  1. I'm liking this option....pricewise and distance wise for some preseason. I'm gonna head up Monday for the day.
  2. Lake effect at whiteface now...Shwing! http://www.whiteface.com/mountain/cams.php
  3. Confirmed....beat me to the punch.........definitely a sign.......of what I don't know............
  4. Looks like Gunstock/Cannon are going to go on the list. I justed rented a place in Laconia 12/26-1/2. Family reunion kinda thing.
  5. I'm all quivered out for the foreseeable future. Picked up a pair of used Spatulas for collector value, if there is such a thing. Since they were a groundbreaking design at the time and the artist is sadly demised (McConkey) I thought they might be worth holding on to for a future sale. Any thoughts on whether some skis might fetch a few bux in the distant future?
  6. I'm on the cusp of a road trip. Any PASR's heading up north this weekend?

    SAD

If having a job, going outside and living life = others thinking yer on drugs, you need new friends/family. That said, I'd rather people think I'm on drugs and getting something done than suicidal. Seriously, you need to stop listening to others telling you what's wrong with you and start figuring out what's right for you. Get off the interwebz and go rake some leaves, it's a beautiful day out.
  8. Wake me up when that's an EC forecast.

    SAD

I love fall. It means winter is right around the corner. SAD is manageable with light therapy. Get yer azzes outta bed by 6AM and go for a long hike and absorb some sunlite.
  10. Here's a fun read for next week's potential weather event. WOOT!!! http://www.accuweather.com/blogs/news/story/41646/thanksgiving-week-travel-weath-1.asp
  11. never happened yet. Like I said in an earlier post, those issues are dealt with before I leave a bar to go to sleep. About the only thing I do is find and make a mental note of a 24/hr place nearby just in case. Otherwise, hold it in til the lodge opens. Reminds me of the hike off the mountain on our last camping trip to VT. I'm thankful that nobody had any video running at the time.
  12. You drink for free if you rent a room? I usually have my own beers on hand right after skiing, BYO b-fast and lunch. That justifies a steezy dinner and drinks in the bar.
  13. I had a bunch of errands I was gonna run, but I decided to blow everything off and be a wake n bake postwhore today. Happy hump day!!
  14. I guess that largely depends on where you're parked and state/local laws. My understanding is that if you are on private property (resort lot) yer OK. By the time I'm in the back of my car, I'm done drinking for the nite at the bar, maybe a little swig from the flask before lites out. I would have to admit that drinking alone in a car is less appealing than if you were in a hotel room.
  15. If yer parked in the remote back lot of a resort, the odds of a cop coming thru is almost zero. Especially in a more remote resort where there's only a few cops/sheriff for the area. I can't recall ever seeing a cop at a resort unless he was skiing. I think they generate more revenue pulling over DUI's and out of town speeders. And if they come knocking, I have 2 choices, keep quiet (I'm fully concealed, and maybe he goes away) or in a pinch eat the little bit of stash I might have and then open the door. And I always have a can of Febreze in the car, one downside of car camping can be stanky gear.
  16. I don't think my sleeping bag is big enough for the 2 of us.
  17. Security? My car has an active alarm system. Blazing in an empty car parking lot at midnite is prolly safer than smelling up a hotel room. Comfort? 6" memory foam and a sub zero down bag...and a coupla pillows, plenty of room to stretch out. Entertainment? Iphone, car stereo, nano, portable speakers, I've been known to use resort pools and jacuzzis (Hunter last year), and the game room/bar is open to the public. Free b-fast? it ain't really free, it just feels that way when you rent the room. When's the last time you hooked up with a gal, single or otherwise, on a ski trip? I guess car campers have to settle for hippie chicks or whacky cougars. Gotta aagree on seriously crap motels, the dif between their price and something a little nicer is worth the cost. But even the nicest places can get hit with bedbugs, that's a function of guests, not housekeeping. we always carry foggers in the car, just in case.
  18. I'm not bent outta shape or denfending it. I just really enjoy doing it occasionally to mix things up. It offers a different perspective, I'm comfortable spending time by myself without TV's, computer terminals, etc. The little bit of electronics I bring allows me to check anything of importance to me. And car camping, depending on the vehicle isn't that "core". If yer car camping in a Smart car, maybe that would qualify. Some rigs are basically houses on wheels and then you've got the whole RV thing which isn't even car camping anymore. If anything, camping out makes me appreciate the cushy alternatives that much more. And saving a few bucks is always a good thing no matter how big/small yer stash is. Addit: I can't wait until we can actually discuss weather in a weather thread.
  19. for EC snow and grooming in this month's Ski mag. Blue got in again as well in a few categories, Lifts and park, iirc. Whiteface took second overall for EC skiing behind Tremblant.
