is open and caught with a lot of the regulars. Lodge and Bar have occupancy limits. CDC rules, and masks are required everywhere and enforced. 6 person limit in mens bathroom....??.... If purchasing tickets on line you can pick them up in lower parking lot and start your day riding the quad to the top, and skip the Elkwagon ride. Now back at TLCITW in front of the fire, building up the coals for steaks later... Life is Good!! [emoji2] Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

Big Buddy reports about 7"-8" at TLCITW . It took 2 hours to dig out and blow driveway.. Elk report says they groomed all open slopes except Seneca, under the B/C lift.

Drs appointment unfortunately. My Big Buddy will be though, and I'll be skiing Tuesday through Friday.
