  1. OH MYYYYYYY!!!! Stunning, breathtaking, blindingly beautiful. Keep feeding us junkies more crack.............
  2. Great pix!! That's skier's heaven, amigo. You reminded me to pick up new pow straps. T-14 days til Whiteface T-30 days til J-hole I fear for the Pokes, it's fugly.
  3. What you see is what you get, they won't open on a rainy day for a coupla hardcores, they'll salvage what they have going into the weekend. They may do some selective blowing into Prez Day weekend to claim they are "making snow" but it'll be on the greens and a coupla blues, maybe a smidge for the terrain park. That's it, pray for snow!
  4. nice pix and TR, sounds like the west has snow to spare, lol
  5. King of Prussia Ski Club. I posted 4 pics, the bulk of my shots are on the palm Treo, and I can't figure out how to upload an emailed pic to the PASR site. Plus I'm outta disc space, do I create another album or post pics to a community gallery? Computers still frighten and confuse me when I venture beyond my limitations.
  6. Sunday River was a blast. We left at 2PM Friday in the pouring rain as Camelback was shutting down and the PokaNose were goin slushy. After a brutal 12 hour drive thru NJ and NYC traffic the bus got stuck at the base of the Grand Summit Hotel's driveway and a frontloader had to tow us up the hill. The good news was we had fresh pow for Saturday. Saturday was fresh trax central, but most of the lifts were closed due to high winds until about 1PM. That didn't stop us from shredding up some great runs and got us warmed up for more open runs in the afternoon. Snow conditions were sweet, and we had a blast crossing over the mountain to the various peaks, usually blowing off lunch since we loaded up at the breakfast buffet in the AM. Apres ski took us into the heated outdoor pool and hot tub and then off to dinner. Superbowl Sunday nite was spent at the Phoenix, where all of 5 giants fans were dancing on the Pats grave and the whole joint went silent. I took the giants with the points which paid for my trip. BONUS! We got about 3 inches of fresh pow on Sunday nite, which made for a sunny and mild ski day on Monday, took in a mogul clinic, because we never stop learning and improving, and finished off the day ripping up White Heat and Obsession, with a coupla runs thru the woods for some thrills. Woke up Tuesday AM to 5 inches of fresh, and only 2 of 5 of our group made it out. Annie and I carved out some trax on White Cap and Barker, then had to head back for checkout and packing the bus. It was still snowing when we shoved off at 1PM. All in all, Sunday River is pretty cush, ski in/ski out, valet ski check at the door, and an elevator ride to the rooms. Folks are super friendly, decent restaurants and bars, I don't think the town of Bethel has much to offer and its about a 20 minute shuttle ride to town. We spent the whole time on the mountain, there's plenty to do. I started to post a few pix, but apparently ran out of space to post more. I got a bunch of shots on my Palm, but haven't figured out how to access those images for uploads to the site.
  7. Control what? Moving the webcam around? No. But the footage is realtime, if that's what you meant.
  8. Me 3, but I don't think the site offers anything else.
  9. Serious. Comes up on real player.
  10. I connected, it shows what appears to be a coupla jumps. No one is on it. Must be the tubing park, just saw a snowmobile go past, and there's what appearss to be a tubing slide as well. Boring!

    Here's a basis. http://www.skilaw.com/skistatelaw.html#PA you're welcome.

Based on case law and practicing personal injury law for 10 years. If you want to subscribe to Lexis/Nexis, you can research it yourself or try to google case law in PA. The highest standard of care is applied for biz invitees, so there is an affirmative duty to maintain a safe environment and provide for reasonable signage and fencing, etc. By posting out of bounds areas, providing trail info deeming certain areas off limits, and by fencing off areas of access known or should be known by the operator, he protects himself from a suit. There is no comparison to falling down an icy Razor vs. kissing a tree or other immovable object.
  13. Sunday River, but I got a package deal, includes passes. Thanx tho.
  14. How's Hall, Dumont and Wall doing? Are they in the comp? I completely spaced off watching the games. Was that on one of the ESPN channels? Is it over?
  15. If the photo upload worked, I'd post some Iceface pix. Still ain't working. Heading back up there 2/20 -2/25.
  16. A nice crowdless day at Blue. Conditions were decent, and UV rays were tanning the cheeks. Otherwise, nothing remarkable to report. My last ski session before heading to Maine on Friday.

Beginners on a steep trail = Assumption of risk as a defense, as long as the trail is properly marked and maintained. Once you start opening glade terrain, or fail to properly post and prohibit off trail areas, the operator moves into an area of negligence that could overcome the assumption of risk defense. Apparently, the cost/benefit of opening wooded terrain is not worth it for the Elksters.
  18. I tried to create an album and update my personal photo. The uploads keep failing. Anyone having the same problem?
  19. Sorry to hear about the injury. Learning to fall properly isn't emphasized enough, it makes the difference between serious injuries and shaking it off. Hope he's feeling better.

I agree that the backpack issue is a bit over the top at Elk, I usually stuff my pockets and strap on a fanny pack for the flask, camera, chapstick, etc. We ski where we live, and that happens to be PA, so unless we take a lot of long road trips, we make the most of what nature has dealt us around here. I'm glad I can drive an hour and ski, and I'm tracking declining real estate prices to buy a place in the next 2-3 years, this recession will last at least that long. Buy gold.

Snow fall in the past few years has been on a decline, the only thing that saved the season last year was a few patches of cold weather and a late season dump. Otherwise, it was pretty miserable snowwise in the Pokes. Elk has probably considered some of the ideas, and for their own reasons, whether it is the cost of making additional snow, upgrading/buying more equipment, or the relatively small number of skiers/boarders that want to freestyle dodging trees, safety issues, etc., they decided that they don't want to cater to that niche. Hardly a reason to abandon a perfectly nice mountain, imo.

    Helmet

I've got a Gyro Fuse. The difference between the helmets is only known when you put it to the test. Design, material, vents, padding are the main dif. Gyro is a good make.
  23. PS. The ski shop has good sales on short and long sleeve T's with Blue logos on it. I got a long sleeve for 14 and a shortee for 10. Even picked up a cap and a Blue sticker for the car. Moe likes Blue.

I thought Gregg's response was fine. He even threw in a jab at the other operators' terrain, lol. Nicely done. Elk is still family run, it prolly has a good balance sheet and not much debt. Why would they want the additional hassle of peeling wannabees off of tree trunks and fishing them outta creeks? Most agree that they have the best hill in PA, and until they figure out a way to grow mountains (or wait until the end of the next ice age) my only wish is to replace one of the old lifts with a high speed. If you want an amusement park, go to CB or one of the other hills.
  25. I had a good day at Blue, looped Razor and Switchback all day, Challenge was closed and getting groomed for races this weekend. Upper Main Street was closed in the AM, then opened up after lunch. It was a sheet of something.......not quite ice but definitely not snow, lol.
